Covenant = Agreement for a common goal
Biblical Covenant has two important components: Law and Love
God is a Covenant God
Case Law
• Employment law regarding the treatment of servants.
• Laws regarding murder, manslaughter, and violent assault.
• Liability laws for one’s animals and responsibility for the animals of others.
• Laws dealing with theft, responsibility, and restitution.
• Laws regarding rape, dowry, and the rights of woman before and after marriage.
• Case law about idolatry, sorcery, and the treatment of disadvantaged people in society.
• Laws about money and property lending as well as equal standing for all before the law.
Three Lessons:
The wisdom of giving and receiving advice from in-laws.
The role of Godly leaders.

Looking Back – Two themes from Exodus 1-15
1 -God is working a plan

Are you ready for an exodus?
Like the Egyptians, have you discovered just how small your kingdom is…just how fragile and frail your gods are? What would it take to step out of your kingdom and into God’s Kingdom? What are you waiting for?
“This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast.” —Exodus 12:14

Who God IS.

So, WHO is God? What is He like?
God told Moses to go to Egypt and with God with him – deliver the Israelites from Egypt. What were the five excuses Moses gives for not wanting to go?
Six Ways Moses Failed in his Leadership: 1. Right Direction – Wrong Emotion. 2. God’s work cannot be accomplished by human strength. 3. Being too concerned about what others think. 4. Try to do God’s work at the wrong time. 5. Trying to cover up our sin. 6. Assuming others will be receptive to change.
Never overestimate the power of the culture, and never underestimate the power of Godly parents.
Four Themes found in Exodus 1-15 1. God sees. God hears. God knows. 2. God always keeps his promises. 3. Deliverance from oppression. 4. Redemption through the sacrifice of another.
Philippians 4:14-23 New International Version 14 Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles. 15 Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; 16 for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need. 17 Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. 18 I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
20 To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Final Greetings 21 Greet all God’s people in Christ Jesus. The brothers and sisters who are with me send greetings. 22 All God’s people here send you greetings, especially those who belong to Caesar’s household.

Christian liberty is the reality that nothing we do determines anything about our standing before God. Salvation is a free gift, given by God’s grace and received through faith in Jesus Christ. It is freedom from sin and its penalty—but also freedom to obey God out of simple love for Him.
The example of Timothy: a selfless man. a reliable man. a faithful man (friend and coworker). a gospel man, focused on the good news of Christ. a man who knew and loved the Lord. a man who knew and loved the Word. —Philippians 2:14-16
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. —Philippians 2:14-16
Where are you in this pursuit of God? Are you actively pursuing Him? Are you finding the joy in the journey?

There is a way of life for Christians…
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel… —Philippians 1:27
Regardless of the type of evangelism, the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit is always the source of personal conviction and the revelation of who Jesus is.

Where are disciples made?
EVERYWHERE.
Some need engaged in faith. Some need evangelized with the faith. Some need established in their faith. Some need equipped to pass along their faith.
Who Makes Disciples? Question – Who is the “them” that Jesus is giving to the disciples?
Disciple of Jesus: A person in active pursuit of thinking, acting and being more like Jesus Christ, including making more disciples that do the same.
How is a disciple made?

What did we sign-up for when we became a Christian? - We signed up to introduce people to Jesus Christ and live together in His Kingdom. - To make new disciples. - To baptize them into Christian community and into a life lived with Father, Son and Holy Spirit. - To teach one another to know and obey all of Jesus’ commands. Why make disciples?
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” —Matthew 28:18–20, NLT
We signed-up to introduce people to Jesus Christ and live together in His Kingdom.
What is your response to the light of the world being born? How do we need to change our hearts and mindset, so that our response is similar to that of the Wisemen and the Shepherd’s?
How does an ongoing crisis affect people differently than an emergency crisis? How can ongoing uncertainty and fear be dangerous?
