The Tarkov community had a lot to say about how Battlestate chose to implement this patch and mode - MTB and Ronal break down their thoughts on the results, the mistakes, and how it is resonating with the current, and new, playerbase(s).

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast - On episode 82:

Raid stories are back. MTBtrigger and Ronal talk about a few of their solo adventures. MTB breaks down a story in the middle of his journey completing the setup task. He is forced to wear a Ushanka hat and a scav vest while only using shotguns and encounters a 2-man squad that is immediately alerted to his presence and they battle in tight quarters with a surprise appearance from an enemy scav. Ronal’s story, while similar in proximity to MTB’s battle, unfolded in a very different way. Ronal witnessed multiple PMCs duking it out and was able to patiently wait for the battle to end when he surprised them, and maybe himself, with two clean headshots to take down the winners of the PMC war.

After the raid stories complete, the pair move on to discuss the new Tarkov map named Ground Zero. They talk about everything from the map’s limitations, player level limits, tasks, and overall layout to what they think Ground Zero’s implementation means from a future game design standpoint. They zero in on how Ground Zero simultaneously helps new and returning players while also creating an interesting new piece of content for experienced players.

As the show wraps, MTBtrigger throws an open ended question out to Ronal and the listeners - If Battlestate brought the level banding concept implemented on Ground Zero to other maps (having a weekend of “banded Customs” for example - breaking up who plays with who - level 1-19, 20-29, 30+) would it breathe new life into some of the gaps that cause players to lose interest? What do you think?

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this episode, MTBtrigger and Ronal begin their conversation about all of the changes in Tarkov since the last time they put significant playtime in a wipe. As they uncover and dissect some of the new systems with Tarkov’s patch 14, the pair settle into a discussion about the “gates” Battlestate is now playing with on maps, crafting, and purchasable items.

Included in this conversation is a deep dive into the flea market and the wild difference between levels 1-14 and 15+. Do you think this is still necessary with all of the other changes to the game battling RMT?

The pair also is experiencing gear fear again for the first time in a while - tune in to see how they conquered it and how they’re feeling about the early wipe experience this time around.

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this episode, MTBtrigger and Ronal walk through an insane Shoreline raid the pair had - Two shooter born in heaven kills plus a Sanitar kill in the same raid (Shoutout to AlphaTube on Twitch, you’ll hear why in the episode).

Following this, MTB and Ronal break down the recent “cheating scandal” that was sparked by content creator g0at and his video exposing the cheating problem in Tarkov. So many things happened in the last two weeks including content creator reactions, content creator retractions, Battlestate responding, Battlestate opening up about recent ban waves…

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this episode, MTBtrigger and Ronal talk about Trigger’s hoarding problem which has caused him to amass four scav junkboxes, a docs case, two holodilniks, and a med case… Do you think this will slow down? Not a chance. In fact, MTB makes a verbal note that he is planning to add two more scav junkboxes to his collection. There is no end in sight to his case collecting.

The pair had significant play time in the first few weeks of the wipe and break down a number of raids, lessons learned, and new patch features they have witnessed in action.

Like most in the early weeks of a wipe, MTB and Ronal have had their fair share of successes and failures so far. They talk about the rollercoaster that is the Woods map, the added challenge of the new difficult scav spawns, and the trouble they seemed to get in while trying to complete the iron sight Mosin quests.

Lots of change in the lives of MTB and Ronal, but all is well, and the stars and schedules have aligned to bring your hosts back to the recording booth.

The pair talks about their thoughts about how this wipe is wrapping up and covers various patch items they are hopeful to see in the next wipe - Streets of Tarkov, breakable walls, new extracts, new ways to exfil, the arena…

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

They’re BACK!

On this episode, MTBTrigger and Ronal talk all about the new wipe and a few of the changes from last wipe that are now having a, somewhat unexpected, impact.

Both Ronal and MTB are level 25 at the time of recording and have been having a ton of fun. They kick the episode off talking about how they have each been adapting and evolving their playstyle. MTB boasts a 17 raid survival streak and Ronal has been getting aggressive in PMC encounters. They break down what they’ve been doing to be successful and how they’re approaching raids and fights in a different way.

After a few raid stories and a strategic talk about point firing, the pair dig into a discussion about operational tasks and how their inclusion is keeping the game fresh and seems to be the answer to the gaps in quest content that was prevalent in previous wipes. Additionally, they talk about how having “random” things to do every few days can really break up the progression grind OR give you the little boost you need to unlock that next trader reputation level.

Flea market changes, or exclusions, also get a good look because Ronal and MTB both believe the changes are extending the early game and “fair fight” feeling. Do you agree? Do you like the changes to the flea market?

The conversation is rounded out with some quick mentions of the systems that are creating meaningful raid moments and interesting decisions - notably the injector case and the trade for a scav junkbox from Therapist loyalty level 1.

All this and more inside the episode - good luck out there!

MTBtrigger and Ronal are starting a New World Podcast!

It has been a while since the podcasting pair has played a new game the both wanted to dig in to. The last time it happened was Escape From Tarkov, but the new MMO, New World, is just around the corner that has MTB and Ronal excited to dig in.

On this episode, MTB and Ronal talk about the various systems they experienced during the two betas they played in. While only experiencing the early game, in both of their cases it led to them wanting more and being excited for the games release.

The episode wraps with a discussion, from each of their viewpoints, about the most exciting features of New World and the opportunities and things they’d like to see developed in the future.

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this episode, MTBtrigger and Ronal dive into the recent podcasts Nikita has been featured on. Nikita recently gave significant insight regarding the future and near future changes coming to Tarkov. Make sure to visit a friend of the show’s website to get the latest Tarkov news:

https://www.tarkovnews.com/blog

https://www.tarkovnews.com/blog/nikita-talks-tarkov-with-bsg-emissaries

Some of these changes are already starting to roll out in game - dynamic loot, for example. After explaining how dynamic loot works, MTB and Ronal talk about the various ways dynamic loot could affect the game in the short and long term and the balancing challenges Battlestate might face as a result.

Another subtle mention by Nikita is the future addition of Dynamic Daily Quests. This may sound or seem, on the surface, like a typical addition to any MMO or MMO-like game, but the inclusion of the word Dynamic caused MTB to think about the opportunities BSG has to make this system unique. Quests could be given dynamically based on playstyle, current active quests, level, etc. If done correctly, the daily quests could also incentivize players to try new styles, explore new areas, or play on maps they don’t consider playing on currently.

Lastly, during the final impromptu raid story, MTBtrigger and Ronal talk about how all of the various systems in Escape from Tarkov and their detail and depth lead to incredible “Raid Stories” and memories being associated with this game. The final conversation may cause you to remember some raids you’d otherwise forget… maybe you want to forget, but MTB and Ronal won’t let you.

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

In this episode, MTBtrigger and Ronal talk about targeting a level or objective and the strategy and mindset they use to reach their goals.

This conversation leads to an in-depth discussion on when the pair queues in to raids and what types of decisions are made before loading into a raid - what is the weather, what time will I be loading into the map, should I run a scav raid to optimize when I load in, and many more.

Ronal stunned MTBTrigger with his progress over the last week. Specifically his progress during night raids. The combination of the Shoreline event - Reshala and Sanitar both active on 100% of Shoreline raids and in the same area - and night vision questing led to a deep dive on how to utilize night vision and shines a light (haha) on a “game mode” that MTBtrigger only utilizes for tasks that require it.

How often do you run night raids while questing?

Are there more risks when running night raids or is the relatively lower scav danger worth it?

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

In this episode, MTBtrigger and Ronal take a dive deep into Scav Karma.

After opening the show by talking about their current favorite weapons - anything found on a scav - the pair dive into the new-this-wipe system, Scav Karma.

While there appear to be some shortcomings in the implementation, namely the flagging system for a hostile player scav and the perceived lack of danger while scaving in now, the pair has an optimistic view on what the system could become.

Is the Scav Karma system complete?

Should it be modified to keep the hardcore feeling in raids, regardless of playing as a PMC or Scav?

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

The deep dive you all thought was coming last week. Flea Market and the new level 20 requirement.

You may be surprised to hear the opinions of MTBtrigger and Ronal on this episode. They cover everything from the entire history of the Flea Market to how the (possibly unintended) changes to progression are being affected by the RNG in Tarkov.

What problem is Battlestate trying to fix with this change?

Does the change help high or low playtime players more?

Many suggestions and thoughts to how the system could be modified or improved are given, but the episode is rounded out by Ronal and MTB’s opinions on systems that other games use to solve the perceived problems BSG is tackling.

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

Patch 12.11 is here! MTBtrigger and Ronal break down everything they’ve seen so far in the patch and what you can expect to see when you dive into some raids.

MTB talks about his first encounter with the new raid boss on Factory - Tagilla, as well as the new expansion and additional areas that were added to the Factory map.

The hosts talk about their feelings regarding the flea market now requiring a player to reach level 20 on their PMC to access it and what that could mean for the early, mid, and end of wipe scenarios.

Lastly, Ronal and MTB share their tips for starting out this wipe with a focus on surviving more, shaking the rust off, and getting the jump on enemy PMCs in pvp.

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal answer the question posed at the end of episode 71: "What do we want to see in the game for Beta to be officially over?"

The hosts get into a great conversation about the Flea Market, Bots, Achievements, Open World Concepts, and Persistent vs Non-Persistent PMC's.

To wrap the episode up, MTB talks about an exciting new project where he is documenting each task in Tarkov, one at a time… so we named it… One Task at a Time.

Look for a guide series in the future to show off many different strategies for completing each task. Be sure to check in at twitch.tv/mtbtrigger and catch it live.

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal talk about what it means to be in beta. They discuss what parts of the game are ‘release ready’ and which parts they believe still need some work.

Additionally, the pair discuss what it could look like to add gating mechanics into the game, namely level bracketing to pair similarly leveled (not skill based) characters in maps together.

Do you think this would work?

What do you think Tarkov needs to finish or add to the game to be 1.0 release ready?

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal take a deep dive into a random thought regarding game design and its effect on how long, or if, you play.

It started with a thought during hideout keeping by MTBtrigger regarding his goals being met and not having many reasons right now to log in. He goes on to explain that in a seasonal model this can happen, and in many other games it is expected.

Ronal adds in his perspective but also brings the conversation back to game design and ways Battlestate could further design the game or add to it to combat this or even give large segments of players other things to do, even if it means less rewards and less risk.

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal talk about the recent Bitcoin Changes and Ronal’s video discussing the changes.

A popular sentiment in the Tarkov community is that ‘Battlestate Hates Casual Players’ which Ronal and MTB talk about and lean more towards the ‘Battlestate doesn’t UNDERSTAND casual players’ and why they think this might be the case.

After breaking down why changes get made, from a game design standpoint, in the middle of a ‘season’ Ronal and MTB discuss the reactionary development decisions and how they may be in opposition to the long term game design philosophy of making Escape From Tarkov persistent.

Lastly, the pair cover the analysis of adding in hours played per week to the stash value survey results covered last week. There are some very interesting spikes in the data, but using these two data sets leads to more questions and excitement for future data reveals.

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this episode Ronal killed MTB

He’s not salty about it.

He most likely won’t write the description to let everyone know Ronal shot him in the head while duoing on Factory.

And the beginning of the episode probably doesn’t start with MTB calling Ronal out about it.

After laughing and reminiscing about Factory and the teamkill - which was hilarious - The pair break down patch 12.10 and their brief experience with it the day after release.

On this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal continue their adventures on the Interchange map.

MTB talks about maxing his endurance skill and how that effected his recent runs to the Ultra Medical locked room on interchange.

Ronal breaks down his Scav hunting on Interchange which resulted in him mastering the parking garage.

After discussing these topics, the hosts break down some of the high tier loot areas they have been working on. Namely, Ultra Medical, Kiba, and Emercom.

Lastly, the pair discuss what the first 10 minutes of a typical interchange map looks, feels, and sounds like while taking the time to break down different strategic options based on what you see and hear on the map.

On this episode Ronal and MTBtrigger dig into their most recent advice from Episode 60 - how to get over exploration fear. They put this into practice on the Woods map… one that they both have admittedly avoided (outside of tasks).

This one is filled with raid stories on Woods and some realizations about the old version of Woods that the hosts weren’t even aware they held until they began talking about ‘old woods’

They wrap the episode up with their best tips for the woods map

In this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal discuss a concept that seems to be a barrier to progression after getting over gear fear - they define it as Exploration Fear.

After spending a few weeks grinding out the 'end game' tasks and working on learning customs, the pair talk about how tackled learning new parts of the map and what was creating problems. MTB points towards only using familiar routes and this led to a sort of comfort on maps like customs where having a safe play meant doing that every time he was on the map.

The concept of exploration fear also resonated with Ronal and he speaks to how it prevented him from really learning interchange until he decided to just run to the middle of the mall and figure it out.

On this week’s episode Ronal and MTBtrigger go through the recent Reddit post from Nikita about the recent updates to Tarkov as well as what we can expect in the near future ror the 12.10 release.

Lag/Desync and backend improvements, 40k cheaters banned, crafting changes, ergonomic changes, and many more ‘minor changes’ are discussed.

Ronal shares his recent Customs PMC success story.

Also discussed is the language used by Nikita surrounding the Dynamic Events and First Storyline Quest. While these seem like relatively common gaming phrases they could be very telling of what is coming soon to Escape From Tarkov.

Lastly, the topic many players discuss, but we rarely hear from the devs regarding - Scav Karma - was also mentioned.

LEDX. To some a point of frustration, to others a source of fun, and this week the LEDX is the cause of much conversation. A craft was added to the hideout to make a LEDX thus removing the (potential) need to find one in raid for the Therapist task which results in a Thicc Item Case reward.

MTBtrigger and Ronal break down the different view points on this particular addition to the game as well as some of the other ‘high-tier’ additions to the game, including the graphics card craft that was added during the last wipe.

Rewards, recognition, achievement, feat of strength… regardless of what you call it, there are tasks, kills, and items that conjure these words and in some cases you get something to show for it. Some just allow you to progress faster than other players. Ultimately, there is a ‘hard’ way to do things and BSG adding additional paths to achieve them doesn’t take anything away from players that complete the hard method.

Would an achievement tracker, visible to others perhaps, add something to Tarkov that it is currently missing?

All this and more inside the episode.

Woods expansion AND a fresh wipe. So much to cover.

Your hosts, Ronal and MTBtrigger, talk about how this wipe feels ‘different’ and why that might be.

They also go over the strategies they are using to combat these differences and talk about what has helped them so far in this new wipe.

Additionally, they talk about many tips throughout the episode - some planned, some not - that are focused on the early-wipe PMC runs. How to manage your stash until you unlock the flea market? What types of items should I hold on to? Are there items or cases I should spend my currency on?

52 weeks. The anniversary show. Wow.

On this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal talk about some of the ‘early shows’ and how it is, now, a little bit painful to look back on them.

After a brief cringe and nostalgic look-back session, the pair move on to discuss a recent Shoreline raid that left MTB watching Ronal finish a very successful task heavy raid, while pondering his own poor decision making (in his words) about the PVP encounter.

Following the raid discussion they move into their favorite tips - not ‘top 10 keybind tips’ but overall tips for the early, mid, and late game of Tarkov with a focus on items ‘I wish I knew’ and overall strategy for those seasons in the game.

Thank you so much for watching. Thank you so much for listening. Big things for the Exfil in 2021 - see you there!

WOW!

The entire Tarkov community was surprised by the wipe announcement today! On 12/23/2020 BSG released, via forum post, that on 12/24/2020 the 12.9 patch will be deployed and there will be a wipe with the patch.

MTBtrigger and Ronal go over the patch and give their thoughts about which parts of the patch will cause the most change to the game, what they’re excited to do in the (very short) pre-wipe event, and what their plan is to start the new wipe tomorrow!

Goodluck in the new wipe, let us know what you think about the Woods expansion and how starting fresh is going!

On this episode, MTBtrigger and Ronal start with a typical ‘how was your week in tarkov’ session that ultimately led to a complete 180 and deep dive into one of Ronal’s raids.

Why?

Ronal went inside the Shoreline Resort. Yes. Inside. MTB asked to make sure he heard correctly!

Jokes aside, the hosts explored Ronal’s approach to learning a new section of a map that he largely has mastered. The unique part is the resort plays differently than the entire rest of the map so they dissected the strategy ahead of time, how it went, and what Ronal is still working on inside the resort.

Also discussed is what gear and utility Ronal took with him on the raids and why he chose those particular load outs.

After the resort discussion, the hosts revisited a topic that DottyHack brought up on the previous episode - Loot availability and loot scarcity and how delicate the balance is for ‘good game design’ between different play times and playstyles.

Would truly dynamic loot work well? What about treasure class, as seen in the Diablo franchise?

Let us know what you think about Dynamic loot and whether or not it would help or hurt the current ‘meta’.

Dottyhack joins hosts MTBtrigger and Ronal for his second appearance on The Exfil.

In this episode they jump straight into Tarkov - What is the state of Tarkov?

The crew talks about Late Spawns and how much the new fix to that problem has changed load times as well as the effect it had on Pestily’s Punisher Challenge.

Dotty talks about why he loves metal music and the large Tarkov maps - Customs, Interchange, etc.

The bulk of the discussion centers around Dynamic Loot, Loot Availability, and Loot Scarcity. While the flea market played a role in this discussion it was largely focused on how it would affect the ‘power struggle’ between veteran players and new as well as high play time versus low play time.

Lastly, everyone talks about the next update or feature they are most excited about.

On this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal talk about one of the most successful nights of Tarkov that they have had while playing duos together. Shoreline and, surprisingly, Woods were both very good to them with regards to kills and loot.

After talking about their weeks in Tarkov, MTB talks about trying to qualify for Pestily’s Punisher tournament (to qualify you have to kill as many PMCs in one hour on Factory as possible).

MTB was able to get 23 kills, without a ton of preparing, on a goal of 30 so he and Ronal talk through what went well, what to change, and how to get that number closer to 30.

Included is a conversation about what gear, guns, ammo, and utility MTB was taking into each raid. This led to a fascinating discussion about long barrel vs. short barrel and a few scenarios, both long and short range, that MTB ran into during his hour-long trial.

On this episode MTBTrigger and Ronal go in-depth on the raids from the prior week and then jump back into Woods.

Notably, MTB completed his ‘The Guide’ task that he was one raid away from completing on the previous episode. The final raid, on Interchange, was not a walk in the park, though.

Railway spawn was his least desirable choice for surviving on Interchange. When he, and Jmac, spawned there it created a challenging decision: which direction were they going to head to get to Emercom Exfil? Ultimately, they went to the power plant first and fought with a 2-man team, but ultimately had to disengage and go back through the parking lot.

At the end of the parking area they encountered a sniper in the OLI tower which caused them to make another challenging decision: Do they engage? Or do they sneak around?

After this, Ronal talks about his success learning new routes on Shoreline and MTB relates this to his last few days of trying to figure out how to be successful on Woods by using a similar strategy for learning routes.

On this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal head into Woods.

The episode kicks off with a Ronal raid story and a 1 vs. 3 pvp encounter followed by an analysis of what went well and what didn’t go so well.

One of the most interesting things about this conversation was the mention of mouse sensitivity. The hosts dig into this and talk about how easy it is to ‘set it and forget it’ but Ronal has been experimenting with lower sensitivity with some very good results.

MTB, at the time of the podcast, is experiencing the worst ‘unable to play’ moment in his Tarkov career because earlier in the day he completed all of the maps except for Interchange on the first attempt for the task ‘the guide’.

This leads to the conversation about Woods. Why is it so hard at the end of a wipe? What tactics will work on Woods? Are there open-area tactics that are useful on other maps that can be transferred to Woods?

What do you do in the mid-wipe and late-wipe to survive on Woods?

All this and more in the episode!

It is story time this week on the Exfil. MTBtrigger and Ronal break down a few great raids (and a few bad) because they actually had time to sit down and get a string of raids in together!

The feedback from last week was amazing, it was great to get additional strategies and more ‘money making’ opportunities! Thanks everyone who joined the conversation on YouTube and in Discord.

MTB kicks off the show talking about a 2nd hand story told about community member Reny by Tonypiff - who now refers to him as detective Reny. Tony watched, through a discord stream, as Reny shot an enemy scav, while scaving himself, and tracked the heavy bleed from the Pier on Shoreline all the way to Road to Customs exfil and found the dead body just outside of the exit.

This story caused MTB to rethink his original thoughts about Heavy Bleeds and what they add to the game and ultimately influenced the episode into becoming story-based.

Ronal goes on to share a a few success stories on Shoreline followed by some SUPER unfortunate events. Great lessons to be learned, some heart break, and some task completion.

While there wasn’t a specific strategy session, topics covered include: When things go wrong, success and false confidence, how to get better in tarkov squads, and communication.

All this and more in the episode!

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal revisit the feedback and conversations around making money in Tarkov. Whether by DM, discord, or MTB’s stream, there was a tremendous amount of strategy talked about as it relates to making currency.

Some of the topics were worth a second glance - like how to sell directly to the flea market from a case. Additionally, some of the topics that were mentioned deserved some further detail.

Flea market tips, how to use the traders more effectively (at all levels), and how settings goals can help you determine the amount of currency you need.

While we tried to keep the focus OFF homerun loot runs recently, MTB tells his recent story about how he stumbled into Killa and was able to 1-shot him with a TOZ. The aftermath of an apparent battle with a level 67 PMC who was also dead nearby.

This leads into the discussion of playstyles and goal setting, but on a deeper level. The hosts dive into the challenging topic of ‘getting better at Tarkov skills’ as they relate to your in game goals - specifically, how having a subjective, to you, amount of currency can allow you to not have gear fear when trying out new tactics or playstyles.

PC giveaway - ends 10/31/2020

https://twitter.com/mtbtrigger/status/1311732665368940544?s=20

This episode is ALL about making money - Ronal’s favorite topic.

Many of these topics have been discussed in short form during previous episodes of the podcast, but recently there have been a number of new players to the game asking about how to earn currency.

The exact item trades, barters, or in-game methods may change over time as Tarkov evolves, but the key concepts discussed should stay up to date for some time.

MTBtrigger and Ronal talk about their top 5 tips for making money in tarkov. These are the key concepts.

After going over the high level strategy both of the hosts talk about their individual strategies for making money.

Do you make money the same way? Do you have a strategy to add? MTB talks about this being a conversation starter and not a ‘meta’ or ‘best-in-class’ strategy - these money making strategies are simply the ways Ronal and MTB go about earning currency in Escape From Tarkov.

How to use barters to make money, what you can do, even at level 1, to make money, time efficiency vs. money earned, and many more in the episode!

On this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal went back to shoreline and had another set of excellent PVP stories and the lessons learned from them.

The first situation was on the north side of the street near the pier. After a significant amount of time was spent near the resort, Ronal and MTB moved towards the pier, for task purposes, and MTB was killed by a suppressed sniper. Ronal breaks down his decision process for choosing to engage with an enemy shooting from an unknown position.

Next, the hosts talk about their frustrations when a PVP battle on the south side of the resort didn’t go their way. Both hosts left this fight having made mistakes and immediately realizing them after the battle. Interestingly, after logging out post-raid and then talking the next day, both Ronal and MTB were excited to jump back in the game even after a frustrating end.

Many strategic topics are covered throughout these two encounters: When to play for a stalemate (using insurance to your advantage), positioning squad members to their strengths, trigger discipline, and sticking to a plan.

Lastly, the hosts talk about their picks for the best features and updates from the recent 12.8 patch.

On this episode MTBtrigger and Ronal walk through a recent 45 minute Shoreline raid they did together.

There are quite a few lessons learned during this raid, but it was filled with just about everything - early PVP, multiple task objectives complete, high tier loot, and an encounter with another thicc boi duo.

Surviving and having a successful exfil has been our main focus for ‘getting better’ for the past 41 episodes. This raid highlights one of the critical decision points that every player will face - when should I leave.

There are multiple decision points that are discussed and analyzed - would you have left the raid at any of these stages? Or would you have suffered the same fate as MTB and Ronal?

Lastly, the hosts take on the subject of risk vs. reward vs. fun. How has the FIR change affected the perception of rewards for tasking?

Is the endgame of Tarkov truly defined by the player?

Lots going on outside of Tarkov this week - simply put we have tons of new updates for Discord (those are live now) AND we launched the giveaway we talked about last week on our other XP Media podcast - Winner Winner. If you want to enter to win an awesome PC check the link below!

You can find the giveaway at this link - https://twitter.com/mtbtrigger/status/1311732665368940544?s=20

On the Tarkov front, MTBtrigger and Ronal try to tackle a question that leads into a 40 minute discussion about players and games - What does hardcore mean?

Can players and games be hardcore independently? Would old games be considered ‘hardcore’ compared to their updated versions?

What is Battlestate’s definition of Hardcore?

These are all questions that may not have a definite answer, but there is quite a bit of conversation in the Tarkov community about making the game more or less hardcore. The changes that were unannounced previous to the 12.8 preliminary patch had us thinking through this lens. Do the changes coming to the game make the game more or less hardcore? Who do these changes help the most?

Notable additions that were not discussed in the 12.8 roundup episode - New skills, new voices, new lobby screen to see partners, new weapon mod slot indicator, buyout change on the flea market, generator warning on game exit, changes to bullet chambering, TAB to view stash while out of raid, Healing treatment from Therapist free until level 5.

All of this and more inside the episode!

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

We welcome Geekseh back for his 4th appearance!

Geekseh moved into his new house and gives his life update and his new found love for Home Depot.

Some interesting news came out of the recent Russian podcast and your hosts, MTBtrigger and Ronal, talk with Geekseh about some of the things they found most interesting there - notably dynamic loot and how Battlestate is responding to cheaters.

This leads into a conversation about the player base and specifically about how some of the recent reddit and twitter conversation has sparked conversation, and unfortunately, some frustration in various communities.

The theme of Tarkov History, where the game came from, how far it has developed, continues to creep into (seemingly) every conversation. Geekseh and the hosts do their best to dissect this and figure out whether or not the history of Tarkov, or the vision of the future, should affect the way changes are made to the game now or how the player base feels about it.

Flea market. The flea market is the most recent target of playerbase polarization. What do you think? Should it be removed? Who benefits from that?

The episode is rounded out by a discussion about what dynamic loot could do to potentially improve the fun factor for all players and the hosts and Geekseh talk about what they are most excited about from the Russian podcast.

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this week’s episode MTBtrigger and Ronal continue the cereal debate and talk about their favorite food to eat while playing Tarkov. Is there really a bad choice?

Lots of new youtube content on youtube.com/xpmedianow including optimizing your computer and a video you should watch if you’re considering an nVidia RTX 3000 series purchase - https://youtu.be/MnqVsaXjTfg

After spending a few weeks talking about PVE one thing kept coming up and it was the idea that development of PVE would make the conversation about PVE vs. PVP. Ronal and MTB took this concept and talked about ways it could be avoided and ultimately how PVE and PVP could be complimentary.

Do you think adding in a fully fleshed out PVE system would harm PVP?

Is it ok to teach players how to play a hardcore game? Does that take anything away from veteran players?

After wrapping up the PVE conversation, MTB and Ronal spend almost an hour on talking about winning 1v1 battles. This is a continuation of the choke points concept that MTB talked about on episode 36.

MTB breaks down a simple concept of offense and defense and how that creates a natural choke point based on play style and player preference before the ‘match’ even starts. He illustrates this by talking through how the concept applies in other games and then how it applies in Tarkov.

Following this break down, Ronal presents a pvp scenario he was recently in on shoreline and how he was able to take a fight to a stalemate until he found favorable terrain to continue the battle on and ultimately won the fight with a well timed flank. MTB then breaks this scenario down from the attacking point of view and the defender’s point of view using the choke point concept.

If you have a choice do you play aggressively or defensively in a pvp scenario?

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this week’s episode MTBtrigger and Ronal talk about where their gamer tags come from. How MTB was mistaken for a gang, custom t-shirts, and a glimpse into the counter-strike heavy past. Ronal also adds to the nostalgia ride when talking about the origin of past gamer tags. ICQ, AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Random name generators, Xbox, they take quite the journey.

After the journey into names past and various chat programs the hosts talk about some recent experiences related to the ‘queue at the same time’ tactic that is utilized for 10 man labs. In this specific instance MTB details a conversation where three individuals were frustrated completing the task and decided to queue at the same time (while not teamed up) and let the other shoot at long distance to complete the task.

Do you think this should be allowed?

Most MMOs and seasonal games end up in a similar position - players find the most effective way to complete objectives. Does BSG need to respond?

The episode is rounded out by MTB and Ronal going back and forth about the effects this could have on the future of PVP and PVE systems in Tarkov.

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this week’s episode we break down everything you need to know about winning a 1v1 fight. Specifically we break down scenarios where you shoot at (or get shot) and decide you are going to engage the other player in a fight.

A recent encounter of MTBtrigger's is outlined in the mall area of Interchange just outside of the OLI store. This gun fight leads to a conversation of recognizing choke points and later identifying them before a fight begins.

The episode is rounded out by a discussion about how to control a choke point or use it to your advantage by anticipating enemy tactics.

Additionally, Ronal and MTB spend a few minutes talking about the rumors of a pending wipe (which seem to just be rumors). They boil it down to a question - what would the perfect length for a wipe be as long as we are in this ‘seasonal’ phase of the game. Is it a length of time or based on some sort of change or content release.

What do you think about the wipe schedule?

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this week’s episode it's all about 10 man labs.

Have you tried it? Do you think BSG is promoting it? Should it be allowed?

Ronal and MTB tackle these debates, but they also talk about what the community embracing 10 man labs could mean for future Tarkov content.

There are many things that point to teaming up in Escape From Tarkov as being an ‘OK’ thing to do - the ‘recruit-a-scav’ exfils for example. Additionally, there have been systems in the game teased that would work similar to reputation, a Karma system.

In a persistent game, all of these things would be expected. However, some recent changes, 5 man maximum on Factory and the changing of Killa’s mechanics and loot in the beginning of the wipe, point towards a seasonal mindset.

Ronal and MTB dissect these and more inside the episode!

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

We go full circle on this episode. The very first (official) episode of the Exfil was all about Interchange. MTB and Ronal head back into Interchange and talk about their recent experiences.

Both MTB and Ronal have had high percentage success rates when it comes to scav raids on interchange and they fully detail their strategy including the routes they use inside the mall to avoid PVP and scoop up loot!

Ronal talks about his ChADAR (the ADAR preset he has been using with m995 rounds on factory) and there is a short conversation about how to be successful right now on the factory map. There are a few things that have changed mid wipe - notably the need for a face shield and at least one magazine of high penetration ammo. You will see many other players with class 5 or 6 armor and a face shield or Altyn - be prepared!

Interchange and High Success rate scav runs. Both Ronal and MTB have developed strategies for completing roughly 90% of their scav runs successfully on interchange. The focus is on getting to OLI from anywhere on the map and looting it efficiently and being prepared for PVP with other scavs (or players) in a few key spots. They outline each of their routes from the common spawn points.

Shout out to reddit user u/Lorathor6 and AlphaStone for the map that we use in the video and if you’re looking for the map here it is! https://gamepedia.cursecdn.com/escapefromtarkov_gamepedia/e/e5/InterchangeMap_Updated_4.24.2020.png?version=c1114bd10889074ca8c8d85e3d1fb04b

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

One of the questions that comes up, almost daily, is what map should a new player start on? MTB and Ronal try their best to give a one-map answer, but the question is VERY loaded.

They also tackle how to get a friend to play Tarkov. If someone said they don't think you'd be good at game... would you want to try?

The strategies for getting their friends to play are… very… different.

Lastly, the topic of creating your own end game in Tarkov is explored.

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast.

12.7 is here and we break down our favorite (and least favorite…) parts of the new patch!

Ronal and MTB both got to check out some of the new customs expansion in a handful of live games and a few offline exploration missions.

Sanitar has been added to shoreline! The hosts talk about the new tasks related to him and his goons as well as the locations you can find him.

Grenade Launchers or as most veteran FPS players like to call them… Noob Tubes!

What do you think about the grenade launchers being added?

MTB, historically, has been VERY against projectile explosives being added to FPS games. He unpacks the few games that have done it (mostly) right and why he thinks the Tarkov implementation will not be well received.

Do you agree?

The episode wraps with a conversation about the new and improved Scav AI. Scavs now run around, group up, charge you, avoid hot areas, loot corpses and probably a lot more. The early experiences with the new scavs have been a very refreshing change.

Overall, we love 95% of the new patch and have concerns about the grenade launcher and we look forward to hearing what YOU have to say about this patch.

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

This week we talk about what a gaming rut looks like.

Is it self inflicted or can we point to game design?

Ultimately, we think it is a little bit of both, but we talk about various times we’ve felt this rut, whether it was a self imposed goal or game system holding us back. Most importantly, we talk about how to get out of the ruts and dead zones.

Lastly, MTB and Ronal talk about how much (liquid) currency they like to keep on hand and why. You might be shocked to hear how different it is from the previous wipe.

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

This week’s episode features guest host JesseKazam. Jesse is a Twitch partner and YouTube creator who creates excellent escape from tarkov content.

I’d you’ve ever completed, or are currently trying to complete, the task ‘Setup’ you will appreciate the conversation at the top of the episode. The restrictive nature of being required to use only a shotgun, Ushanka, and a scav vest leads to Setup being one of the most… memorable… tasks in the game.

The concept of missing shots when you thought they should have connected was brought up during the shotgun conversation and leads to how to be introspective regarding your own gameplay footage.

Jesse and the hosts agreed that often times when looking back at recorded gameplay footage you will find that the shot you were sure ‘should have killed him’ was a miss or an object was in the way correctly causing the bullets to not deal damage - great tips regarding how to capture your gameplay in the episode.

The final segment is related to the communication from BSG regarding RMT and cheaters as well as the subsequent in game changes to battle them. It is hard to enter this conversation without being negative, but a few new (to us) ideas surfaced regarding what BSG wants and how they might be approaching the issues.

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

We tried to do something new... and it worked!

It just didn't turn into a good audio-only version of a podcast.

So... we made two 'episodes' this week!

The first of which is Ronal and MTBtrigger checking out the expanded reserve bunker system. We were able to record both cameras and gameplay for both perspectives and you can catch that on YouTube at https://youtu.be/CNK_4YdIGGc

This episode, the audio version, is a recap and lessons learned session from that game play. Additionally, Ronal and MTB talk about their experiences with the new bunker systems, their preferred method of learning the new areas, and they dive into a complex PVP encounter they had with two separate three-man teams.

Prapor has two additional tasks related to this area and we are releasing guides on those tasks. The first is already up - https://youtu.be/SbxBOOqt3J8 Look for the second to drop soon.

Exfil is a weekly Escape From Tarkov Podcast

Changing task rewards is a normal thing in MMOs, right?

What about changing the ability to ‘earn’ some of the best cases in the game?

The entire Tarkov community, it seemed like, was on fire about the removal of the THICC weapon and item cases from their respective task rewards.

MTB and Ronal talk about how this effects their playstyle and why they think this change was made. Ultimately it led to a discussion about the impact RMT might be having on Tarkov.

Additionally, they talk about lessons learned from helping new players that recently discovered EFT as well as their experiments with using all guns on single fire. You might be surprised at the outcome!

Exfil is an Escape From Tarkov Podcast

GeeksEh volume 3

We welcome back Geekseh for the third time as we’ve all settled into the wipe and fresh changes that 12.6 has brought.

Last time Geek was on there was a notable discussion about what the find in raid changes were going to do to the economy, playstyles, and overall economy. This episode picks up on the heels of that conversation to see who was right.

teamgeekseh

teamronal

Who do you think is right?

Ultimately, these topics led to some amazing conversation about where the game is going, how Battlestate could modify in game systems to better support casual players (without hurting the hardcore players), and a deep dive into the speed of overall progression.

The episode wraps with a ‘looking forward’ segment with the host’s and Geekseh’s thoughts about the customs overhaul, sanitar the shoreline boss, and the (potential) skill wipe and overhaul.

As we all settle into our 2nd week of the new 12.6 wipe things have changed quite a bit from our first week.

The tables have turned a bit - Ronal has unlocked the flea market and has some tips for those that are struggling with the early game. MTB is in the mid 20s and has started to run into some of the tasks that require rare find-in-raid items or larger quantities of find-in-raid items.

The majority of the conversation, however, is centered around which guns are efficient in the early game. Ronal and MTB talk about which guns they have really enjoyed using and why. Also make sure to check out the early-wipe guide from our guest from the last episode, The1Heart - Blog Link

Best early game efficient weapons:

ADAR, SKS, AKs (basically all of them), VEPR (7.62x39 is preferred, but both versions are great, and the controversial mosin.

To break it down further the SKS and VEPR’s are great because the ammo (PS 7.62x39) is available early without a limit and you can also regularly find large stacks of it on scavs you kill.

AKs and ADARs are slightly different in that the ammo available from level 1 traders is not the best (keep in mind that nothing is horrible) but the ammo that generally drops from the scavs is quite good. You will regularly get BP in AKs and m855 in ADARs.

Guns that are very good, but not very efficient in the early game include the SVDS, Hunter, SA58, and VSS. The ammo for these guns is incredibly good, but not unlocked until at least trader level 2. It can be a great gun to take in a for one or two raids, but these will end up costing a significant amount in ammo if you have to purchase off the flea (or if you are under level 10 it will not be available).

The hosts talk about the mosin being a great option if you like the bolt action, but if you aren’t comfortable hitting an enemy with your first two shots you might want to avoid it.

Lastly, the hosts talk about some of their favorite items to target for high-value looting from scavs. Namely the PK06, dovetail mounts, and the pistol grip that is regularly found on the mp133/153

An Escape From Tarkov Podcast featuring guest The1Heart (@The1Heart_) and hosts MTBtrigger and Ronal

In this episode we dive into our gameplay and feelings after playing the first week of a new wipe for the first time.

MTB recalls his most memorable encounter while completing the pocket watch task on customs. After killing multiple PMCs and SCAVs he found himself clearing out the construction yard, but he missed one scav. While unlocking the door to the truck he heard the scav hell, turned, and was helpless for a moment as the scav shot at him. Fortunately, the unlocking animation completed and he was able to kill the scav and complete the task.

After the initial ‘what happened this week’ everyone talked about how they were enjoying the new patch and the conversation moved toward the find in raid change.

Is the flea market being at level 10 too much with the find in raid change?

Will it kill the fun for a casual player?

We won’t spoil it here but MTBtrigger, The1Heart, and Ronal all have very different views on the game in its 12.6 state and how it will move forward.

An Escape From Tarkov Podcast

On this episode MTB and Ronal talk about the task system at large after MTBtrigger talks through his final tasks, and the challenges he had completing them to get the kappa container.

The big revelation that came out of completing the Kappa quests was that it is very difficult, and almost ruins the fun, when you try to get one task complete. Specifically, MTB talks about how trying to get players into the ‘shooter born in heaven’ situation on Interchange is super challenging when that is ALL you are trying to do. Other players do not want to be shot at long distances… they don’t stand still… UGH. Both hosts then recall that some of their best experiences in the game are when they just take what the game gives them and aren’t super focused on getting something done. We know it can’t always be this way, but Tarkov gets VERY challenging, especially in PVP, when you have just ONE thing to do - we’ll be working on ways to not put ourselves in this situation again.

This concept led into the hosts talking about their experience with world of warcraft and the evolution of quests over time in that MMO world. They debated whether a rotating daily or weekly task system would be viable. Furthermore they talked about the sustainability of a relatively unchanging task system with the only end game result being a larger secure container

MTB tries to get some Flea Market Illuminati information out of Ronal - he fails.

Ronal pivots into a conversation about how he is using his last days, weeks, or however long this patch lasts, to practice using very little gear and fighting geared players. Unkitted AKs, no grenades, and class 2 or 3 armor.

Lastly, ‘we’ (MTB and Ronal), get a TON of questions about upgrading PCs, buying new PCs, and the ‘best’ settings in game. The truth is there are a number of things that are very helpful to in game performance that have nothing to do with Tarkov itself. Many of these are windows settings or hardware settings. Ronal, putting his IT background to use, goes through, in great detail (click by click) and shows you how to optimize your computer and then jumps into the settings for Tarkov itself to help you get the BEST POSSIBLE PERFORMANCE out of this game. Check this video out - many people have been responding and let us know that they are seeing VERY significant improvements to in game FPS.

If you’ve never really messed around with your computer settings - check it out

If you just recently made the switch from console to PC - check it out

If you purchased a pre-built computer - check it out

MTB talks about it on the episode - he has done a tone of optimization videos, this one is slower and has a walkthrough and he learned quite a few things doing it.

This is far more than just making sure your graphics settings are correct - we HIGHLY recommend you go check this video out - https://youtu.be/1dtTJxcfkl4

An Escape From Tarkov Podcast featuring returning guest Geekseh

On this episode we welcome back Geekseh for the second time.

For more background information on Geekseh, make sure to check out episode 11 of The Exfil at - Google | Spotify

Geekseh has started a hardcore account that he is playing through on his stream occasionally so the hosts asked what the exact rules are for a hardcore account - if you’re approaching a spot where you really want to make the game more challenging check out the hardcore ruleset. It includes things like you can only put keys in your gamma, you can’t use the flea market, you can only use money for upgrading traders and hideout, and much more!

Perhaps the most interesting part of this conversation are the things you learn from playing this way - how important sound is, knowing the barters inside and out, and the importance of waiting.

Find in raid change. For the unfamiliar, in the next wipe/patch 12.6 it will be required that an item is found in raid to be posted on the flea market for other players to purchase. This is a very significant change from the current patch as items purchased from traders and those looted off enemies or found in raid can all be sold on the flea market

This topic takes up the meat of the show and the hosts take a look at it from as many perspectives as possible. Perhaps the most interesting question asked during this segment was what the host’s, and Geekseh’s, opinions are regarding the percentage of the player population that hit level 40 (thus unlocking the ability to have max level traders and thus a majority of the items and trades available for direct purchase).

It was on the heels of this conversation that Geekseh accused Ronal of being a part of the Flea Market Illuminati (a fictional [maybe?] group of people with a secret discord that conspire against everyone to control the flea market).

So while a rivalry was born everyone shared their strategies for the wipe for leveling, gaining gear, and how to make money.

Goodluck out there! We hope you enjoy the conversation about the wipe and if you happen to be a part of the flea market illuminati let us know or flash us the secret hand signal - we’d love to hear from you!

An Escape From Tarkov Podcast Featuring: Jeremiah Fraites of the Lumineers

On this episode, your hosts, MTBtrigger and Ronal, were joined by Jeremiah Fraites (aka Jer) of the Lumineers.

Jeremiah is one of the founders of the band, but has enjoyed gaming in his free time and has recently taken up Tarkov.

They talk about the challenging uptake of the game and how he has been using his free time, after his family goes to bed, to stream and play Tarkov.

Also included in the episode is an in-depth look at some of the unique sounds that have been created in Jeremiah’s music. All of this stemming from a question about what it is currently like while being stuck at home (no studio time or touring) and creating music for his solo album.

This led to some inside info on where some of the ‘background’ noise comes from and when it should or shouldn’t be allowed in music. It is fascinating to listen to someone who creates music talk about the process and philosophy behind some of the well known songs, Donna for example.

The episode is rounded out by a conversation of a rabbit hole of Tarkov. They talked everything from team killing to post-wipe strategy (and fear). Perhaps the most unique part of the conversation was discussing how to get better at the game and a discovery the MTB tells everyone, at least Ronal and Jer, the same story about their progression.

Goodluck out there! We hope you enjoy the interview!

An Escape From Tarkov Podcast

The hosts learned a new term this week. Brad.

They also had a good laugh about it. Brad, if you’re wondering, is referring to someone, likely running alongside a geared player (chad) who looks the same, but seems to be a bit… lost. Everyone can probably relate to being new and being shown around by someone who knows what they’re doing which caused Ronal and MTBtrigger to think back to their days as a Brad… Perhaps they still have some Brad-like tendencies.

The two main topics this week are ‘what to do before the wipe happens’ and ‘post-wipe strategy’.

It has been noticed that once the wipe has been announced (best guess is 2 to 3 weeks from this episode going live, but that is pure speculation) that many players use this time to gear up and run maps that they want to learn. Factory, MTB’s favorite, seems to be attracting a lot of super geared players and many of them are now running in larger groups.

Ronal talked about using this time to learn loot runs to be ready for having zero gear, but he also talked about learning areas of maps that he was avoiding previously, but has now found it fun to PVP in. Factory and the dorms area of Customs were the two locations discussed. Customs, in particular, was spoken about due to the advantage you can gain over other players by learning the different sounds in the dorms as well as using distraction, by means of grenades, to conceal your movement and flanks.

Shortly after this, an unplanned discussion broke out between the two of them about the impact of the proposed flea market change requiring that items have the ‘found in raid’ flag to be posted for sale. The hosts speculated back and forth about what this could mean for the playerbase and for the economy. While Ronal and MTB aren’t pure rat or pure chad, respectively, this lead to a very interesting debate about how this will affect each play style, and specifically casual players, and ultimately led to a difference of opinion regarding the flea market change. What side are you on? Do you think this is a good change? Do you think it was done specifically to combat hatchet/pistol runners? Do you think a different approach should have been taken by Battlestate?

For our hosts, this will be the first major change (and wipe) that they experience so the optimism and simultaneous concern regarding the changes led to one of the best conversations around game mechanics to date.

Goodluck out there! Let us know how you feel about the find in raid tag being required for selling items on the flea market!

An Escape From Tarkov Podcast - Veritas interview

On this episode, your hosts, MTBtrigger and Ronal, have the chance to sit down and talk with Veritas.

Veritas is perhaps best known for his YouTube channel where he breaks down items and systems in Tarkov giving players a way to make informed decisions about what to use.

While most players will likely discover his videos if they search anything related to escape from tarkov, he also streams on twitch full time, developed an app - Battle Buddy, produces his own music on Spotify, and did we mention he is a full time software engineer on top of all that?

Right off the bat Veritas jumps into his gaming history - from the earliest gaming memories to the most impactful games that led him to content creation. On the list - Mario, GTA 3, COD4, and counter-strike.

It wasn’t until very recently (roughly 2016) that Veritas started creating content, but he attributes the ‘creative’ side to his dad. His dad, also an engineer, had the key characteristic of when something broke he would learn how to fix or build it - one notable memory is of his was his dad building a drum set from scratch.

Many other impactful stories are told - finding music videos on a computer his dad was fixing for a friend, learning to make videos as proof for a competitive call of duty ‘league’, and much more in the episode.

When the conversation turns to Tarkov, it started with how Battle Buddy (Veritas’ app that helps with things like ammo and gear comparisons) came to be, including what framework it was developed on for both android and iOS. Veritas talks about his plans for the app which may even include completely rewriting the code.

The episode is rounded out by a fascinating discussion on what Tarkov ‘is’,what it could be, and where the hosts (and Veritas) think it will end up.

Goodluck out there! We hope you enjoy the interview!

An Escape From Tarkov Podcast

Lots of stories on this episode of the EXFIL - MTB kicks off the show with a story about the upper level of interchange when his partner (in a duo) was killed and then MTB proceeded to wipe out the entire 5 man team that surrounded his area.

While it would have been easy to stop there he went on to talk about an epic fail on Factory when he went in with a ‘full chad’ setup - Exfil helmet with ear covers and face shield, raid backpack, meta AK, etc. Basically meta chad except for one thing… he forgot a chest armor and ended up getting killed with 1 bullet to the thorax from a patrolling AI scav. Ronal was quick to point out the easy lesson here!

Shout out to Nickk this week as he sent in a (very sad) story about a severe case of dehydration. Specifically, he was leaving a raid as a THICC PMC on Labs and died in the elevator extract with 1 second left on the exfil timer due to dehydration. While this seems crazy, if you’ve been playing this game long enough you have probably experienced some kind of death, maybe not dehydration, but something nearly as unlucky. After reading the story MTB and Ronal give tips related to handling all of the debuffs and perhaps the most interesting point made is one about how long you actually spend dealing with severe debuffs compared to your total playtime. It is likely in the seconds or minutes compared to the hundreds of hours spent running around and looting. Think about how you would act in these scenarios because you may only encounter them a few times in your Tarkov career.

Nvidia Filters. From color correction to vibrance enhancing, the recent conversation (mostly on reddit) has been related to the stance @bstategames took on twitter saying these would be turned off with the 12.5 patch but Nvidia did it early. While the business implications are interesting the hosts also do not shy from giving their opinion on 3rd party software modifying games. There are certainly cases that can be made for particular players that need correction, but the hosts navigate through the various thought processes and camps related to 3rd party correction. You might be surprised where they land on this issue.

Lastly, Ronal talks about some settings at the end of the episode that may really help your FPS in game. Specifically he talks about what the textures setting does to your CPU and GPU load and some tricks you can utilize to optimize your in game FPS. This is in direct response to the Nvidia filters going away and people looking for ways to get more out of their in-game settings for the 12.5 patch.

Goodluck out there! Let us know how you feel about the color correction settings going away!

In this episode, MTBtrigger and Ronal talk about their adventures with thermal scopes. Both of them have very different experiences and strategies for how to use thermal scopes to your advantage. MTB walks through how to learn maps and specifically how to identify patterns in PMC behavior while having the ‘advantage’ of a thermal scope. Ronal, on the other hand, used the thermal scope to gain confidence and map knowledge to move through the mid-game tasks.

This conversation led to a deep dive on spawn locations; the progression of not knowing where PMCs start or where they will come from, to understanding where they spawn, and ultimately how to ‘clear out spawns’. They also mention the idea of a buzzsaw - there is usually a point or two on each map that all PMCs filter through to get to the other side of the map. The example given was the lumber mill on Woods or the gas station and resort on Shoreline. Knowing when other players are going to be at those locations and where they come from is critical for a successful exfil in Tarkov.

MTB recounts him killing another player right as he spawned in on Factory that ultimately led to a highly upvoted reddit thread related to spawning late on maps. This is perhaps the longest MTB and Ronal have disagreed on something - which side are you on regarding the ‘issue’ with spawning in late on a map (after the countdown). Many other topics were discussed related to spawn points: How to use scav location or lack thereof to your advantage, knowing where scavs patrol and don’t patrol to quickly identify PMCs or player scavs, and how hard it can be to move from scav to PMC because of the ‘raid start spawns’

Healing Breakdown:

This section starts with a story, a continuation of the story at the top of the show about how to heal during an encounter and what things you need to consider to make your decision.

Question for YOU: What debuffs and/or limbs do you heal or cleanse first and why? Do you have a ‘system’ you follow for healing?

MTB and Ronal shared the view that you should generally handle blood loss first closely followed by pain, but this is all situational, especially if you have a propital. Do you agree?

The episode is rounded out by an overview of all of the ailments and debuffs your character can ‘acquire’ or be afflicted with during a raid and what items can help you. Other topics discussed included Survival kit versus CMS.

There are a ton of things to worry about in Escape from Tarkov so we hope this conversation about healing, debuffs, and spawn locations helps you survive in more raids. Stay safe and scav often!

The Dream (and dream analysis) episode.

On this week’s episode MTB and Ronal talk about some of the things they ‘miss’ from other games or would like to see in Tarkov. The discussions start with a “wouldn’t this be cool” context, but we think you’ll be surprised where they land on some of their ‘dreams’

MTB brings up a popular third party resource from PUBG (Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds for the unfamiliar - A battle royale FPS) called PUBG.report; a website that uses the API to pinpoint, and deliver, the time at which two twitch streamers fight and one of them gets knocked or killed. The thought of this coming to Tarkov is an interesting one - would you want to see when you kill a streamer? Would it cause more issues with stream sniping?

Ronal’s main wish list item is an expanded market tool section or an API to allow for addons to be created. This spawned the debate of whether or not overlay addons would be a good thing for Tarkov - Would it be OK as a stat dump after a raid? What about just a market API that gave more tools for ‘playing’ the market? Many references are made to the way World of Warcraft handles their addons and because Tarkov has many similar elements to larger MMO games (especially in the trade system) MTB and Ronal spent a fair amount of time talking about what they (battlestate) could do.

Those were the topics that the hosts flipped on, but the one they both agreed on that would be an amazing addition to the game would be the ability to share gun presets. For example, send an in-game mail of some kind that would allow the other user to save the gun preset to make it easier to build.

To continue the conversation from last week about the flea market the hosts give examples of some trades that can be very profitable with the test results of buying the items for the trades and subsequently selling the item that was traded for. There are many trades that can make Roubles simply by purchasing off the flea market, crafting or trading, and then sell the final product. In some cases you can make as much as 400k roubles at this point in the wipe (~6 months in) but there are also trades you can complete with level 1 traders that can yield a profit. The trades or hideout options that were discussed: Magazine Case crafted in the Lavatory in the hideout, Weapon Case trade from Mechanic Loyalty Level 3, Red Rebel trade from Jaeger Loyalty Level 3, Tetris to Bitcoin trade from Mechanic Loyalty Level 1, and finally the S I C C Case from Jaeger Loyalty Level 3. All of the details for how to make a profit utilizing these trades is within the episode. The methodology discussed can be used to determine if any trade is profitable.

Good luck out there! Let us know if you use any of these trades or crafts already or if you have one that you prefer over these.

A recent nighttime raid MTBTrigger and Ronal did caused a few revelations for them both - on one hand MTB realized that an early negative experience in a night raid kept him from going back for nearly 40 levels and Ronal found that the current tasks he was trying to complete were surprisingly easier in night raids versus some that he recently completed during daytime raids.

The saga of strength leveling continues. Ronal digs in and talks about his (literal) journey across the Shoreline map to get his strength leveled.

Deep Dive on Flea Market: flea market basics, how the flea market works, making money using the flea market with the traders and hideout.

How it works - establishing value between players. Early on it is best to compare what the traders will give you versus what players will pay on the flea market.

Wishlist - do you use it? MTB talks about a strategy with the wishlist that may reduce the time it takes you to ‘complete’ your daily hideout tasks.

How to use all of the various tools and filters to your advantage when using the flea market. Not all of them are useful, but MTB and Ronal offer various ways to think about specific functions in the flea market. For example - you can use the minimum quantity to find underpriced items that are not at 100% quantity ( in the show MTB talks about survival kits and how he found a nice flip opportunity).

Beware ‘barter trades’ from players. Most of the time these are put up as a scam - think about it... why would a player put up a trade for something that is a worse value for them compared to just selling it on the flea market?

Linked search and required search. Not only are these powerful functions to help you when trying to mod guns, but they can be used to quickly learn ‘WHY’ an item is valuable by seeing the barter trades a particular item is used for. using required search will not show you what an item is used for in the hideout crafts

There is always a rabbit hole and in this episode it was related to linked search - MTB and Ronal break down exactly how this function works and why it may not seem intuitive in the beginning, but it is perhaps one of the most useful tools for finding gun parts once you know how to utilize it. The biggest challenge with linked search is knowing which gun part you should do the linked search on to find the correct modification. Often times doing a linked search on the gun itself will not give you the correct options for modding.

The final topic is how to make money in the flea market. Worth noting is that the specific examples given in this episode worked at the time, or in the past, and won’t necessarily work again - the idea was to give the mindset behind executing a ‘market strategy’ for finding opportunities to make extra currency.

Finding ways to make or earn currency is one thing, but don’t get so focused on the flea market that you neglect to find the areas where you are losing money. Do you throw away matches and other low-value barter items? You could be turning those into fuel for your generator versus purchasing fuel tanks from traders/flea market.

Goodluck out there - let us know about your flea market wins and losses!

Lots going on in the greater Tarkov community in the last few weeks so we spent some time talking about a few fun and exciting things as well as the topics that maybe aren’t the player base’s favorite.

The community, reddit specifically, is really excited about an idea related to a Stim Case. The idea behind this is most players aren’t utilizing stims so Ronal and MTB discuss what this might look like and if its something that actually belongs in the game or if this would be leading down a path to Tarkov not being ‘hardcore’ enough. Perhaps most impressive about the entire stim case situation is it started with a post about the idea and then evolved into multiple graphic artists creating drawings and ultimately fully rendered examples of what it could look like - we thought that was pretty cool

Common complaints recently have been revolving around stutters and cheaters (mostly on Labs, but they’ve been getting to other maps). There isn’t anything definitive out there from Battlestate on these issues, but the hosts talk about some of the conspiracy theories and research that has been posted to the EFT forums, reddit, and the Tarkov Discord.

Lastly, the SCAV conversation seems to find little nooks and crannies in every conversation, but it was time for a ‘best practices’ sort of conversation related to all of the tips and one-off topics that were covered on previous episodes.

It is always hard to end a conversation about SCAVs so we hope you’ll laugh with us when Ronal and MTB can’t seem to close the conversation out and keep having ‘just one more thought’ near the end of the episode.

Our signature final statement seems super appropriate this week :) - Goodluck on your SCAV runs - we look forward to meeting you and hunting down some PMCs!

On this episode Ronal and MTB discuss the latest .12.4 patch that hit this week which came with a number of surprises… some had a much larger impact than others.

Are you noticing the new stamina changes? (separated leg and arm stamina)

They discuss the Strength and Endurance mid-wipe reset and how this impacted the ENTIRE player base, the new changes that came to Interchange, the overburdening system, and much more inside the episode!

Due to popular requests… your beloved hosts settle the debate of the Clip vs. the Magazine

The episode wraps with their recent stories about a few hours spent on the Factory map as well as some tips and tricks for anyone looking to improve their game on Factory. They talk, in detail, about The Office location in the Factory (3rd story room with the window exfil for Scavs).

Good luck on your SCAV runs - we look forward to meeting you and hunting down some PMCs!

Ronal and MTB sit down with Geekseh for almost two hours to discuss all things EFT and his background in content creation.

From his start on a laptop that crashed when followers showed up during his early Hearthstone days to the first time he quit Tarkov and why he picked it up and it is now the game he developed a successful YouTube channel around - we hear all about the journey.

He tried to slide ‘buttered boy’ into a conversation and we get the full definition inside the episode.

Flea market level changes, AS Val and VSS w/ SP-5 ammo, why map knowledge is the number one skill you should be ‘leveling’, and many more Tarkov topics inside the episode...

Ronal talks about how to turn your PMC runs into glorified scav runs on shoreline. Additionally he talked about the caches that are all around the outskirts of this map. Look for the maps he uses and created for these runs in the discord

Perhaps the most interesting debate the hosts have had to date, if you want to call it that, occurs on this episode when Ronal and MTB have differing viewpoints on the effect an over reliance on scav running can have on different playstyles. Is scav running more likely to be a clutch for a Rat or a Chad - arguments for both inside the episode!

Consider your budget when thinking about gear efficiency - the team talks through which items and gear pieces they think are the most effective for survival. You might be surprised where they land on headsets, armor, ammo, ergo/recoil, etc.

The episode is wrapped up with a conversation about how to best utilize the traders with a high level view on what they can do for you - even at low reputation levels.

Both MTBtrigger and Ronal had some epic raids this week that they breakdown. Some were PVP battles and others were related to ‘breakthroughs’ in game mechanics or understanding key features of Tarkov.

If you are having trouble spotting people at range or feel like you are missing shots - the video MTB spoke about regarding your FOV setup is here - https://youtu.be/gGl_59n9mCg (Credit to the youtube creator Gambet for the video)

To continue on the budget gun discussion from the previous week Ronal and MTB also discussed the weapon builds that they became attached to - specifically the MDR,a modded HK, and a low recoil AK-74M build.

The final bit of the conversation ends with an introspective look at how both of them look at themselves while playing in groups or for their own progress in the game.

We hope you enjoy!

Is Ronal turning into a Chad? Maybe! We discuss how familiarity with maps and certain areas can develop into a hybrid play style and what it means to be comfortable in Tarkov (more conversation on battling gear fear).

We talk about different aspects of the budget or economy loadouts - what types of guns should different types of players use? Should you wear a helmet? Should you use guns you take from other players? Are there guns that can be used in most situations? All of this and more in the budget conversation.

We finish up with a list of the ‘working on’ items that were discussed on the latest episode of TarkovTV with Nikita and a cast of over 10 very large streamers. Summit1G made a very good point that we break down regarding the server performance and what gamers are actually looking for and what they will wait for.

Interchange rework, Raiders, new guns, new suppressors, air drops!?!?! We could go on and on here, but we literally listed out all of the leaks on the show and talk about the ones that we think will have the largest impact on players

You may have seen DottyHack on twitch, but have you listened to him on the microphone!??! We got ahold of him to talk for about an hour! He has ~3 years of Escape From Tarkov experience so we wanted to know more about the history of the game and his streaming career.

We learned about his past as a traveling musician in a Metal band. We talk about his recent partnership status with Twitch!

He breaks down his favorite budget guns and loadouts for Escape From Tarkov including the strategy behind why he likes those setups.

Many changes have come to the world of Tarkov and we got to learn about a few of those from Dotty. Interchange before Killa, Interchange before they added scavs (players only - sounded really neat), Shoreline before resort was added, and much more inside the episode

The episode wraps up with some of the things we, including Dotty, are looking forward to in future patches.

We hope you enjoy it!

This week we sat down with Dadcaster. You may be familiar with him if you have ever stopped by the twitch streamer Hambinooo’s channel.

Dadcaster was the person who took MTB under his wing when he first started and pulled him along.

His main Tarkov focus recently has been completing all of the tasks to get the elusive Kappa Container so we couldn’t think of a better person to talk task strategy with.

On this episode we also go over the podcast that Battlestate put out on their twitch channel (twitch.tv/battlestategames) which you can still find under their videos section. It is roughly two hours worth of Nikita answering questions and trolling the EFT community. We watched the whole thing and talk about the things we were interested in and, as is tradition, went down many rabbit holes.

Among the things discussed: New weight system, new armor plate system, cultists, lag & desync issues, map duration, our favorite tasks, the tasks we wish would be removed from the game, the development philosophy behind Escape From Tarkov, and much more in the episode

We hope you enjoy it!

You can also find Dadcaster in the EXFIL discord or feel free to DM him on discord!

Lots of opinions here - If you don’t agree or have a different strategy we’d love to hear about it!

You’ll learn very quickly that in the last week we saw a fantastic video by GeneralSam (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o286LaBz__Y&t=901s) - Make sure you check it out. It is basically the perfect comparison between playstyles and echoes how MTB and Ronal differ in playstyle - with shocking accuracy.

We talk about our feelings regarding Battlestate’s decision to lower the raid times and then dive in to how that is affecting the way people each map that has been reduced. Most notably are Customs and Interchange. Is it a bad thing? We’re not sure and definitely haven’t had enough time to fully engage the new raid times, but trends are already appearing.

The Rat vs. The Chad - we were previously talking about this as the ‘W Key’ and the ‘slower playstyle’. We now have perfect names for the way we play. MTB is the Chad, Ronal is the Rat. We talk about some adventures where our strategies work really well together and where it doesn’t quite go so well. We are already looking forward to breaking down future scenarios with this new lense. Go check out GeneralSam on Youtube - there are some hilarious Tarkov videos.

Lastly, we go through our favorite strategies for inventory management. We talk about how we approach inventory and stash management and give our best tips and tricks. I think we both learned something new from each other on this episode so we hope you do as well.

Ammo spreadsheet we talked about for knowing what to keep and what to sell - Ammo Chart

Join us for EXFIL a brand new Escape From Tarkov podcast. In this episode we talk about Gear Fear! How to deal with it, and how to overcome it! We also talk about Grenades and basic gear loadouts for the Early game.

Gear fear seemed a little too broad of a term (even though it is used often) so we decided to dig into the various times you will experience it and then gave our best strategies for getting out of the gear fear paralysis.

We talk about how to use grenades to bait enemies, how to use it to scare enemies, and then why we think it is one of the most important non-weapon utility items in the game. Most of all we think you shouldn’t be scared to throw grenades, and throw them often, even if it means throwing it into the wall in front of you and having to run away screaming.

Lots of opinions here - If you don’t agree or have a different strategy we’d love to hear about it!

Join us for the 3rd Tarkov podcast, but the first branded episode of EXFIL our new Escape From Tarkov podcast. In this episode as we talk with Dan from @TheHotDrop podcast.

We cover the Twitch loot event, our experiences so far in the game, and why we think EFT will or will not be a mainstream game going into the future. Also, we touch on some simple things that if added to the game could change everything.

Many comparisons are made to titles that defined gaming culture or a gaming genre. Half-Life is referenced often as Dan and Ronal had a shared passion for the valve classic.

To end we give our best tips and strategies for having successful Interchange runs. We have some aggressive players and some not-so-aggressive players so there is something for everyone here!

Let us know if something in the episode helped you out (or if you disagree). We want to get better and if there is a topic you'd like us to cover please don't hesitate to reach out.

Are games that don’t hold your hand fun? What about games that don’t even acknowledge that you have a hand and if your hand is so much as spotted by another player or AI you will be shot? How does Tarkov compare to PUBG? Can a punishing game be fun for non-elitist FPS players?

Interestingly enough, Escape from Tarkov is like this, and we really like it so far.

We’re enjoying the noob journey, but also the way people step up to show us around.
