How can we respond to the complex & contradictory opportunities to present Christ to contemporary culture? This workshop outlines emerging worldviews—liberty, morality, religion, and spirituality—and shows how each one misunderstands the gospel in different ways. Kamal Weerakoon explores how they blind people to their need for Christ by proposing alternative ways of salvation. Understanding these belief systems and the ways of life they inculcate will help us minister to the different people we will encounter in this time of change.

Kamal is an assistant minister at Gracepoint Presbyterian church and an adjunct lecturer at Christ College (Sydney) and the Reformed Theological College (Melbourne).

Coz challenges churches to think deeply about mission contextualisation: who’s missing from our churches, how boundaries shape our communities, and why demographic averages often hide local realities.

Coz helps us think through what it looks like to walk, shop, and live locally—so that we can truly know and reach the people God has placed around us.

How do you preach judgment without becoming cold—or crushed? Adam Ch'ng speaks to us from Isaiah 24 and the gut-wrenching reality of God’s wrath. It’s not just about saying hard things—it’s about feeling them. We explore what it means to be a preacher who isn’t just right in doctrine but broken in heart. If you’ve ever been tempted to soften the gospel or skip the hard bits, this one’s for you. Brace yourself: it’s heavy, honest, and full of hope.

Adam Ch'ng is the senior pastor of Cross and Crown in the suburbs of Melbourne.

Mission isn’t a bolt-on feature or a singular gear in the engine; it’s the fuel that drives every part of the church ecosystem. Integrate it, and the whole church comes alive.

Greg Lee unpacks how mission can and must be integrated into every area of church life, from welcoming to administration. Doing so doesn't drain ministry, it ignites it.

Greg Lee is the lead pastor at Hunter Bible Church in Newcastle.

Evangelistic urgency must start with the leader. Phil Colgan argues that church leaders must personally bleed for the lost if they want to see their churches grow in evangelism. It's not merely about strategy and vision. Culture flows from the top, and that includes zeal.

Churches that burn for the lost are led by pastors who bleed evangelism—personally, visibly, and relentlessly.

Phil Colgan is the Senior Minister at St George North Anglican Church in Sydney.

The ultimate goal of salvation, and therefore mission, is that people would glorify God for his mercy.

Des says mission flows from two deep convictions:

first, a grief that people are robbing God of the glory he deserves;

second, a longing for them to see, enjoy, and share in that glory forever.

His challenge to Christian leaders is this: don’t let strategy be your fuel. Let your fire for mission be driven by the glory of God and keep that fire burning by fixing your eyes on Jesus, the radiance of God's glory.

Des was the Senior Pastor at Trinity Church Adelaide and is now helping to plant Trinity Church Lockleys, where he now serves.

Paul and Sue Harrington join us to reflect on decades of ministry in South Australia and the journey of leading the Trinity Network in South Australia. From one church in the city to a growing network across suburbs and regions, they share what’s shaped their vision, what they’ve learned along the way, and how they’ve seen God at work through it all. The network is currently made up of fourteen churches and they are praying to see more churches planted in the next few years.

It’s a conversation about planting, perseverance, partnership—and the privilege of watching the gospel grow.

Wade and Paul tackle questions from church leaders about the complexities of multisite, leadership, governance, and culture.

Questions include:

  • Can two struggling churches merge into something healthy and growing?
  • How do you choose the right leader for a multisite context, especially in more matrix-style leadership models?
  • How can a church without a strong planting culture begin to develop one?
  • What are the challenges and implications of changing a church’s governing structure?

There’s only one gospel—one incredible, life-changing, Jesus-centred message. But there are heaps of ways to explain it! And sometimes different people need to hear it in different ways to understand why they need Jesus.

Even in the New Testament, we see it expressed in different ways. Paul puts it like this in 2 Timothy 2:8:

‘Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel.’

And in 1 Corinthians 2:2, he says:

‘For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.’

Same gospel. Different ways of putting it.

And that’s what this series is about! We want to introduce you to a range of gospel tools—different ways of explaining this same, unchanging good news. None of these tools are perfect. But all of them are useful.

Think of this like a toolbox. A good tradie doesn’t just have one tool—imagine trying to build a house with only a hammer! No, they’ve got options. And so do you.

But here’s the key—tools don’t do any good if they stay in the toolbox. So… grab one. Try it out. Start using it!

Because the gospel isn’t just something to know—it’s something to share."

Phil Colgan from St George North Anglican Church reminds us of the noble call of the pastor from Acts 20:17-38. Especially the importance of “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.” (Acts 20:28)

Pastors need to keep in mind ministry is done:

  1. In humility

  2. With tears

  3. Through trials

  4. With the priority of the word

  5. Guarding yourself

  6. Guarding the Flock

Ministry involves navigating a range of relationships and responsibilities, many of these are pastorally complex and the intensity of these relationships can often leave pastors drained of energy and confused about what help they can offer – How do you get clear on what your responsibility is, and isn’t? What help is actually helpful?

This workshop offers a family systems view on pastoral care and considers how anxiety in relationships can often overwhelm the intentionality we would like to have in pastoral care. In this workshop we will:

  • Think about the idea of congregations as emotional relational systems
  • Take a step back and observe how patterns of care on offer might be unsustainable or even unhelpful
  • Explore ideas of overfunctioning and underfunctioning and the application of these in ministry where ministers / pastoral carers are primed to overfunction for others
  • Consider how to shift the focus of responsibility and care for someone from an anxious quick fix to having long term emotional and spiritual growth in mind.

Executive Director – The Family Systems Institute

Lauren is the Executive Director of The Family Systems Institute, an organisation that offers family systems training for clinicians, supervisors, coaches and ministry leaders. She is a mental health social worker, couple and family therapist and supervisor, with experience in tertiary level mental health services and private practice in Australia and Scotland, currently counselling with Family Systems Practice. Lauren has published articles with the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy and co-edited a book entitled Bowen Family Systems Theory in Christian Ministry. She attends Newtown Erskineville Anglican Church where her husband, Andrew, is the Senior Minister.

Key reflections include clarity (for both the leader and the team), knowing your own tendency towards pace and setting a good pace for the team, and serving those in your team. Working with diverse skills and personalities in teams can bring huge strengths but also can cause irritations and ineffective teams.

For more on the Reach Australia Development Program, click here.

Aaron talks about Lencioni's Book 'The Five Dysfunctions of a Team' which has been helpful for him in identifying areas that cause dysfunction in a team and what he's found helpful to focus on to create thriving teams.

As churches have scrambled to adapt to this new season, we’ve been keen to support you, your team, and church throughout this time. Yet it is also important that we begin to recast our vision for making disciples & prepare our churches for meeting in physical gatherings again.

That’s why we’re launching a short term initiative to support you & your church during this time. For 10 years, Geneva Push has been supporting churches getting started from the ground up. More recently, Reach Australia has been supporting established churches to become healthy, evangelistic & multiplying churches. Together as a network, we have a wonderful God-given opportunity to see our people spiritually grow and reach the lost across Australia.

Kicking off 27 May 2020 with a 2 hour online conference from 10:30am - 12:30pm AEST. Register for free: https://relaunchaustralia.com.au/

  • “It was great you were able to do that”
  • “I thought you did a good job”
  • “I thank God for what you did/do /keep doing”
  • “I am grateful to God for how he keeps using you”
  • “Hey! Well done. That was good.”

  • "What I just saw you do is...[positive affirmation here]"
  • Using phrases like "I might suggest [a change in act/direction/practice]..."
  • "If you were to do that, how would that look?".

Reflection exercise: write one page identifying the key principles around giving feedback, as well as some examples of how team leaders can integrate this into their leadership rhythms. Make sure you give examples of how to deliver positive AND negative feedback in a helpful and constructive way.
