Blue panelists Millsy & Pricey discuss Everton falling deeper into a relegation battle, giving their opinions on how likely they believe it is and where it would leave Everton as a club if the worst was to happen. Phil then talks Mo Salah, his contract and what he believes the club should do about the current contract stand-off. As sanctions bite on Roman Abramovic at Chelsea, Everton’s financial connections to fellow oligarch, Alisher Usmanov, are discussed, with the club’s precarious financial situation worrying Ian. Liverpool progressed to the quarter final of the Champions League in midweek, despite losing on the night to Inter Milan. However their two most recent home performances have Terry questioning whether the schedule is beginning to affect the team’s fluency. The show closes with a look ahead to the weekend’s games; Liverpool travel away to Brighton for the early kick off Saturday, whilst Everton face a must win game, hosting Wolves at Goodison on Sunday.

Liverpool host Norwich on Wednesday night, whilst Everton play the lowest ranked team still in the competition; Boreham Wood, away on Thursday. Also getting a brief mention is predictions for the upcoming Premier League games, with Liverpool again at home, in the 5.30pm kick off Saturday to West Ham, whilst Everton travel to Spurs on Monday night.

This week's episode sees reds Terry McGivern and Phil Roberts joined by blues Gary Judge and Andrew Price. First up, the reds reflect on a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, with Terry and Phil discussing their thoughts on the performance aswell as it's implications for the title race. The blues then discuss their latest loss, a 3-2 defeat at Goodison, to Brighton. Team formation, Rafa's team selections and decision making and poor performing players are all covered, with the position of the manager dominating the social media question part of the show too for the blue side. Rounding out the social media questions sees Terry and Phil give their views on Jordan Henderson's recent form and possible areas of weakness in the wider squad. The show is finished with previews for both sides; Liverpool travel to Arsenal in the 1st leg of the League Cup semi-final on Thursday before hosting Shrewsbury in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, whilst Everton travel to Hull on Saturday for a 5.30pm kick off, live on BBC.

Terry, the sole reds representative on this weeks podcast, is optimistic about upcoming season having witnessed another highly fluent and dominant attacking display at Leeds. There were a lot of positives including the performance of Thiago but these were outweighed by the disappointment of losing Harvey Elliot to a devastating, season ending injury. Red panelist Phil sits down with former Liverpool man John Welsh (over Zoom) to discuss John's career, focusing mainly on his time at his boyhood club Liverpool FC. Obsessed with football from an early age John was picked up by Liverpool at 8 years old and if not for the intervention of a scout and good friend, John's dream was nearly cut short before it began. A powerhouse of a midfielder, strong in the tackle and classy on the ball, John soon rose through the ranks, always playing a couple of age groups above. During this fascinating interview John details some of the key moments at the club including captaining the reserves, debuts for the first team, Champions League appearances and his eventual decision to leave under a bit of a cloud, after some cold treatment from Rafa Benitez. John gives great insight into what was happening at the club in what was a pretty successful era and tells us just how good the likes of Steven Gerrard, Alonso, Torres and others were, with some hilarious anecdotes from training ground. Moving on from Liverpool John briefly touches on his successful stints at Hull, Tranmere and Preston, before outlining some of his hopes and plans for the future.
Judgy and Pricey caught up, over zoom, with former Scottish international, Chelsea, Everton and Tranmere winger Pat Nevin. Pat took us through his football career starting with how he came into the game at a young age but was torn in his early years between enjoying his life and progressing his studies alongside football or going Pro. He did, of course, eventually take the plunge and didn't look back. After moving down to London with Chelsea and being voted their player of the year in 1987/88, Pat was eventually signed by Colin Harvey for Everton where he enjoyed 4 seasons under Colin and later under the returning Howard Kendall. Pat talks us through the good and bad times he had at the club, playing with an "exceptionally talented group of players", who, for many reasons, never hit the heights of their predecessors. Pat talks at length about the transition that Colin Harvey has attempting to orchestrate and gives his opinions on where it went wrong. Pat also recalls the incredibly difficult period of the Hillsborough disaster and the "impossible" final which followed it. Pat also opens up on his relationship with the late Howard Kendall and how from day 1, he could tell that Howard "didn't fancy him" as a player. We also hear about the great years that Pat had at Tranmere where Pat felt he played some of his best football. Really interesting chat with an incredibly honest and articulate man!

They share their thoughts on the departing Gini Wijnaldum and weather he leaves a Liverpool legend. Next, the blues, Ian Mills and Gary Judge, start with their victory last week over Wolves where they could see the foundations of how Everton and Ancelotti are trying to approach games. We also have a special report from Goodison on Wednesday, as Millsy was one of the 6.5k who attended. The lads then share their thoughts and frustrations at another dismal performance on the final day against Man City, where the toffees got dismantled 5-0. There was an influx of disgruntled evertonians messaging after the season ended which Millsy and Judgy work their way through. We hear about the call 2 years into his Tranmere career from Howard Kendall, making his dreams come true as he signed for Everton and just what his first impressions where of a young team that included Graeme Sharpe, Neville Southall & Kevin Ratcliffe before watching that eventual dominant 80's side be built with the signings that followed in the next 2 years.
We hear stories about Andy King, Peter Reid and how team bonding was helped by the legendary Chinese restaurant team nights out before we break down just what the start of that mid 80's dominance was, Birmingham, Oxford, Liverpool in the milk cup and of course the FA Cup final in 1984 and his memories of that day. 84-85 is spoken about with great pride and emotion as the lads hang on Degsy's every word from winning at Anfield in October to Everton's 8th league title and first European trophy in May.
The importance of Andy Gray is quickly replaced by his memories of hearing Andy was leaving, and how he felt his replacement Gary Lineker did in the season that followed, which ended in heartbreak and has Degsy tell us of just how that 85-86 season hurt him going into the summer. In the latest episode of across the park podcast, the lads sit down to review what has been a difficult and frustrating few weeks for both sides of the park. Millsy and Judgy start with the disappointing exit in the league cup to United before reviewing the narrow victory and Sheff United and defeat at home to David Moyes’ West Ham which denied them the chance to go second in the table. The frustration is obvious but both blues agree that they have to be pleased with the current position despite this. The lads then move onto matters on the red side of the park where Phil and Gary discuss the poorest league run the reds have seen in the last 2 seasons with 2 draws and a loss. Both reds question the contribution of the front 3 in recent weeks as well as the recent ineffectiveness of Liverpool’s previous imperious full backs; Trent and Robertson. The lads then take a trip down memory lane as the blues recall the signing of James Beattie, 16 years ago and the reds recall the loss of Fernando Torres. Phil and Terry are joined by former Liverpool player, current BBC football analyst and local lad Stephen Warnock to discuss the highs and lows of his career, from start to finish. From breaking into the first team, to scoring in front of the kop and his eventual move away from the reds. It’s no secret that Stephen didn’t see eye to eye with managerial legend Rafa Benitez and Stephen isn’t afraid to give his side of the story and explain why that relationship broke down. Stephen was at the club during a time when Liverpool won the Champions League (although he has a horrendous tale to tell about his experience of that game) and is able to give some amazing behind the scenes insight as to what it was like to be at Liverpool during those years. We also touch on Stephen’s time after Liverpool, where he went on to play probably his best football at Blackburn Rovers before moving to a good Aston Villa side. Stephen progressed to be selected for the 2010 World Cup squad and is able to share what it’s like for the squad to be under that kind of pressure to succeed internationally. Warnock finished his career playing for a number of other clubs, most notably Leeds United and Wigan Athletic. A very interesting story and lots of insight into what has been an impressive footballing career.

The dressing room's reaction to Walter Smith being dismissed and replaced by David Moyes is discussed in depth as well as his pride at becoming the first black club captain in Everton's history. Episode 11 of the 2020/21 season begins with the lads paying tribute to Liverpool legend Ray Clemence, who sadly passed away at the weekend. Since there have been no games played by either club this past week, the lads start the show by addressing the suggestion that the government are considering allowing fans back into stadiums, in some capacity, as early as December. Questions from the listeners on the red side focus around Gini Wijnaldum’s contract situation and wether or not Liverpool should pay big money for Jack Grealish, whilst the blues tackle questions around the absence of Yerry Mina, the future of Marcel Brands and the formation Ancelotti should utilise going forward. The show closes with the lads discussing the up coming fixtures, which see Everton travel to take on a struggling Fulham side in the early kick-off game on Sunday, whilst Liverpool follow on at 7:15pm at home to top of the table Leicester City.
Episode 10 of the 20/21 season opens with reds; Terry and Phil discussing Liverpool’s 5-0 thrashing of Atalanta in the week, taking them to the top of group D in the Champions League with a top drawer performance from new man Diogo Jota, culminating in a hat trick. Focus then turns to the blues who were defeated 3-1 at home by Manchester United, their third defeat in a row after an excellent start to the season. Judgy is particularly disappointed with the first half performance of Allan and also midfield partner, Doucoure, who missed 2 good chances towards the end of the game. The lack lustre performance from the blues saw many of our listeners raising concerns about tempo and individual performances and blue panelist Judgy accepts much of the criticism, but makes sure to insert the caveat that without Richarlison and a fully fit Rodriguez, Everton are severely compromised. Down the M62, Liverpool then took on rivals Manchester City in the late kick-off on Sunday, with the lads believing that a 1-1 draw was probably a fair result in what was a brilliant first half from Liverpool followed by a much improved second half from Manchester City. It's the week of the 237th Merseyside derby and the build up starts here. Millsy and Craig for the blues debate with Gary and Terry for the reds about who will come out on top in one of the most eagerly awaited derbies in recent years. Both sides are in confident moods as the blues believe the new midfielder power along with James Rodriguez form will be too much for the reds and in particular they target Adrian as the weak link. The reds believe Liverpool will simply be too strong for Everton and whilst believing there will be goals both ends, the reds can equally expose Jordan Pickford and point to the return or Jordan Hendrson as a huge factor. Our red panelists Gary and Phil open episode 5 of the 2020/21 season by musing over a week to forget for Liverpudlians. After being dumped out of the League Cup By Arsenal and suffering their heaviest defeat in the league since 1963, Gary and Phil struggle to find any positives. Conversation turns to the a lack of quality in depth behind Alisson before the lads go on to question the application of Joe Gomez, Roberto Firmino and others. The lads agree there are worrying signs in defence but overall they’re not hitting the panic button just yet. The blue half of the show (from 38:40) sees Judgy and returning panellist Craig in high spirits as they recap another brilliant week for the blues in which they progressed to the quarter final of the carabao cup at the expense of West Ham and overcame a spirited Brighton at Goodison to move 3 points clear at the top of the league. Craig highlights the most pleasing attributes of Calvert Lewin’s goalscoring run whilst also purring over the form of James Rodríguez whilst Judgy admits his shock at the continued dominant defensive displays from Michael Keane whilst both lads express their concern in relation to Jordon Pickfords form. This episode sees two of the reds, Phil and Terry, joined by blue panelist Judgy, as the lads cover off what has been a relatively light week for news around both clubs. With only the Charity Shield game being played, Liverpool's loss on penalties, to Arsenal is first up, with the reds discussing a challenging afternoon for Neco Williams, as well as the team selection and the performance. Then talk turns to the blue side, where recent transfer news hinting at deals being as good as done for Napoli's Brazilian midfielder; Allan and also Real Madrid's James Rodriguez, sees Judgy discussing the impact these signings could have and also answering a social media question on his opinion on other possible Everton targets.
The third episode of the short 20/21 pre-season sees Judgy representing the Blues alongside Phil and Terry for the Reds, as we look back over the first friendly games of pre-season, plus the news and rumours surrounding both teams this week. For Liverpool, the standout performances of Naby Keita and Curtis Jones are highlighted, from the 3-0 friendly win against Stuttgart, whilst Phil and Terry ponder over whether Liverpool should have Brewster as part of the plans for the coming season. The rumours of a deal for Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich continue to gather momentum and the reds express their excitement at a possible transfer, following his performance in the Champions League final. Judgy talks through the 3-3 draw with Blackpool which saw the blues crawl out the blocks, going 3-0 down in 11 minutes, before recovering to salvage a draw. Rustiness is blamed for that and Judgy looks to the positives of seeing new signing Nkounkou impress in his cameo, as well as considering the significance of Jon Joe Kenny getting the nod at right back ahead of Seamus Coleman. The move for Allan seems to be very close now and Judgy once again highlights his eagerness to get that deal done to help boost morale and quality amongst the squad. Lastly, there are some social media questions for both sides of the park, including the role of youngster Anthony Gordon in Everton's side, the performance of Bolasie at the weekend and whether the reds would part with Wijnaldum, with one of our listeners adamant that he should not be allowed to leave the club at any cost.

Judgy talks through the qualities that the Brazilian will add to the lacklustre Everton midfield as well as discussing the potential move for long term Everton target Dacoure from relegated Watford. On the red side, Gary is asked how significant the signing of Thiago Alicantara would be for the current Liverpool squad and how much he, as a fan, wants it to happen before the new deal for Neco Williams is covered as well as the statement from Jurgen Klopp that he plans to walk away from Liverpool and potentially Football, at the end of his contract in 2024. There are some juicy social media questions for both sides of the park including further question marks about the role of Marcel Brands at Everton, the “worst flops” that the Blues and Reds can remember and the people that the lads would most relish recording a podcast with. The podcast concludes with Millsy giving his missus a telling off for disrupting the “Zoom” connection and both sides discussing the rumours that Football fans may be able to return as early as October but only with stadiums at 20% capacity.

This latest episode of Across The Park, sees reds Terry and Phil, joined by blues Judgy and Millsy as they discuss the final games of the 2019/20 Premier League season as well as other news and developments at both clubs. First up, the blues give their feelings on the news of Leighton Baines' retirement from football, before the reds then similarly reflect on Adam Lalanna leaving the club and Jordan Henderson receiving the first player award of the season, the Football Writer's Association Player of the Year. Both sides briefly review the final games of the year, Liverpool winning at Newcastle, whilst Everton lost at home to Bournemouth, before the lads tackle some social media questions. Topics include amongst other things; Naby Keita's resurgence, Jordan Pickford's position in this Everton side and also the form of Andre Gomes, as well as recent transfer links, with Liverpool linked to a new central defensive signing and Everton's a possible destination for Napoli midfielder Allan.
Across The Park once again goes Across The Mersey, as we talk to our good friend and huge Tranmere Fan, Matt Jones who reviews the 19/20 Tranmere season. The reds first of all reflect on a disappointing result at Arsenal which meant Liverpool could not reach the milestone 100 points this season, and their pride at the teams performance in a tough game against Chelsea. The premier league celebrations are discussed with both agreeing the club did the best job they could with no fans in attendance and how they celebrated themselves. Millsy discusses Everton's draw against Aston Villa and win at Sheffield Utd and how he believes the switch to 451 seen Everton perform alot better than in recent weeks & if that changes plans for recruitment this summer. The lad's answer some social media questions regarding possible transfers in from relegated teams, Bernard's future and if Liverpool's season could have been even better had a domestic cup run been successful. - We apologise for the sound quality on one of the panellist's (Millsy) microphone. Luke tells us of the pressure's he felt from the start, when his move to Everton at the age of 16 had huge publicity, resulting in a tribunal deciding his fee and how he carried that pressure around in the early stages of his time at the club. We talk about his time on loan at Cheltenham & Colchester before his step up the first team squad, & Luke explains how he found his time under David Moyes and his reaction to Roberto Martinez coming in as his successor. Luke talks in detail about his thoughts on the different styles of both managers and his admiration for how Roberto brought him into the team in 2014-15 and his pride at some of his performances that season. We break down the end of 14-15 when Luke was left out of the squads as contract negotiations unfolded and how frustrated he was at the time, before his decision to sign a 5 year deal and the hope he had to be successful at Everton. Luke also discusses the pro-longed ending of his time at the club, and how an incident with Ronald Koeman was the reality that his days at the club were numbered & his pain at being omitted from the Premier League squad for 17-18. Luke is open and honest about how this affected him mentally and how he re discovered his passion for the game with loans spells at Oxford & Ipswich. On this episode of Across The Park Extra, Judgy & Millsy are honoured to be joined, via zoom, by Everton’s most successful captain, Mr Kevin Ratcliffe in an Everton FC special. We discuss the 80’s as Kevin tells us of his initial struggles to break into what we would become arguably Everton’s best ever side, with the club at one point making him available for transfer. We talk about the turning point, and what Kevin thinks it was in that 1983-94 season that seen the club go from playing in front of low crowds and struggling to going toe to toe with Liverpool in the Milk cup final to eventually lifting the FA Cup in 1984. Kevin explains how things were behind the scenes, both on and off the pitch as he expresses the unique bond that existed between the players of that team and just how good Everton actually were in 1985, overcoming Bayern Munich and Rapid Vienna to capture Everton’s first ever European trophy and of course, clinching the 1985 league title. We get Kevin’s honest opinion on Andy Gray making way for Gary Lineker, the break up of the squad including Howard Kendall leaving for Spain and his honest assessment of why some of the replacements were never going to replicate the success of their predecessors. On this edition of Across The Park extra, Millsy and Judgy are joined via zoom by former WBC Cruiserweight Champion of the world and huge Evertonian, Tony Bellew. Tony has the lads in stitches with tales of growing up as a "rebellious" Evertonian, inspired by his older brother, to memories of the two infamous "great escapes" in 1994 and 1998. Tony also spoke about how he went from being a regular Evertonian, to training at Finch Farm, as part of a special relationship he developed with his beloved club. Tony tells us about the time he first met David Moyes, which almost led to him getting into a fight and how Moyes helped him meet Dave Billows, his fitness coach, who became a huge influence on his career. No punches are pulled in Tony’s opinion on how special David Moyes’ time was at the club, his relationship and love for Bill Kenwright and how he feels the inside of the club changed for the worse during a period of changing managers and personnel.
We ask Tony about "that special night" at Goodison Park when he captured the WBC Cruiserweight title in dramatic fashion against Ilunga Makabu and just how much pressure he felt personally in fighting at the place he loved most. This is a fantastic insight into the real Anthony Bellew. His love for his family, Everton and appreciation of the opportunities he has had through boxing shine through with a side of typical "scouse humour". Tony is a shining example that dreams can come true but he is also humble and honest enough to concede that he has had his fair share of tough moments and this note, the three blues share their own recognition of the significance of mental health in modern society before signing off. On this episode, our reds, Phil and Gary, are joined over zoom by ex Liverpool midfielder and current Blackpool captain Jay Spearing. Jay talks through how he made his way through the ranks to make the first team which included quite a few setback he had to overcome. Jay was in the team at the end of Rafael Benitez’s reign, through Roy Hodgson, King Kenny and the beginning of Brendan Rodgers’ tenure. He’s talks openly and honestly about things that went on during these periods, from the infamous Rafa rant, Roy’s failures and the Suárez/ Evra racism incident were the club decided to wear T-shirts supporting Suárez. He also talks about his feeling during certain milestones in his career from making his debut in a 1-3 victory against PSV, his home debut in the 4-0 victory over Madrid, being promoted to Melwood and the first team and winning a trophy with his boyhood club. This is a brilliant listen for any red. Spearing is a local lad who has lived every young lads dream and it shows just that listening to him.

In the latest episode we have two blues and two reds for the first time since lockdown via zoom! The boys kick of by discussing the return of mainstream Football in the shape of the Bundesliga action. Whether all the lads got to watch all the Football was a mixed bag! The discussion of the German action then moved onto talking about the impact of no crowds on the experience for the viewers with Terry tabling the suggestion from some broadcasters of "computer generated crowd noise", an idea that is actually generally welcomed by the panelists. With talk shifting to the Premier League, the news of positive tests coming back from the first round of testing of players and staff is first on the agenda, Troy Deeney's stance is supported and the boys remain curious to see how the testing results will impact on a potential return date. Judgy introduces the announcement from Everton that fans will be refunded for the remaining games to the forum and the move to offer fans the option to donate the refund to the Community is also commended. The transfer speculation doing the rounds by the lads is covered and the importance of Ancelotti to the blues in both attracting and managing top class players with "egos" (Rabiot etc) is again mentioned. Without much else happening in the football world, a listener question is then tackled as to the best Scouse 11 the lads can come up with. The members have to have played for Liverpool or Everton and be from the city to qualify. The complicated matters of the transfer window, player contracts and Financial Fair Play implications are mused over, before the lads move on to talk about the admirable philosophies and human sides of both Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp. The show closes with Judgy and Phil reviewing some of the silly season transfer rumours going around before giving you a thought provoking insight into one of the themes of next weeks show.
Despite the postponement of the Premier League fixtures the lads still get together to record our weekly episode. We kick off with reviewing Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat at home to Athletico Madrid and subsequent exit from this seasons champions league. There is some disagreement over the main culprits for the defeat with Gary suggesting that the Liverpool forward line is more to blame than the defence and Terry leaping to the defence of the forwards who managed to register 34 shots on goal. Terry is also forced to defend the clubs recruitment in relation to the signing of Adrian, who has ended up suffering a lack of form at the wrong time. The rest of the episode sees the lads exploring the various possibilities in terms of how the season can and will be finished, if at all! There are also a couple of very good questions from listeners including who the lads would pick to represent them if the league had to be settled by with a 3v3 competition.
The latest episode of the podcast is dominated by Chelsea, with both sides of the park having been on the end of a beating from Frank Lampard’s side over the course of the last week. The show kicks off with the reds, Joely and Terry, reviewing the 2-0 defeat in the FA Cup to Chelsea where Klopp unsuccessfully shuffled his pack. The defeat was not too disappointing for the Reds who saw some positives despite them fading to a better side on the night. The reds then reflected on the nervy 2-1 victory at Anfield against Bournemouth. A game in which more questions where raised about the form of the Liverpool and in particular, the contribution of the midfield. The blues then takeover and have to look back at a dreadful performance at Chelsea where they went down 4-0. Judgy described the performance as the worst of the season and both blues went on to heavily criticise individuals as well as the input from the manager. There are a couple of messages from listeners highlighting the performances of Sigurdsson and Davies and the lads are left with more questions than answers after a disappointing couple of weeks for the blues in terms of results. The episode is then rounded off with Reds looking forward to the second leg of their last 16 champions league tie against Atletico Madrid, with Terry feeling optimistic about the chances of turning the 1-0 around but the rest of the lads recognising the qualities that Atletico possess and the difficulties Liverpool may face against them on Wednesday
The latest episode of Across The Park Podcast kicks off by the lads looking back over Liverpool’s first league defeat of the season where they went down 3-0, away to Watford. The negative impact of the winter break is brought up by The Reds but neither Gary or Terry shy away from criticising the exceptionally poor performance and pointing the finger at the likes of Lovren and Trent Alexander Arnold, whilst also praising the performance of Watford. Craig and Judgy then look back at the frustrating draw at home to Manchester United, which ended in bizarre fashion. Both Blues heap praise on the evergreen Leighton Baines, who was outstanding at both ends of the pitch, whilst Calvert- Lewin is once again lauded for his application and continued goalscoring form. Both sides then preview their upcoming games with The Reds looking forwards to their trip to Chelsea in the FA Cup on Tuesday and their home game to Bournemouth on Saturday morning whilst the Blues optimistically look forward to travelling to Chelsea on Sunday at 2pm.
Episode 30 kicks of with a short review of the first leg of Liverpool’s last 16 tie against Atletico Madrid, where a dogged display from Diego Simeone’s side seen them come out on top 1-0, leaving the tie finely poised for the Anfield return. Both Gary and Terry agreed that the result was a fair one but were not too discouraged by the performance itself. Judgy, the lone blue on this episode, then reviews Everton’s 3-2 defeat away to Arsenal but he is quick to jump to the defence of Ancelotti’s team's performance, citing the sides dominance of the second half and spurned chances to get a point. The lads then tackle an interesting challenge from one of the listeners to names their Premier League XI, using only one player from each team, before Terry and Gary review Liverpool’s 3-2 victory against West Ham, in which the reds had to twice come from behind to get the win against David Moyes’ side. The episode is concluded by the lads looking ahead to this weekends fixtures; with Liverpool travelling to Watford at 5.30pm on Saturday and Everton entertaining Manchester United at Goodison on Sunday at 2.00pm.

Liverpool’s return to Madrid is then previewed as the Reds meet Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the last 16 of the Champions league on Tuesday. Judgy and Craig then look forward to Everton’s home game against a resurgent Arsenal on Sunday which gives the blues the chance to close the gap further on the top 6. The episode concludes with the lads previewing Liverpool’s home game against David Moyes’ West Ham on Monday night, before tackling some interesting questions from listeners.
Episode 28 starts with Terry briefly reviewing Liverpool’s victory against Shrewsbury in which the young players once again came out of the game with enormous credit. Judgy and Craig look back over Everton’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, with Richarlison once again taking the credit with another match winning performance and Morgan Schneiderlin coming in for some praise after his recent upturn in form. The focus turns to this weekend as Liverpool travel to Norwich at 5.30 on Saturday with Terry expecting another three points despite the positive performance that Norwich produced at Anfield at the start of the season. There are a couple of interesting questions to conclude the episode including whether Everton should give Liverpool a guard of honour at Goodison, should circumstances dictate this.
Episode 27 sees the lads return to the usual format of one show for the week. The blues kick the show off by reviewing Everton’s terrific come back away at Watford, with the blues two nil down at one point and down to 10 men whilst the game was tied at 2-2. The display leaves Judgy and Craig wondering whether the current displays and resurgence represents the potential of this team or whether we’re seeing a “new manager bounce”. Terry and Gary look back at a “game of two halves” against Southampton as they eventually ran out 4-0 convincing winners after an emphatic second half display. The lads tackle questions about Grealish as a potential summer signing for either side and whether Henderson has the potential to be PFA player of the year before the upcoming weeks games. Liverpool’s young players take the pitch against Shrewsbury tomorrow with the first team away on a winter break. Gary and Terry are looking forward to the game and seeing what the “kids” can produce but both are relaxed about the potential outcome. The blues meanwhile look forward to another Premier league game on Saturday at 12.30 against Crystal Palace with both Judgy and Craig confident that Everton’s good run can continue.

The second instalment of episode 26, sees Terry and Craig discussing the weeks action, which starts with Terry reviewing Liverpool's comfortable 2-0 victory over West Ham on Wednesday night. Attention then turns to the weekend's upcoming games, with Craig discussing the likely team we'll see from Everton as they travel away to a resurgent Watford, before Terry discusses Liverpool's home game against Southampton. The episode is rounded out with a quick chat on the latest transfer window news, with the main story being the news of a potential £85m bid from Barcelona for Everton's Richarlison.
Episode 26 of Across The Park Podcast immediately followed Liverpool's 2-2 draw away to Shrewsbury in FA Cup, with the League 1 side unexpectedly coming from 2 goals behind the force a reply at Anfield. This game, as well as the extraordinary comments from Klopp following the game, are discussed by the lads with Terry defending his stance and Judgy accusing Klopp of arrogance and of "bringing the game into disrepute". Prior to this, the lads review the previous week's midweek games, with Everton throwing away 2 goal lead in the dying minutes of injury time and Liverpool battling to a 2-1 win against Wolves, despite being second best for most of the game. Episode 25 of this season starts with a preview of Everton’s fairly stale 1-1 draw away to West Ham, which was a tale of two set pieces. Liverpool’s massive 2-0 home win against rivals Manchester United is then reviewed, where VAR once again took centre stage and despite his goal, Salah’s form is questioned by Terry. Judgy and Craig look ahead to Everton’s home game against Newcastle, who they play for the second time in a month on Tuesday, whilst the reds travel away to Wolves on Thursday for their own reverse fixture. The Reds also look forward to a trip to Shrewsbury in the FA Cup on Sunday, which will most likely see Liverpool’s youngsters given another opportunity to shine.
Episode 24 of this season is the first “regular” episode of the podcast for 2020 with one game to review and one game to preview for both teams. Judgy is the solo blue on this episode who, with the help of the reds, runs the rule over the laboured 1-0 victory over Brighton at Goodison on Saturday. The reds then look back at their vital and record breaking 1-0 win over Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham, with both Terry and Gary reflecting on the potential negative impact of the rest that their first team players had coming into the game. Episode 23 is naturally dominated by the fall out from the FA Cup Merseyside derby which took place the day before this episode on Sunday. Prior to this game being reviewed, the lads look back at both teams previous games where the blues lost out 2-1 away to Manchester City and Liverpool beat Sheffield United comfortably 2-0. As the lads move onto the derby, Craig and Judgy are still in disbelief at the ease in which Liverpool’s young, second string side beat Everton and berate the misses which gave Liverpool’s young team the initiative. The reds are meanwhile are overjoyed by the way in which their youngsters took to the task in such a pressurised game and are excited by the prospect of their up and coming talents. The episode closes, as always, by previewing this weekends fixtures with both sides playing on Saturday. Everton take on Brighton at home at 3pm and Liverpool travel to Tottenham in the late kick off at 5.30pm.
The last episode of 2019 for the Across The Park podcast is a highly positive one with both sides recording back to back victories over the Christmas period. The Blues are buzzing after Ancelotti’s first two games in charge. A 1-0 win over Burnley at home and a 2-1 victory away at Newcastle has Judgy and Craig heaping praise on several players including Djibril Sidibe, Bernard and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whilst the managers tactical flexibility and experience are already impressing the Blues. The Reds are equally as enthusiastic after their team dismantled nearest challengers Leicester, 4-0 on Boxing Day and battled through a tough game against Wolves at home, with a 1-0 win. Alexander Arnold’s contribution against Leicester has the Reds comparing his rise and attacking output with the great Cafu! Both sides of the park review the year of 2019, by reflecting on their high and low moments, before the lads select their teams of the decade (2010-2019). There are upcoming fixtures for both sides at the beginning of the new year, with Everton travelling to Man City on New Year’s Day at 5.30pm and Liverpool entertaining stubborn but high flying newcomers Sheffield United on 2nd January at 8pm. The reds meanwhile, reflect on the impressive performance from some of their youngsters in the League Cup tie vs Villa, despite losing 5-0. Harvey Elliot, in particular, receiving praise from the lads, who discuss whether we will now see him get more exposure to first team football in the coming months. The episode is capped off by previewing four games between both sides, with Liverpool looking to go 13 points clear as they face Leicester away and Everton looking forward to Carlo Ancelotti’s first game in charge against Burnley on Boxing Day, before Everton travel to Newcastle and Liverpool host Wolves at Anfield.

The reds discuss the midfield again, as well as stewing over the defence, which again looked suspect against Spurs. Both sides have tricky Carabao Cup ties in the week with Everton entertaining Watford on Tuesday and Liverpool hosting Arsenal on Wednesday. On this episode of ATP extra we were delighted to be invited down Everton's training ground; USM Finch Farm, to sit down with Everton legend and current club ambassador; Ian Snodin. As always on the extra shows, we took "Snods" through the timeline of his Everton career, discussing everything from turning down Kenny Dalglish's Liverpool in 1987, to his role in fighting to keep the club in the top flight in that famous match against Wimbledon in 1994. Snods took us behind the scenes as he told us in detail, about the negotiations between Leeds and Everton (and Liverpool) which seen him holding a championship winners medal, just 5 months later. We learned of the celebrations which followed the infamous victory at Norwich in 1987, which ended in Snods being half naked, being assisted home by his Mrs! The episode includes Snods' thoughts on the break up of the 80s side and their replacements, Colin Harvey, Howard Kendall and Mike Walker. Judgy and Millsy were on the edge of their seats as Snods passionately rolled back the years and recalled memories and stories that will have Evertonians in stitches, whilst brimming with pride. The first episode of our new feature, ATP Snapshot, kicks off with one for the Liverpool fans as the lads speak with John Aldridge and Neil Fitzmaurice. The recording took place ahead of an ATP Live event at the Church pub, in the shadow of Anfield, where John was the headline guest and Neil Fitzmaurice was compare for the evening! John talks about what it meant to him, as a scouser, to play for his boyhood club, how proud he is to still get to speak with fans and what he thinks off the current side and where it ranks amongst the great teams of the past. Afterwards we catch up with Neil who gives us his thoughts on John and the great team he played in, as well as giving us an update on his latest TV projects!
In this episode of Across The Park Extra, the 3 blues; Millsy, Judgy & Craig, sit down with Everton legend and fan favourite ‘Super’ Lee Carsley. The lad’s take Lee through the timeline of his Everton career, asking questions on both his own time at the club (2002-2008), as well as the news and rumours which surrounded the club at the time. We start at the beginning, with the pressure of signing on an initial loan, on the same day as David Ginola, into a struggling side, where he quickly seen Walter Smith and Paul Gascoigne, replaced by David Moyes, coinciding with the emergence of Wayne Rooney. We ask Lee how he really felt about his time playing right midfield during the 2002-2003 season, before Lee breaks down the 2003-2004 campaign that ended with a scathing article from the local press questioning the players spirit. This season of course, preceded the famous 2004 summer pre season in USA which was a catalyst for the team to kick on to a 4th place finish in 2005 . We ask all things from mercurial talent Wayne Rooney, Sylvester Stallone, Andy Van Der Meyde, his neighbour Tommy Graveson and the loss of Duncan Ferguson. Lee opens upon his ‘best’ season in an Everton shirt; 2007 – 2008, when he describes European nights against Nuremberg and Fiorentina as nights that will never leave him, before Lee reveals the reason why he eventually quit the blues despite still having the chance to play on. With no games to review, episode 11 kicks off with the lads reviewing some of the performances from the players of both teams, with their respective international teams. Michael Keane and Jordan Pickford's performances for England are assessed, before the blues then comment on Cenk Tosun, and former player Nikola Vlasic, who continues to impress, since leaving the club. For the reds, Gini Wijnaldum's continued goalscoring form for the Netherlands gets the lads thinking on whether it's now time to see him as an attacking midfielder for Liverpool. Firmino also gets a mention, after scoring against Senegal for Brazil. With the Premier League back this weekend, attention then turns to previews of each team's games, with Everton hosting West Ham in the early kick off on Saturday, before Liverpool visit Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Episode 10 of the 2019/20 season is very much an episode of two halves..... The first half is dominated by the blues; Judgy and Craig, who express their frustration and annoyance at the current situation at Everton. The blues review the disappointing 1-0 defeat at Burnley before stewing over Marco Silva’s position and the part Brands has played in the current crisis. The second half of the show is all about the reds; Terry and Gary review the thrilling 4-3 win in the Champions League, against RB Salzburg and the dramatic 2-1 win against Leicester. Whilst both results were positive, they raised some questions about the reds more unsettled defensive line and some positives about unexpected personnel changes.
Episode 9 kicks off with the two blues; Millsy and Judgy, discussing their victory in the Carabao cup followed by the more recent hard fought defeat at home against Man City. Despite the performance being a good one, the result and poor start to the game bring more questions from the fans and panelists about Marco Silva's future. The two reds, Gary and guest panellist Marc, move on to reviewing Liverpool’s two away victories at MK Dons & Sheffield United before previewing the Champions League game on Wednesday, before both sets of fans move on to next weekends fixtures. Liverpool host Leicester in what the lads think will be a difficult game and Everton travel to Turf Moor in what is being dubbed as a "must win" for Marco Silva's team.
Episode 8 of season 2019/20 includes three game reviews and four game previews. The lads look back at Liverpool’s first defeat of the season in the shape of a 2-0 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League. Everton’s poor 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United leaves the blues questioning Silva’s future at the club before the reds review their hard fought victory away Chelsea. This week brings Carabao cup action, as Everton travel to Sheffield Wednesday and Liverpool to MK Dons. Both of those games are previewed, along with Everton’s Saturday evening game against City at Goodison and Liverpool’s Saturday midday trip to Sheffield United.

In a playing Career that took him 9 different clubs in England; Phelan takes us periodically from his debut in 1985, through to last time he laced his boots up in New Zealand. Phelan discusses the what it was like to play for the "crazy gang” which beat one of the best Liverpool teams of all time in the famous 1988 FA Cup win, playing in the 1994 world cup for Ireland and how his record breaking move back to Manchester came about. Most significantly for blues, Phelan talks openly about the highs and lows of his 3 years at Everton where he played alongside the likes of Andrei Kanchelskis, Duncan Ferguson, Dave Watson and Neville Southall and under Managers' Royle, Kendall and Walter Smith. Phelan doesn’t mince his words and is both respectful and honest about his colleagues and former bosses, along with the culture at Everton during this difficult time. This is a brilliant listen for all Football fans about a 5’6 Manchester boy who went from "kicking a ball about", to amassing over 400 appearances in the game across 3 continents, over 34 years. Peter Hooton joins the lads for the fifteenth edition of Across The Park Extra. Peter is the lead vocalist from Liverpool band ‘The Farm’, known for 90's hits such as "Groovy Train" and "Altogether Now". A local lad and a life long red, Peter isn't just a fan, but is also heavily involved in the fan scene at Liverpool. From curating the popular fanzine “The End,” to being a committee member of the "Spirit Of Shankly" fan group, Peter's interest and love for Liverpool runs deep. He’s even written a number of books about the club, most recently; "The Boot Room Boys". In part one of this two part podcast, Peter discusses his experience of supporting Liverpool through the 70’s and 80’s, up until the present day. He touches on the demise of the bootroom, the Hillsborough tragedy, safe standing, the current team, as well as plenty of away day stories. Of course Peter’s experience in the music industry brings another interesting angle to this episode, as we get an insight as to how his career has intertwined with his support of the club. The Farm’s most successful song, “All Together Now” was released by Everton FC for their FA Cup Final appearance in 1995 and Peter details his initial horror at the idea of being Everton's official final song and how this came about. The final episode of pre-season 2019/20 sees the lads start with a round up of the respective pre-season programmes of both clubs, with the blues discussing the two defeats for Everton on the road, to Sevilla and Mainz and the reds expressing their disappointment at a 3-0 loss to Napoli, in what has shaped up to be a pretty underwhelming pre-season programme for both teams. With wins hard to come by over the summer not being helped by absences for Liverpool and Everton, due to international duty, the talk moves onto the transfer window, with an assessment of what each side needs and the possible players who may arrive in the final days of the transfer window. The episode wraps up with a quick look ahead to the final games of pre-season; Liverpool vs Lyon in Switzerland on Wednesday and Everton away to Werder Bremen on Saturday, before Liverpool then play Man City on Sunday at Wembley, in the traditional curtain raiser for the English league season, the Charity Shield.
Episode 50 includes a review of Everton’s narrow victory against Monaco; a game which seen a host of senior players start the game and Everton’s captain Seamus Coleman star and get on the scoresheet. Liverpool took on a strong and experienced Dortmund side in Indiana were they were defeated 3-2. The latest “pre-season” episode of Across The Park includes a review of Liverpool’s friendly victories over Tranmere and Bradford, including a focus on the potential role of Rhian Brewster and Adam Lallana this season. The blues discuss Everton’s 0-0 draw with FC Sion, which included another impressive performance from Nathan Broadhead. The blues are excited by the impending arrival of Fabian Delph from Man City and discuss his potential impact on the team, whilst the reds consider the potential return of Philipe Coutinho, with rumours swirling in recent days about a possible 2 year loan to buy deal.

In a fascinating episode we take a look back at Tony's time in football, from his childhood growing up in the city, supporting Everton in 1980's and his fond memories of the great Everton sides of the period, including discussion of the famous game against Bayern Munich, to his time as an Everton player and latterly, his career now as a coach. During his time at Everton, Tony played under Mike Walker, Joe Royle and Walter Smith, with all three managers getting discussed and Tony talking about his particular sadness on hearing the news of Joe Royle's sacking. A skeleton crew this week with some of the lads absent, sees Gary and Terry for the reds and a solo effort for the blues from Craig, discussing the opening run of fixtures for both sides, as well as picking out some potentially tough runs during the season. With not much happening in the footballing world at the moment, the lads move onto discussing some transfer rumours and other bits and pieces that have been floating around about both clubs, as well as talking about a few other bits and pieces in the football world in general.
This week's show sees both sets of fans reflect on their premier league retained lists, as Everton confirmed Phil Jagielka would be leaving the club, whilst across the park, Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno were released by Liverpool. The lads not only give their thoughts on the news of the players leaving and how it impacts the team and plans now and into the summer, but also take a look back at the memories they have of their time at the clubs. The blues close out the show by tackling the reaction to Ronald Koeman's recent comments, that he thought he was sacked too soon by Everton and whether this a fair assessment or whether the club were justified in releasing him at the time they did.
After Liverpool's historic Champions League final win over Tottenham on Saturday, making it six European Cups, there's nowhere else episode 43 can start but with a discussion of the weekend and the game. With Phil still travelling home from the game, the other reds Terry and Gary start the episode, discussing their experiences in Madrid, their views on the game and the individual performances from the players involved. With very little news of note from Everton during the week, the episode rounds off with a social media section devoted to Everton, with the blues answering recent questions received in from listeners and followers. This includes "the player we most regret selling" and "the most disappointing signing" that the blues can recall. Everton supporters also questioned the future of a number of fringe players, which leads to some interesting debate from the blues.

In a break from the norm, Across The Park goes Across the Mersey and presents a special show for our neighbours, Tranmere Rovers. With Tranmere on the verge of potential back to back promotions and a chance to move into League One, a playoff final date at Wembley against Newport County on Saturday 25th May awaits. The ATP team took the time to have a sit down with CityTalk presenter, author of the book "Back Where We Belong" and lifelong Tranmere fan, Matt Jones, to look back over Tranmere's season and get his view on the promotion push and the drivers of their recent renaissance.

The team was honoured to be invited in to the home of 1 / 3 of the holy trinity and Football legend; Mr Colin Harvey, along with his daughter Mel, who was gracious enough to invite us down on this special day. Harvey goes in depth on his rise to the first team, including how a tennis ball helped him hone his skills growing up, his memories of bunking into Goodison with his Dad as a kid, the famous debut at the San Siro and the magic of the school of science team of the late 60’s. Harvey reveals all the stories from this era, from Harry Catterick facing outrage from the away fans after dropping Alex Young for Joe Royle at Blackpool, heartbreak at being part of the 1967 FA cup losing side, to how the Holy Trinity came to be; with the legendary trio of Kendall, Harvey & Ball. As honest and modest as ever, Harvey describes the highs and lows of his playing career including his breakthrough and how he knew his and Kendall’s Everton playing days were over after Billy Bingham took over from Harry Catterick. Tony reflects on his six eventful years at Liverpool, starting in the A-team under Steve Highway in 1993 and finishing as Gerard Houllier arrived in 1999. Despite not making an appearance for Liverpool, Warner witnessed the development of players such as Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen, whilst training alongside more LFC greats such as Steve McManaman, Ian Rush and John Barnes. Warner shares some entertaining stories including; how he had to try and balance his career as an accountant with his football exploits before signing for Liverpool, how he upset Julian Dicks at Mellwood and how he clashed with Stan Collymore and punched the manager (by accident) just before he was set to make his debut in pre-season. Post-Liverpool, Warner went on to play in an Old Firm derby for Celtic alongside Henrik Larsson and made 221 appearances for Millwall, where he was influential in their rise from Division 3 to the Championship. Everton listeners will also be surprised to learn that Warner had a role in Tim Cahill leaving Millwall for Everton, rather than Charlton! This podcast tells the story of a committed footballer who started from the very bottom, learnt his craft amongst the very best, before going on to carve out an excellent career as a first team keeper.
