During the first lockdown my guest this week, Zoe Quinn kept me thoroughly entertained. I’d look forward to her daily One Outfit One Exercise Instagram account and I’d watch her run all over Howth exercising as I’d tuck into another Twirl. I’d muse to myself, as Amy Poehler once said ,‘Good for you, not for me.’ In this episode Zoe talked to me about her Z Talk series, her former life in fashion and lessons she’s taken from this unique time in history we’re all living through.
Now, here comes the science part. The 80% is always free to listen to but not free to make. If you would like to support making it you could sign up to my Patreon here For €3 a month I record two audio diaries and various other little bits that are designed to make you LOL. If money is an issue - don’t worry about it. Instead you can also show your support for free by clicking five stars in iTunes and leaving a short review, something casual along this line of ‘WOWEE. ESTHER - WHAT A TALENT.’ I don’t want to put words in your mouth but something like that would be more than adequate. Not only that but you can follow me on Insta here too if you feel like it too. Sure why not Marion?
Have a great Christmas break and let’s see what 2021 has in store for us all.
Peace and love,

What’s the tooth, I mean truth behind dentist sisters Lisa and Vanessa Creavens huge success? Over the past (almost) five years, they have built their brand from zero to heroes of oral healthcare. Not only have the made a huge dent in the Irish market but their brand is now also stocked in a teeny tiny American store called TARGET! They are top of their game and I for one, of course, am 80% happy for them. You want the tooth? You can’t handle the tooth etc. But hopefully you can handle my chat with Lisa and Vanessa.
WITH ALL THAT SAID, if you want to support the podcast which I’m sure between 1 and 3 of you do, then please sign up to my Patreon here For just over €3 a month I record two audio diaries and various other little bits. Recording an audio diary this year has been particularly brilliant seeing as we've all been trapped in our homes and I've done shag all,but we have a laugh mates.

Ahoy Hoy!
Welcome to another The 80% Podcast, the podcast where I am 80% happy for the success of my guests.
This week, it's Hannah Saunders!
Hannah Saunders founded her PR company when she was just 25. It’s a business she knows inside out, her dad being a superstar in the same field. Hannah has been determined to carve her own path though and achieve success on her own terms and on the back of her own hard work. There is no coat tail riding here.
Aside from building her business and representing both emerging and established Irish brands, Hannah has also built up her own personal fandom on Instagram with 31.7k followers wanting to know what’s she’s wearing, where she's holidaying as well looking to her for hair and beauty advice.
WITH ALL THAT SAID, if you want to support the podcast which I’m sure between 1 and 3 of you do, then please sign up to my Patreon here For just over €3 a month I record two audio diaries and various other little bits. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It's something even better. It's Today FM's Shauna O'Reilly!
You may hear her every day on the radio with Ian Dempsey slaying contestants with her song knowledge on Shaz AM or on Saturday nights, 6-9pm pumping de tunes but just who is Shauna O'Reilly?
Is she a woman obsessed with making her own salsa? YES.
Is she a woman who made the Slap Chop famous? YES.
What is a Slap Chop?
Well that's where I gotcha hooked! You're going to have to listen to find out. Am I good at this or what?!
WITH ALL THAT SAID, making The 80% costs money and I've made over 80 of them to date. Oh hi there!
Last time I saw yo, living in fear of contracting a debilitating virus was the stuff of nightmares and now look at us! Good times guys, amirrrrriiight?
After a long pandemic induced break, I am so glad to start this new series with the brilliant talent that is Nathan Foad.
Nathan is a writer, comedian, performer, expert present wrapper and definitely not a hockey player. Nathan’s star is rising which of course, I am 80% happy for, 20% full of loathing for.
Before the first lockdown Nathan executive produced a Channel 4 taster pilot for his original sitcom ‘Newark, Newark’ named after his home town Newark on Trent. But the success and achievement does not stop there which leaves me fuming. He has written for the BBC3/RTE production The Young Offenders, The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice for Channel 4 as well as being under commission from BBC Comedy and Comedy Central. If you haven’t see his brilliant online series Comedians in Quarantine, just click here baybuh. And if you’re looking for even more hilarity from Nathan, read his essays on his website and make sure you you follow him on Twitter and Instagram. Reader, je love him - he is a joy.
NOW WITH ALL THAT SAID, if you want to support the podcast which I’m sure between 1 and 3 of you do, then please sign up to my Patreon here For just over €3 a month I record two audio diaries and various other little bits. Hello 80%-ers!
Well, oh my my. Such a lot has changed in the world since we last met. The 80% has been put in cardboard box and is covered in straw like a hibernating tortoise for a while longer but in the meantime, I'm just say hiyas.
For this special HARD SELL non-episode of The 80%, I've included a little sample of what you can expect over on my Patreon where I continue to record. I do two audio diaries there a month for a three dollah subscription which works out at just under three euro, less than the cost of three Twirls. I mean, who can read these days? Instead, just pop me in your ear buds and off I go! You can unsubscribe whenever you like but if you've ever enjoyed any of the 80+ episodes of The 80%, your support on Patreon would be great.
Here is a handy little link for you should you want to check it out https://www.patreon.com/esthertwonames I also write an accompanying newsletter which has anything from certified Shite Talk, to show and book recommendations and recipes.
If you want, you can also follow on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/esthertwonames/
I hope you're okay wherever you are.
Wash your hands and share your feelings if you're finding things tough.

Welcome to the 80th (!!!) episode of The 80% - wowee!
I am so pleased that my guest for this special episode was writer and editor Ciara Elliot. I spoke to Ciara a couple of months ago on Zoom, before any of us knew how often we'd be using it in the future. For that reason, the audio quality is a bit different this week.
The 80% will be going into hibernation now for six weeks or so. This series was cut short due to the Coronavirus emergency but I'll be back with more excellent guests after some rest. If there's anyone terrific you think I should talk to, email 80percentpodcast@gmail.com. I'm open to ideas! In the meantime, in case you miss my tones, I can also be heard on Lennon Courtney Left Alone, a podcast I produce with Brendan Courtney and Sonya Lennon. It's great - like eavesdropping on two pals. Listen in all the usual places including here.
But back to my guest!
Ciara started her career working on the very cool Interview magazine in New York City where she worked alongside Ellen von Unworth and Bruce Weber. I loved this chat with Ciara because she has done so much and it’s always great to hear from someone who has worked hard at her career for so long and still has so much enthusiasm to create.

Hello Fellow Humans,
Another week in a global pandemic and what have we done? It’s still weird and uncomfortable for us all but if we all work together, apart we can help save lives and protect one another. All you have to do it sit tight and do nothing, well maybe listen to a podcast just like this one!
This week my brilliant guest is chef and business woman, Domini Kemp.
If you’ve been living under a bagel and never heard of the name, Domini Kemp, you’ve probably already eaten in one of her restaurants or cafes around Dublin. She is co-founder of Itsa group with her sister Peaches and launched the first Itsa Bagel on Abbey Street in 2000. She now owns Joe’s Coffee, Alchemy Juices, Hatch and Sons and Feast Catering Company.
Domini was born in the Bahamas and moved to Ireland as a teenager and since then, all roads have been leading towards, talking to me. She was beside herself. We had a great chat about food culture in her house growing up, familial expectations, the logistics of starting a food business and mentoring prisoners.
I loved talking to Domini and she was the first guest to make me a flat white. What a treat.
I hope you are looking after yourself during this weird time.
Peace and love,
Esther.

Hello Stay At Homers.
Please note that this chat was recorded before the Covid 19 emergency. I hope you are all staying safe at home and washing your hands.
This week, the queen of The 80% is Gaff Goddess, Laura de Barra. Laura came to national attention via her Instagram account where she showed DIY tricks, tips and videos. In her day job in London, she is a property portfolio developer as well as illustrator, designer, author and of course, general She-IY expert. Her first book Gaff Goddess: Simple Tips and Tricks to Help You Run Your Home was published this year and is riding high in the Irish book charts.
Her She-IY expertise has seen her appear on RTE’s The Today Show and land a column with TheJournal.ie. Laura has also been featured in Image magazine and The Gentlewoman and sold out live shows in support of the launch of her book.
From training in fashion design to a best selling author, Laura has always given 100% of herself to whatever task is in front of her. As she says in her own words, how you do one thing is how you do everything.
This is the Laura de Barra episode. I hope you enjoy!

Hello Universe and galaxies beyond,
It’s weird to put out a podcast during this strange time. I am very aware that many of us are feeling worried and anxious. Businesses are at stake, our routines have been interrupted and long held plans have had to be rearranged. I am feeling it all with you. It really is a matter of life or death at the moment and of course it is silly putting these podcasts out into the world. I do so knowing that people's plates are already full and that you may feel overwhelmed but hope you can use this episode as a distraction for forty minutes or so. With all that said, let me tell you about this week's guest.
This week I am 80% happy for Mairead Ronan, Today FM and TV broadcaster, business owner, Dancing with the Stars winner and lots more besides. We had a great chat outside the loo of Central Hotel on Exchequer St a few weeks ago and then we retired to a nearby room where a book club was taking place. I am truly an ace podcaster. Why did I not book a studio? Indeed. Indeed. At one point, if you listen closely, you can probably hear a loo flushing which is NO reflection on my career thank you very much!
I’ve spoken to Mairead many times remotely over the years during her time as producer on the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show so it was great to have a chat with her face to face finally. We talked about how she started out studying in Ballyfermot College, got work experience in MTV and Today FM and then didn’t leave for 15 years. She took some time away from Marconi House (Today FM's building) for couple of years to focus on other things (including winning Dancing with the Stars) but returned in 2019 to present her own weekday show.
I think this is a great episode if you’re thinking of trying something new but have the fear. It’s never too late to try something new so make a plan, start small and don’t wait for anyone else’s permission. It may never come! Don’t waste your precious time - just make sure you wash your hands thoroughly ; )
If you enjoyed this episode, please x1,000,000 go and leave a review on iTunes. It really helps the podcast move up the charts and you do want to help Esther out don't you? DON'T YOU!????
Peace and love, peace and love,
EO'MD.

Hello Universe!
I am so pleased to be back being 80% happy for people and very happy that the first guest of this new series is the iconic Linda Martin!
I spoke to Linda a few months ago, just before Christmas in Collaborative Studios (ideal for all your podcasting needs) in town. Big thanks to Shane Dempsey in Collaborative for organising the set up for me - you can hear me kicking him out at the start because I am such a DIVA - je kid.
Linda Martin grew up in Belfast and has performed since she was young although she originally wanted to be a vet. In the 1970s and 80s she toured with the band Chips and even opened up for Fleetwood Mac once. She said there was so much work at the time she was lucky if she got one day off a week. She was living her dreams.
Linda is the most frequent entrant in the National Song Contest having entered nine times. She was eventually victorious in 1992 when she won the 37th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo Sweden with the Johnny Logan penned song, Why Me? Linda further cemented her iconic status when she took on the role of judge/mentor in Popstars in 2001. During the series former Girls Aloud member Nadine Coyle famously pretended she had lost her passport when she lied about her age. The clip went viral. Linda was also a presenter on the brilliant The Lyrics Board (bring it baaaack), worked with old pal Louis Walsh on the first series of The X Factor and is still involved in the Eurovision universe.
When not performing around Ireland and Europe, Linda loves pottering about the garden at her home with her TWELVE dogs. Animal welfare is a true passion of hers.
Linda was an absolute delight to talk to.I hope you enjoy listening to her tales.

SAINTS ALIVE! EPISODE 75!
Here ye! Here ye!
Welcome to the last episode of this series of The 80%. I have ended this run of the podcast with a supersonic guest in the form of writer, podcaster and whirl of effervescence, Caroline O'Donoghue. I will return in November as now I must set off on my hunt, like Viggo Mortensen in Lord of The Rings, to find new guests...YIKES!
This series I've spoken to some incredible people who all happen to be women. Huge thanks to Saoirse McHugh, Melanie Morris, Vicki Notaro, Anna Haugh, Karen Constantine, Ciara Kelly, Merle O'Grady, Glenda Gilson, Tara Stewart, Sophie White, Eimear Varian Barry and now Caroline, who all generously gave of their time, wit and wisdom, to this 5ft11 cutie pie. But no timare! I already have names pencilled in to record with for series six, so The 80% will return.
To tide you over until then, I have made another podcast called Esther Is In Bits where we talk about being in bits and then being better. So far, I've recorded chats with some incredible people about subjects such as fertility, gender, sleep (!) and grief to name but a few. Go nuts and follow me on Instagram and Twitter for all the latest updates and incredible images from me.
Until we meet again, keep it fresh, keep it sexy and don't forget to put the oxygen mask of life on yourself first. Light the candles, drink the alcoholic or non-alcoholic wine and unhook your bra, real or metaphorical!

P.S If you want something great to read, you should buy or borrow Caroline's debut novel, Promising Young Woman.

SHUT THAT DOOR-IT'S EPISODE 74!
Eimear Varian Barry started out her media career producing in Red FM in Cork. At 21 she moved to New York to get experience in fashion and media which included working on the second Sex And The City film! During her time there, she also assisted as a stylist in Rolling Stone but like a rolling stone, she gathered no moss and took a big leap across the pond instead to Melbourne Australia. Whilst in Oz she worked at Style.com, met her partner Daniel and moved all the way back to the U.K. A tale as old as time.
EVB is huge on Instagram and is at the very top of her game as an online creative. She acts as photographer, stylist and creative director for huge brands but during our chat, she points out that it hasn't all been wine and honey. When she first started and had just had her first daughter Saoirse, she says her and Daniel were living on housing benefit. Eimear has worked her piece of the internet to the max and has managed to work it into a full-time gig.
She's a bladdy wonder mates and I hope you like it.
Until next Tuesday!

EPISODE 73: WOW WEE!
Way back at start of The 80%, (episode number twelve!) I chatted with this week’s guest, the exceedingly talented and tenacious, Sophie White.
Back then, Sophie had only written one book, had a weekly column in the Sunday Independent (which she still has) and been published in countless magazines and papers. I mean, what had she really achieved, eh? But Sophie was one woman in search of a novel, and 'ever tried. ever failed' she kept going, pursuing her creative dream which has been realised in the form of her debut work of fiction, Filter This.
We talked about getting to know a washing machine, rejection, the artifice, skill and enjoyment of creating a digital life, online shame and of course, her latest work. I've included links to most of the things we mentioned in this week's The 80% below.
I hope you enjoy this week's chat and my Ronan Keating impression. I am available for bookings worldwide.
A new episode will be up next Tuesday.
EO'MD.
P.S This episode is free to listen wherever you get your podcasts. If you like this it, you could leave a form of tip by sharing the link on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or laminate the link, stick it up in on the nearest bus shelter and tell everyone to listen.

TWIT TWOO-IT'S EPISODE 72.
**Before I launch into the deets on this week's guest, I want to give you an advance warning that the audio for the interview part is not great for this episode. I contemplated not uploading it at all (but I have, as you can see) and can only apologise for the poor quality. With that said, here comes the science part...
Tara Stewart's ascent to the top of the Irish media has been rapid. She’s only been working in radio for four years and already has her own show on 2FM! Not only that but she’s in demand at events and launches around Dublin City, DJ-ing her Aussie tush off in tiny glasses and second hand ensembles. PLUS she’s even ruddy signed to Select Model Management in London-I was positively seething with jealousy talking to her. Tara is known for her style and has a huge and dedicated following on Instagram. We chatted about how she arrived in Dublin wanting to be a musician but after finding radio, fell in love with the medium knew it was where she wanted to be.
New episode will be up next Tuesday invisible pals!

SHAKE YOUR BUM-IT'S EPISODE 71!
This week’s guest is the one and only, double G, Glenda Gilson. You might know her from her 11 year stint on TV3's Xpose but Glenda has been working in the industry since she was three years old! In the late 90s and early 2000s, you could barely pick up a paper without seeing Glenda in it which she parlayed into a full blown TV career.
She spoke to me about how she first got started, dancing with Michael Jackson and staying in the industry for so long. Glenda has met everyone including Donald Trump and even Snoop Dog when they hosted the Meteor Awards together. She is also thick as thieves with Niall Horan, Westlife, Louis Walsh and her Ireland’s Got Mor Talent host James Kavanagh.
Glenda has certainly come a long way from her Bubble Hits days and her hard work continues to pay off. In 2018 she also launched her jewellery line G by Glenda which no doubt will be a success just like everything else she has turned her hand to. I am a solid 80% happy for all she has achieved so far!

The 80% is free to listen to so sharing links and leaving reviews is like putting a tip in the tip jar.

EPISODE 70: IT’S ALL GRADY, BABY!
Back when I started The 80%, in 1875, Merle was kind and brave enough to come on and talk to me. I had no clue what I was doing but took the chance to put out a show on a digital station so I could then podcast it. Back then it would take me at least a week to edit one episode. I use to get so frustrated and felt like giving in all the time, but week by week I got a bit faster and now it only takes a mere 6 days to make each one-JK! I’ve included the link to my old chat with Merle below if you want to listen back.
In the five years since she’s we first met, a lot has changed in Merle’s life. She moved home to Dublin from London where her career was in its ascendancy. She then had her fabulous daughter Vega and well, her life blew up! She talked to me about how she suffered with post-natal depression and how then had to put herself and career back together. Merle threw out all the ideas she had about what her life should look like and instead moved into a new, different version of herself.
During my chat with Merle, something I heard Jane Fonda say in an interview came to me ‘I can’t make my life longer but I can make it wider and deeper.’ We all have to reimagine ourselves endlessly throughout our lifetimes as we lose bits ourselves and then recreate new incarnations of us in response. Merle is a living example of this.
I hope you enjoy it.
Don't forget to like, share and leave a review on iTunes if you enjoyed listening. It's easy to do on an iPhone but if you don't have an iPhone, just open up iTunes on your desktop and you can do it there. This podcast is free and leaving reviews really helps more people see the podcast. DO YOU FEEL GUILTED INTO DOING IT NOW-HUH?? ; ) Go on!
Until next Tuesday my friends!

Whilst I struggle to excel in one career, Ciara Kelly has managed to achieve solid gold, A+ status, in two. In her lifetime, she has managed to gain a medical degree, land a column in a national newspaper and get on the tele with Operation Transformation. She then had the audacity to leave her full-time career as a GP and land a job presenting Lunchtime Live, on Newstalk 106.8. How very dare she! I fully expect her to woman a space shuttle to Mars by 2021-this woman has no fear! Ciara shared how she ended up on the radio, asking for what you want and all the twists life took to get her to where she is now. I hope you enjoy it 80%-ers!
Until next Tueday, keep it fresh.

MAKE A DATE WITH EPISODE 68!
Well-ity, well-ity. Episode 68 and not a child in the house washed.
This week my very special guest is House and Home Editorial Director and Beaut.ie founder, Kirstie McDermott. We talked about freebies, freelance and Jurassic Park, all your classic convo hot topics. This episode packs a lot of information in so have your ears primed! I also mention tung oil about 35 times as I have spent too much time treating my bedside lockers with it over this Bank Holiday weekend. I have almost lost my mind varnishing, coating, sanding...oh my! You can learn more about this wondrous liquid here ; ) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tung_oil Anyway, I've decided, I'm not a tung oil type of gal so me and my 63 strong design team will be reimagining the lockers going forward. It's a trying time for EO'MD and no mistake!
Share this episode if you like it and please leave five stars on iTunes + a review if you enjoyed it! It really helps.

A PIECE OF PODCAST HEAVEN-IT'S EPISODE 67!
Like me, my super guest this week has two names. By day, she is Karen Constantine and by..eh..online, she is known as Lovely Girly Bits!
Karen has been blogging and creating online since 2009. This year, she took a leap of faith and decided to fully commit to her digital life. It's been a slow and steady ascent for Lovely Girly Bits but she has grown her audience by being real, like JLO. Karen is an inspiration for anyone who is scared to make a change in their life (however big or small) but feels like they don't know where to start. It can be overwhelming but slow and steady wins the race pals. Through hard work, she had parlayed her passion into a career and there's no reason why you can't do the same.
I hope you enjoy our chat and if you like it, please put a social media ring on it and leave a review. I know you hear podcasters go on about reviews all the time but that's because they really help move episodes up the charts so more people see it. You could also pass it on to someone you know who may enjoy it too. Every little helps maaaates ; )
Until next Tuesday my invisible friends.

CLICKITY CLICK! IT’S EPISODE 66.
Ahoy! This week my very, very special guest is one of my great pals and great talent chef Anna Haugh.
You may have seen her host Saturday Kitchen and Royal Recipes on the BBC or even Pointless Celebrities on Channel 4 but Anna is far from pointless. She has been working her tush off for years in kitchens across Europe honing her skills and making a name for herself as one of the most successful chefs in London. Starting out with Derry Clarke in l’Ecrivain in Dublin she has also worked for the acclaimed Gualtiero Marchesi’s in Paris, Pied à Terre in London, Gordon Ramsey at London House and Bob Bob Ricard.
I chatted to Anna when she was over in Dublin working at food festival a few weeks ago after a long day of service. Because she is my friend, I ignored her exhaustion and forced her to talk to me. I’m lucky to know her and I’m sure you will enjoy hearing her jourrrrrrneeeeyyy (plus the story of her dad stealing a stick of unripe bananas when he was small). Anna is destined to be a household name and I can't wait to see what the future holds for her.
If you like this episode, please leave a review. It takes seconds and means you can continue to listen to the podcast for FREE. Plus, if you like it, why not share the link with some friends you think might enjoy it too.
Now, if you're ever in London and want to treat yourself to great cooking and service here is the link for Anna’s restaurant, Myrtle Restaurant https://www.myrtlerestaurant.com/ TELL HER ESTHER SENT YOU (She will charge you double)

SAINTS ALIVE! IT'S EPISODE 65!
My overachieving guest this week is writer, editor and now VIP head honcho, Vicki Notaro. As Editor in Chief at Steller magazine, she has seen the title's readership soar. She has also written for The Irish Times, Irish Examiner, Buzzfeed and Irish Tatler to name BUT A FEW. If that wasn't enough, she hosts the highly successful podcast The Glow Up and is a regular contributor on radio and TV. I could not be more jealous ; )
We talk about how she got to the top of her game and what it feels like when you lose everything and have to start hustling for your career all over again.
Vicki was a dream so pop in those earbuds and settle down to hear her story.
Until next Tuesday my friends!

WILL YOU STILL NEED ME? WILL YOU STILL FEED ME? WHEN I'M EPISODE 64?
Shut that door; it's episode 64! I had the total pleasure of spending time with publishing and creative powerhouse Melanie Morris.
Melanie started her career in PR in the ‘80s landing her first job with Lynn Franks a.k.a the woman who inspired Edina Monsoon in Absolutely Fabulous. Franks had Gaultier, John Galliano and John Rocha on her books and the world she worked in was busy and buzzy. After learning the ropes there, Melanie went on to work for another top PR, Matthew Freud but when a recession hit England, she decided to return home to Dublin. She wasn't back long when she set up D-Side magazine and after many successful years as a publisher, was headhunted to Image magazine where she eventually became Editor in Chief.
Melanie has worked with so many creative people in Dublin and has given countless writers, photographers and designers their breaks. She is a dynamic force, always ten steps ahead of the competition. She now focuses her energies on her company Genius Ideas and is quite simply, genius. I LOVED chatting to her and I hope you get inspired after hearing her story.
Listen to the end to find out who next week's guest is ; ) WHAT A TEASE.
Until next Tuesday pals!

EPISODE 62 WITH SAOIRSE MCHUGH!
G-g-g-guess who's back in the housssse?!........eh me! I am back in the house and my very special first house guest iiiiiiis, Peter Casey slayer, Saoirse Mc Hugh!
Saoirse was a Green Party candidate for the Midlands-Northwest region in the European elections in May and while she was not elected, she caught the attention of the nation when she appeared on RTE's Prime Time.
Saoirse told me that she never planned on entering politics but after years of inaction from her local elected representatives, she decided to take matters into her own hands. We talked about her unease at putting herself in the public eye but how the election process has emboldened her. Prior to running in the elections, Saoirse had no social media and was living in bliss on Achill Island. Things have definitely changed for her. She's been described as an Irish Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez and if she decides to remain in politics, the future is looks brighter.
I am so pleased to have had the chance to chat with Saoirse and I hope you like it too.

EPISODE 59 AND FEELIN' FINE!Most 'normals' like to celebrate the new year on the 1st of January but real coolies like us know that the 12th of February is when it really gets going, OF COURSE. It is for that reason that I have chosen this day to release the first 2019 episode of The 80%. To kick off the new, real new year, I had to get someone completely brilliant and utterly charming for your teeny earbuds to enjoy and friends, I have done just that. May I present to you actor, writer, performer and star of the hugely successful Gift Grub on Today FM, Mr Mario Rosenstock. Readers, it was like looking in a mirror. Mario grew up in Waterford, home of the blaa but eventually made his way up to Dublin, home of Old Mr Brennan and never left. His first acting role was in Death of a Salesmen in secondary school and from then on he was bitten by the bug. By the time he got to Trinataaay Cawwwwledge (Trinity College) he acted his tiny tush off in several Player’s Productions and was soon signed to the Lisa Richard’s Agency, now one of Ireland’s biggest agencies. Before long he was cast in Glenroe as dashing Dr. David Hanlon, starred opposite Mia Farrow and played in The Abbey. However, it wasn’t until a small gig came up on Today FM, twenty years ago now, that brought Mario the success he still enjoys today. We talked about early burnout when he started Gift Grub, family tensions, the payoff that making people laugh brings and building your own raft to get through this little thing called life (Joan Bruton voice).I hope you enjoy our chat with Mario and if you do, leave a review! Good man/woman/person yourself.Until next time cuties, PEACE AND LOVE, PEACE AND LOVE. EO’MD. EPISODE 58? THAT'S REALLY GREAT!His name is Harmon. Colin Harmon. His mission? To turn the River Liffey into one big stream of coffee. To have free flat whites for the under fives by 2022 and to harness the power of a frothy cappuccino to fuel cars. This over-achieving Naas native currently has five establishments dotted across Dublin city centre, most recently Gertrude on Pearse St, and supplies his brand of 3fe coffee all over Ireland and the world. After studying B&L in college and getting a snazzy job in finance he ultimately decided that it was not for him. Colin thought about what he wanted to do with his life and took his passion for brewing coffee and opened up a whole new world to him. He’s even written a jaysusin’ book on running coffee shops, has taken part in the World Barista Championships a number of times and has even been on Six One News. I didn’t want to bring it up in the interview but unlike me, he’s probably never won a bronze 60m hurdle medal in the All-Irelands so I guess you can’t have it all. This is the last episode of The 80% for the Christmas break and I’ll be back in the New Year with even more fantastic, all-singing, all-dancing, wi-fi enabled guests plus hopefully more live shows! Thanks to all of you who have listened and supported the podcast this year (and always). You’re a great bunch and the most discerning sets of ears in the universe ; ) I hope you get a break over Christmas (I’ll be working for some of it so my sympathies to those of you who do too) but I am looking forward to transforming into a major sloth for a few days. PENNIES FROM HEAVEN! IT'S EPISODE 57!Young Phil Cawley grew up in Chapelizod, Dublin and was a little showman since he was knee high to a grass-chopper. He knew from 10 years old he wanted to work in radio and he has certainly made his dreams come true. His first break came after he took part in Larry Gogan's Just A Minute quiz and was soon working for 2FM. Stints in LMFM and DJ-ing all around the country for weddings, events and celebrations eventually saw him find his radio home in Today FM where he has been a ratings success for many years. Always a bright and positive voice on Irish radio, it was great to finally sit down and have a proper chat with Phil having worked alongside him for so many years. BUY ME A TWIX-IT'S EPISODE 56!Hello again! After a break of some weeks, the podcast has returned! Hurrah! To kick off this new run of episodes, I was lucky enough to speak to stellar writer, broadcaster, beauty maven and future Irish Oprah, Louise McSharry! (Will you let me be your Gayle, Louise and I can tag along to the Met Ball with you please-hmm?)We recorded the first ever live episode of The 80% in Mutiny Theatre, Dublin. Well, it was as if Boyzone themselves had landed in the room and twanged their Budweiser brace straps. The crowd were nuts with excitement. Some took off their tops. Others put more tops on and started doing laps of the room, filled with pure joy. They were all beside themselves and who can blame them? Such is the power of a LIVE podcast!Seriously though, doing the show in the theatre was so much fun and while I was nervous, I couldn't have asked for a better guest or a more encouraging audience. You were all so great. Thanks to everyone who came out in the cold that night, bought tickets and who have supported this podcast over the last year in particular. LET'S JIVE!IT'S EPISODE 55!!Hello 80%-er! My guest this week is artist and fashion designer Helen Cody. There is little Helen has not done is her extraordinary life. From landing at Vogue, Paris straight out of NCAD to working for the late fashion legend Azzedine Alaia, her story is dazzling and a lesson in hope and perseverance. Helen has rubbed sequinned shoulders with all the supermodels including Naomi and Helena, set up shop in New York, been spotted by Sarah Jessica Parker, dressed Saoirse Ronan and Amy Huberman and at 14 was Ireland’s roller disco skating champion. I failed to confirm this fact but it would be nice to imagine it’s true!Helen finished her final chemo for breast cancer last month and she spoke about her experience on the Late Late Show with Ryan Tubridy recently. There’s no place to go but up from the Late Late which is why Helen chose to chat to me next (I kid, I kid). October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so go and watch Helen talk to Ryan here about her story https://www.rte.ie/player/ie/show/the-late-late-show-68/10948801/ and go and check your boobs if you have them! https://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/testing/types/self_examHelen makes the most beautiful pieces of wearable art and if you want to get your hands on a piece of magic, she is holding an archive sale in her Harold’s Cross studio on Saturday (13th October) between 10am and 5pm. Her dresses are ideal for popping into Centra for some milk and a chicken fillet roll. See www.helencody.com for some glorious inspiration. It was a joy to spend time with Helen who was open, warm and very kind to take time out of her preparations to chat to EO'MD. SHUT THAT DOOR! IT'S EPISODE 54. This is a mini-episode, a whisper, a shadow, a fart in a hurricane. It's just a few minutes of sh*te-talk from me, EO'MD in lieu of a full offering this week. I am on 'annual leave' for a couple of weeks, which is the boner shrinking term for 'holidays' that THE MAN wants us to call it. LOOK AT ME! I'M EPISODE 53!Well, g'day mateys. It's me. Esther O'Moore Donopoo. I've been listening to the Australian real crime podcast Teacher's Pet so please imagine all of this in an Ozzie accent. I cannot stop! I will not stop! I am a sequin on a Kylie Minogue dress. I AM KYLIE!This week my guest is FORMER POPSTAR, writer and editor Laura Cunningham. She was once in a band marketed as Enya meets the Sugababes. After her pop dream vaporized, Laura started a whole new life that didn't involve touring with Il Divo and Katherine Jenkins but still pretty fantastic. In Laura I have met my speed talking twin-you've got to be quick to take us all in. I also think that I should have STFU sometimes and let Laura talk more...OH WELL. It was still a total pleasure talking to her. When life has handed him lemons, this man has made lemonade and drunk it from Lady Gaga's shoe at a party in L.A. STILL HAVIN' FUN AT EPISODE 51!Well hi there little ladies and gents and others. We find ourselves here again, at The 80% HQ waiting and hoping that Esther has found herself another stellar guest. The great news is...she/I have! This week I had the plaisir of spending time talking with writer, editor and synaesthete (this is the word you have to google) Aisling M. Keenan! I must have been caught in a medicated mind warp thanks to copious amounts of Exputex I had shovelled into my body, but I kept Aisling trapped talking to me for nearly two hours. If I look back on our time together, was she subtly trying to reach for her phone and send for help? I dunno but I kept her talking for tooooooo long. I am so grateful to her for taking time out of her day and for not calling the Gardai afterwards.I hope you like our chat and if you do, don't be shy letting people know on your social media or leaving a review. It helps spread the word and makes me feel like a million Bitcoins.Have a great week and see you next Tuesday m'cuties.E.xNow, if you have enjoyed this podcast please give me your email address for my newsletter/Esther-zine. EPISODE 50 AND FEELIN' NIFTY!I couldn’t have timed this week’s episode better if I tried and I didn't. Later this evening, the final of Ireland’s premier Lovely Girl competition, The Rose of Tralee takes place and the 2018 winner will be crowned with a load of Newbridge Silver forks and carriage clocks on her curly blow dried head. If you’re not Irish and have no idea what the Rose of Tralee competition is, this clip from Father Ted will give you an idea: https://youtu.be/89RwsGe-fSw You may also not know then, that Daithi O’Se has been it's presenter for almost ten years (a decade of the Rose-ary if you will. A bit of word play there from your hero a.k.a me) and he was born to do it. But what else can I say about Daithi O’Sé. Firstly his mum calls him David. Secondly, he is a VNM (very nice man) and was a pleasure to talk to. He told me that he planned on being a teacher but life happened and he went with the flow. Instead he has gone on to have an almost 20 year career in television and am I micro jealous? You're God darn right I am. We talked over frothy coffees in town a few weeks ago where he told me about his start on TG4 with Sile Seoige, his family and how he doesn’t let the wormhole of social media and opinion affect him. As long as he’s got Rita and his son Micheal, nothing else matters.DAITHI O’SE FOR PRESIDENT! But only once Miggledy gets a second term. Then VIVA DO’S, A VNM!Until next Tuesday my cuties...Peace and love, peace and love, EO'MDNow, if you have enjoyed this podcast you can repay me by giving me your email address for my newsletter/Esther-zine. PODCAST 49 AND FEELIN' FINE.What can I say, about Rick O'Shea?(#poetry) He has worked in Irish radio for almost 25 years and has achieved so much in that time. He wanted to be an accountant when he was younger but soon left that dream behind to pursue a life on-air. He's been there and done it all even winning Celebrity Mastermind in 2002. I won an All Ireland, bronze 60m hurdles medal when I was 13 so I can relate to Rick as a fellow winner. His book club is hugely popular and he is constantly working at book festivals, talking to authors and reading ceaselessly which sounds like a ruddy dream life.Rick and I sat under a tree outside RTE Radio Centre earlier this summer with the Fair City set in the background and it was wonderful to get to chat with him about his long and winding career. I am 80% happy for all of his success and I hope you enjoy it! EPISODE 49 AND THE WEATHER'S DIVINE!Well, what can I say about this week's guest...there are no words to adequately sum her up. She is dynamic, effervescent, without flaw and can reach things on high shelves (she's 5ft11. Readers, IT'S ME!HAHAHAHA! I am so funny! Not a standard episode this week my little friends but rather I'm just stopping by for a chat-ette. Normal services will resume very soon but with the good weather and just taking a mini-break for m'brain, podcasting has been moved to the freezer to rest for a time. ARTN'T YOU GLAD YOU DOWNLOADED THIS PODCAST?Of course you are because this week my dynamic and effervescent guest is ARTIST (see what I did) Leah Hewson! Leah is one of Irish Arts Review's top 8 artists under 40 https://www.irishartsreview.com/8-under-40-artists-to-watch/I am one of Irish Farts magazine top 8 fartists under 40 so we were off to a flying start. We met in her colourful studio on the South Quays on a sunny day in Dublin and it was a joy spending time finding out about how she works. Unfortunately for me, Leah was not dressed in an artists smock nor did she carry one of those big paint platters in her hand like you see in cartoons. I hid my disappointment well (my primary school speech and drama classes pay for themselves daily). Since graduating with an honours degree in fine art from IADT, Leah has had three solo exhibitions. Her 2017 show, Scintilla was the culmination of her six month residency at The Royal Hibernian Academy School.Leah's work is collected internationally and she has also sold pieces to the Office of Public Works, The Law Society of Ireland and most excitingly for Leah, the collection of Esther O'Moore Donohoe BSoc Sc (Hons). Esther plans to hang it in her bedroom in her new gaff. Currently, she is preparing for her fourth solo exhibition on the 12th of July in The Hillsboro Fine Art Gallery on Parnell Square. The proof is in the listening so go forth, put your headphones in and enjoy!http://www.leahhewson.comNow, why not treat yourself and follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/estheromd?lang=en I'M FUNNY!Instagram: www.instagram.com/80percentpodcast/ I TAKE NICE PICS.Website: estheromd.com/ I AM COOLEmail: 80percentpodcast@gmail.com I REPLY PROMPTLYSnapchat: estheromd I never Snapchat. THIS EPISODE IS REALLY REPEALING.Oh hi there 80%-ers. This week's fabulous guest is writer Sarah Griffin, author of Spare and Found Parts and Not Lost. She is currently working on Other Words for Smoke which is due out next year.In no particular order we talked about how she works, Ru Paul's Drag Race, developing a rock brand, Trabolgan, Phantom Thread and Pearse Street Library. Sarah was so easy to talk to and so open about the toll behind creating new work. To steal a Ru Paul Andre Charles catchphrase, the secret is, you've got to werrrrrk Covergirls! If you want to check in with Sarah each day as she hammers out her 2,000 words follow her here https://www.instagram.com/sarahgriffski/?hl=en Sarah is a delight and I loved chatting with her.Keep it fresh and sexy as always. I CAN'T COPE WITH HOW GREAT STEFANIE IS! GEDDIT!?I also can't cope with how bad the sound is this week and it's all my fault! There is a lot of background noise in this episode when I'm talking to Stefanie so apologies. I did my best to improve it but I'll have to file this one into the 'live and learn' category. Sorry if it's more difficult to listen to as a result! With that said...hello! Well the biggest news of the last week for me was....that THE PODCAST WAS MENTIONED ON THE TODAY SHOW WITH MAURA AND DAITHI. Be still my heart. Big thanks to @triona.ie for including me on her list of recommendations for the week. I felt like JLo. PLUS, I asked Daithi (first name terms now) if he'd do the p'cast and he said he would so let's hope it works out! Bit. of. fun. Riiiight? But first, this week's episode. My guest this episode needs no introduction having achieved huge success on stage and screen in Ireland. Stefanie Preissner is a writer in huge demand so it was a pleasure to spend some time with her and see how she ticks. She wanted to a Garda in her youth but thank GARDA she didn't (where's my prize). Had she spent her days policing people drinking cans of Dutch Gold in fields at the back of Centras or wire tapping her colleagues, we would have been denied great works such as Solpadeine is my Boyfriend, Can't Cope, Won't Cope or experience her GIF-fy reactions on RTE's Cutting Edge.So unhook your bra, or put one on, make some tea and enjoy my chat with Ms. Stefanie Preissner.NEW EPISODES EVERY TUESDAY so subscribe and you won't miss out mates.YOU'RE DOING GREAT!E.xNow, why not treat yourself and follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/estheromd?lang=en I'M A FUNNY WOMAN!Instagram: www.instagram.com/80percentpodcast/Website: estheromd.com/Email: 80percentpodcast@gmail.comSnapchat: estheromd I never Snapchat. 'SUCCESS IS A MATTRESS TOPPER'Well hi there! This week's chat is a long un and, if I do say so, a good un too. My guest this week is the Notorious MAC a.k.a Rosemary MacCabe. Known for her opinionated blog posts and strong opinions, Rosemary is the ultimate slash/slasher. She has written for many, many publications including The Irish Times. She has her own very successful blog (www.rosemarymaccabe.com), You Tube channel, is a certified personal trainer and a popular Instagramer (she went to Instagram University for three long years to get her Bachelor of Filters. She's got all bases covered honey! We talked about how Rosemary got started as a writer and her eventual metamorphosis into a card carrying Media Personality™. She explains how she opted to take some time out of public life last year when the online abuse she received spilled over into real life. Something had to give and it was largely her presence online that got cut. We also talked taking control of your finances and how empowering that can be (see Ellen Pompeo article linked below) to happiness being a warm mattress topper. About forty minutes in, someone walks in with a tray full of cutlery which you may hear crashing about in the background. Please be assured that no spoons were damaged in the making of this podcast. Make sure you like, subscribe, share the link on your social medias, buy the podcast a cake and tell it that you love it. Okay? Great. YOU DOWN WITH MO'C? YEAH YOU KNOW ME!Oh hi! Your hair looks amaaaazing! This week I chatted with TV3 and Today FM Queen, Muireann O’Connell! We talked about all the important stuff such as her love of Nadine Coyle from Girls Aloud (I’ve put a link below of my friend Ruth doing a great impression of her) her love of My So Called Life and her love of The 80% podcast, the greatest podcast in all the land. Pedantic Pats will say ‘I’ve listened back to this episode and I’m certain Muireann never says she loves your podcast’. Be that as it may, I have chosen to believe she does. I'VE BECOME A MOTHER!To another podcast baby!As I survey my podcast nursery and look at all my babies running around I’m lit up. There’s my little Claire Balding playing with her dolls hair. Amy Hubles, building a cinema with Lego. Ian Dempsey, on the Fisher Price CD player doing a little disco for James Kavanagh and Doireann Garrihy in their playpen. My newest baby is always my favourite and this week I’ll be giving the most love and attention to…Triona McCarthy! Writer with the Sunday Indo, beauty expert and all round madser. I had a sheet of questions for Triona but we went all over the place. A sandwich gets delivered about 5 minutes in and we had to pause between talking to eat a chicken wrap and chips.Triona has been there, done that and bought the designer T-shirt. She was so much fun. We talked vomiting, travelling with the Jimmy Choo, Michael Flatley and disgracing herself in Athens in front of a world famous rock band. She's a bloody riot mates. Picture it: me typing this little blurb. My nail-bitten fingers tapping the keys like mini flesh hammers; tap-tap-tap. Now picture me typing where those hammers have a Light Tan™. I have just come back from a two week sloth fest in the sun and have sun-damage/tan as my proof. I decided to go away with my number one best friend for a recharge of the batteries. ‘Who’s your best friend Esther? Your lover?’ No. It is me. I am my best friend. I went away on my Tobler and I focking loved it. My intentions were to do some editing, write, do the splits at sunrise and eat lotus leaves dipped in honey daily. In reality I turned into a complete holiday sloth who greased herself up like a rasher every day and cooked herself in the sun whilst reading, listening to podcasts and Ru Paul songs (Hey Kitty Girl is my current favourite). If you’re in the market for book recommendations, I put a list together on the podcast Insta page so go and have a look: https://www.instagram.com/p/BhbePqnjcff/?taken-by=80percentpodcastWhen I wasn’t lying in the sun baking like a camembert cheese, I was also barely speaking to any other human being that approached me so deep was I in my self-imposed isolation. In addition, I would take lunch solo, in front of the TV watching uplifting shows such as ‘Can’t Pay? We’ll Take It Away’ on Channel 5, a show that follows bailiffs around England repossessing items from people who are heavily in debt. Nothing says ‘relaxing holiday’ more than debt recovery. I had planned to edit the interview I recorded for this episode while I was away but I just didn’t, couldn’t, wasn’t bothered so in place of a guest this week, it’s me talking sh*te for seven minutes. HAIR-Y UP AND PLAY THIS WEEK'S EPISODE! This week I had the pleasure of talking to yet another superstar of Snapchat Clare Fulham a.k.a Claire Balding! Claire came to public attention when she took it all off, well, her wig, and spoke honestly and directly about the experience of losing her hair. The future is bright for Ms. Fulham and I've no doubt that she will do great things in the future. Today Marino Green, tomorrow THE WORRRRLD. G'wan Claire with the Hair. If you’re a long-time listener and haven’t left a review, well, what are you waiting for? Go to iTunes, Soundcloud or Stitcher and leave a few lines. Example: 'Having listened to Esther's podcast, I now divide my life into two parts. B.P (Before Podcast) and A.P (After Podcast). How have I wasted my life up to this point by not subscribing!' Y'know, something subtle...; ) NEW EPISODES EVERY TUESDAY! huge snow storms permitting Follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/estheromd?lang=en Instagram: www.instagram.com/80percentpodcast/ Website: estheromd.com/ Email: 80percentpodcast@gmail.com Snapchat: estheromd Stitcher: www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-80-w…r-omoore-donohoe

‘I’LL HAVE WHAT SHE’S HAVING’ WHEN ESTHER MET CAROLINE.Well, howdy doody. This week my cartwheelin’ and high achievin’ guest is best selling writer, Caroline Foran. Caroline’s first book, ‘Owning it: Your Bullshit Free Guide to Dealing with Anxiety’ was on the best seller list for 16 WEEKS! SIXTEEN WEEEEEKS-Hell-urrrr! Her next book, ‘The Confidence Kit’ is out in May of this year and no doubt, it will be just as successful as her debut. SOUND THE JEALOUSY KLAXON! JK of course. We talked about many things including Caroline being a natural leader, 'When Harry Met Sally', overcoming her debilitating anxiety and writing an incredibly successful book and lots more besides. She’s ‘your basic nightmare’ (this is another quote from ‘When Harry Met Sally’ before anyone loses their mind. Caroline was a dream). If you’re a long-time listener and haven’t left a review, well, what are you waiting for? Go to iTunes, Soundcloud or Stitcher and leave a few lines. Y’know, something simple like. ‘This podcast has completely changed my life’ or ‘Esther has no flaws and the voice of a nightingale drinking honey’. Something along those lines. If that’s too much, ‘good’ will also do very nicely.A new episode will be up next Tuesday so until then, have a great week my cutie patooties. OH MY GOD, WHAT A COMPLETE-LY GREAT EPISODE!This week my extraordinary guest is writer, not MMA fighter, Sarah Breen, co-author of the number one smash hit selling book, Oh My God, What a Complete Aisling. We talked shite, telling the Olsen twins apart and how to write a mega-successful best-selling book so we can all copy them. If you haven't read the book yet, go and get a copy. You will laugh and you may even shed a little tear. THE 21ST EPISODE OF THE PODCAST! IT CAN NOW DRINK LEGALLY IN AMERICA!Alison Canavan started modeling in the supermodel era of Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington and was on a plane three to four times a week. She booked jobs all over the world and moved to New York in her twenties. Her life was a privileged one. She made great money and partied with famous faces but it was all smoke and mirrors. Alison used alcohol to avoid her feelings and was caught in a cycle of addiction. However, she worked out the way she was doing things wasn't good for her body or mind and in 2018, things couldn't be more different. With great effort and focus, she has created a brand new life for herself and her son James. I met Alison just before Christmas and we talked about what is means to be kind to yourself and becoming more compassionate. She was a joy and I hope, as always, you love it. Until the next episode (every Tuesday) my cutie pies, have a great week!Follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/estheromd?lang=enInstagram: www.instagram.com/80percentpodcast/Website: estheromd.com/Email: 80percentpodcast@gmail.comSnapchat: estheromdStitcher: www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-80-w…r-omoore-donohoeSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-80-with-esther-omoore-donohoe.

NEW YEAR, NEW ME, NEW EPISODE!Well, new year, new episode but same me (i.e total cutie pie/sloth). I hope you all had a great winter/Christmas/Hanukkah (Monica) and shoved your faces full of chocolate and mince pies like gloopy little chompers. But now, a year of wonder, plans and 3-in1 trays lies ahead. The first guest of this new year is my AA Roadwatch inspiration, the dynamic and effervescent Lorraine Keane Devlin. Lorraine and I are practically career twins. We have both worked for AA Roadwatch, broadcast with Ian Dempsey and have stunning double barrel names. Alas for me, that is where the similarities end. Lorraine parlayed a morning traffic reporting slot on 2FM into an incredibly successful and lasting career. She’s even met the Queen of England and a week before Christmas, she met me, EO’MD, the Queen of Hearts and The 80% podcast. Don’t forget to like and subscribe The 80% on iTunes, Soundcloud and Stitcher + it would help so much if you leave a review too! Reviews and downloads push the podcast up the charts and I can rule the podcast school. GOD BLESS US EVERYONE.Well, here we are now. December. Christmas. Winter. Whatever celebration you celebrate. We made it intact with all of our ears still working so we can listen to The 80% whenever we want; lucky us. This is just a little message from me to you to say thank you so much for listening and all your support this year. I really appreciate it and I am so thrilled at how the p'cast has grown over the year thanks to Y.O.U. I am writing this on the 21st of December, the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year. From today on, the days get longer and we move into the lighter and brighter days. This is my wish for you all my little 80%-ers, that wherever you are and however your year has been, brighter days are ahead. And selection boxes. And roast potatoes. Mmmmmm. Potatoes. Have a great Christmas if that is what you are into and if you're not, have a great December. See you in January 2018 when I emerge from my slothful hibernation. Who knows what lies ahead! THE PODCAST CAN NOW BUY ITSELF A PINT; IT'S EPISODE 18!Chupi Sweetman-Durney was my magical (a favourite word of hers) guest this week and what a gem. Now, she's an multi-award winning, owner and creative director of Chupi, her jewellery company but she has worn many different hats. From writing a best selling cookbook in her teens to being scouted by Topshop at just 21 where she worked for 13 years, Chupi has always been creatively restless and brave. Her life sounds like a dream, right? But we all know it takes a long time to become an overnight success which Chupi talks about. She was incredibly busy when we met so I am very grateful she took time out of her day to talk to me, I mean, IT'S CHRISTMAS ESTHER! NO TIME FOR PODCASTS LADY! Thankfully she obliged me and I hope you enjoy it.Don't forget to like and subscribe to the podcast if you enjoyed it and leave us a review on iTunes if you can (this is only possible via your desktop or laptop I think). LIFE IS BUT A DREAM, LIKE THIS EPISODE & EAST 17. (IT'S EPISODE 17).Ellen Kavanagh Jones and I have a lot in common being that we are both CEOs. I am CEO of The 80% podcast empire (net worth: zero euro) and Ellen is CEO, and creator, of award-winning wax brand and salon Waxperts. Hmmmm. So much in common...eh...Ellen is incredibly successful but it hasn’t always been easy which she talked candidly to me about. She started her business in 2008 at the start of the recession (a great time to start a business) and in under ten years Ellen, along with her best friend and business partner Trish, have built their company into a solid gold brand. Ellen and Trish were a dream and they even gave me a Waxperts advent calendar as I left. I had hoped there would be a tiny amount of wax behind each door and I could have gathered them all, heated them up on Christmas Eve and given myself a festive leg wax. Unfortunately, there’s just plain old chocolate inside them; they missed a trick there. Hey, there's always next year. PEACHES AND CREAM: EPISODE SWEET 16!Episode sweet sixteen, and never been kissed...This week my scrumtrulecent wonder guest was Ellie Balfe. Former make up artist, turned business owner, turned blogger, writer, editor and the very foncy sounding Digital Director of Image Magazine, Ellie has been there, done that and brought out the branded make-up brushes. Did she wear a hat and cape as Digital Director? Sadly, I never thought to ask in the moment but let's imagine she did. Ellie talked openly and honestly to me about her career and about how life sometimes bursts into the party and sh*ts in the trifle. What can you do but get on with it mates (and bin the trifle; don't try and eat around it). P.S Please share the link or give it a like if you..like it! EPISODE 15; ONLY HEARD, NEVER SEEN.This week's solid gold guest is former DJ, author and now owner and designer of the very cool Edge Only jewellery company, Jenny Huston! All of Jenny's pieces are ethically made and finished here in Ireland and are worn by the likes of Angela Scanlon and the fragrant Aisling Bea. Her work has also featured in The Sunday Times Style magazine, The Guardian Weekend, Marie Claire and Tatler to name but a few. Now, she can add The 80% podcast to that esteemed list. Jenny is thrilled. Sit back, relax and enjoy Jenny's JOURNEY from Canadialand to Ireland. Don't be fooled by the rocks that she got. EPISODE 14 AND NEVER BEEN KISSED!Jill & Gill are illustrator Jill Deering and printmaker Gillian Henderson, artists and a daring design duo who have done projects and commissions for James Vincent McMorrow, Currabinny and the Repeal project to name but a few. They are also about to launch an apparel line featuring their wildly popular print of the iconic Iris Apfel. Will I appear on one of their tote bags in the future? UNLUCKY FOR SOME..IT'S EPISODE THIRTEEN!This week I chatted with the very lovely Darren Kennedy who is a designing, writing, styling, rhythm dancer. Darren spoke to me about some of the 8,000,000 jobs he has had along the way and how he has built his career one step at a time. Sometimes he didn't know where has was stepping to next, but he kept going and grabbed opportunities that arose instead of letting them drift by. He was a hot stepper. The most important thing I took from my chat with Darren however, was that he liked my ensemble, because at the end of the day, it's all about me. AM I RIGHT! I'm not. I'm joking. It's all about YOU and I hope you like m'talk with DK. DON'T LEAVE THIS ON YOUR SHELVES!IT'S EPISODE TWELVES!On the podcast this week, my guest was Jeanne Mahony. Jeanne Who Esther? Jeanne Mahony! She's not a TV watcher person on Googlebox, or a writer or a doggy couture designer....she's a bloody brewer and business woman. DON'T LEAVE THIS EPISODE ON SOME SHELVES! STONE THE CROWS! IT'S EPISODE TWELVE!These rhymes are getting harder to write as the numbers escalate. Right now, the podcast is a tweenager and it's all 'Fenty Beauty this, Kylie Lipkit that, Shawn Mendes the other'. But I digress! This week my supersonic guest was author, columnist and Rice Krispie enthusiast, Sophie White. You may be familiar with Sophie's teeny tiny face as it appears above her column, The Domestic, each Sunday in LIFE magazine for the Sunday Independent. Now, this Sunday when you are browsing the mag, you can stop on Sophie's page, pause and say 'Hello tiny Sophie! I know what you sound like now.' My chat with SW wandered from hot button topics such 'what's your chipper order' and 'rice krispie penis cakes; discuss' to the more serious subject of Sophie's nervous breakdown in 2007 and the subsequent work it took to get better. Oh it's all here folks. Sophie details, with great humour and warmth, a very dark period in her life and I could have talked to her all afternoon. COULD THIS BE HEAVEN? IT'S EPISODE ELEVEN!Well hello. This week I had a long chat with broadcaster, designer, producer, documentary maker and campaigner Brendan Courtney. Brendan was so generous with his time and it was a pleasure to talk to him about the long and winding road of his life and career so far. The conversation went from Carly Simon, to giving up drink, to Boy George, dealing with stress and everything in between. Brendan was warm, wise and wonderful and I hope you enjoy our little talk. COME AGAIN!? IT'S EPISODE TEN!After a mere three and half month summer break, The 80% podcast is back! I'm more tanned than I was back in June but I'm still as resentful of the success and achievements of others. This week my guest is Irish radio superman, Ian 'Iano' Dempsey, presenter of Ireland's most popular breakfast show on 100-102 Today FM. I grew up listening to Iano each morning as I ate my Rice Krispies before school. Now, I am lucky enough to talk to him most mornings in my role as ace traffic reporter on his show. He can't bloody believe his luck!We talked about all sorts including Bono, Ballymun, being a boot boy and a summer in D'Arcy. Saucy!I was a bit rusty after the break so please forgive me talking faster than usual and some dodgy edits but I will do better! I hope you're doing great wherever you are listening to this. IT'S NOT A CRIME, JUST EPISODE NINE! My high-kicking, whirling dervish of a guest this week is Today FM broadcasting Canadian, Alison Curtis. Did I ask her if she watched the Real Housewives of Toronto and Vancouver as I have? I did not. Did I ask her if she knew Justin Trudeau or Justin Bieber. I did not. What did I ask her then? I asked her how she has managed to stay on-air for over 17 years, her drumming skills, women on air and lots more besides. It was a dream to chat to Alison and I hope you enjoy it too. HATERS GON' HATE. IT'S EPISODE EIGHT!This week, my guest on The 80% was my one time colleague, the awesomely talented and funny Today FM broadcaster, Louise Duffy. As a tiny child in Crossmolina, Mayo, she used to record little programmes on a portable radio AND LOOK AT HER NOW!There are many reasons to resent Louise's success. She has her own show, Lost in Music on Today FM which airs weekdays 7-9pm. You ran a vurrry noice fashion and music website womenswearstory.com. She has a wardrobe that would give Carrie Bradshaw a run for its money and like Carrie, she's had her pic on the side of a bus promoting PMS. Every woman's dream.I like Louise a lot and it was great to hear her career story. In this episode we talked about, in no particular order: my bloody shin, her spin-class DISASTER and dungarees. If you enjoy my chat with Louise, please subscribe on iTunes, Soundcloud or Stitcher and leave a review, love heart or five star rating. I would really appreciate it! At the same time, he and his life and business partner William Murray, are building their Currabinny brand with the goal of opening a cafe in 2018. JUMPIN' JOLLICKERS, I WAS ON ME HOLLIERS! Which is why there was no podcast uploaded last Tuesday. I had it edited and ready to upload ahead of time for when I was away but the wifi was so bad where I was, I couldn't do it mates. I'm sure you were all devo but managed to somehow get on with your lives regardless. I edited this chat the night before I went off on me jolls when I was trying to pack and do a million other things hence I sound a bit weary in the intro and outro. I will be back to my fountain of dynamic effervescence next week I'm sure. THIS WEEK, I am chatting with broadcaster, writer and prolific Zara shopper, Rebecca Horan. No doubt you have heard Rebecca's lovely voice reading the news on Today FM, 98FM, Lyric FM and many other FMs I cannot recall at this moment in time. You may have also seen her on TV3 contributing on Ireland AM and the artist formally known as Midday, now known as Elaine. Currently, she works as digital editor and presenter for http://www.Extra.ie as well as doing a thousand other things. She can drop the word 'vagina' into a sentence apropos of nothing, more than any other human I have ever met and I like her all the more for it. She's cool and no fool so listen to this, it's like mini-career school. LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE PLEASE! SAINTS ALIVE! EPISODE FIVE! I had the pleasure of chatting with Xpose O.G Aisling O'Loughlin for this week's The 80%. YOU WANTED MORE; HERE'S EPISODE FOUR! This week I was lucky enough to speak with designer, tech and social entrepreneur, author, broadcaster and (having watched her on TV3's The Restaurant) incredible cook, Sonya Lennon! Sonya wears many different (stylish) hats and seems to do so with the greatest of ease. If every school had a career guidance teacher like Sonya, we'd all be sorted. She is assured and hard working and, if you're looking for some motivation, then hearing Sonya talk about all the things she has achieved, may just be what you need.If you liked our chat, please subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Soundcloud or Stitcher and new episodes will wing their way to you as soon as they are uploaded every Tuesday. UPDATE: I first uploaded this podcast on the 28th of October but the volumes levels were a bit off. I've fixed the sound on this version of my chat with Chris and hopefully it has improved it. I hope you enjoy it. Chris is greaaaaaat!**********Last week Chris Judge passed his driving test and then spoke to me for my humble podcast. He is still pinching himself. Chris is the creator of 'The Lonely Beast' book which was described by the New York Times as "a beautifully illustrated and humorous picture book". He has also written and illustrated 'The Brave Beast' (winner of the Irish Children's Book of the Year Award), 'The Great Explorer' and 'TIN'. Recently, he illustrated 'Danger is Everywhere' by comedian and fellow beard owner David O'Doherty and created the cover for Roddy Doyle's new children's book 'Brilliant'.His work has also been featured in the Irish Times, numerous billboards around Ireland and even on the N7/Naas Rd at Newlands Cross (HELLO GLAMOUR!). In addition to all of these amazing achievements, in a previous life, Chris also used to be in The Chalets and won 'Best new band' at the Meteor Music Awards in 2005. What a world, eh?Chris Judge, I am 80% happy for you.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-80-with-esther-omoore-donohoe.

John Colleary is a writer and comedian based in Dublin. Here are the some of the reasons why I am 80% happy for his success. 1. He is one of the stars and co-writers of the thrice IFTA nominated The Savage Eye. 2. He has gigged with some of Ireland's best stand-ups including Des Bishop, Jason Byrne and David Mc Savage.3. He is from Sligo, home to the best town in Ireland, Ballymote. He also knows Kian Egan's (Westlife) brother. John dreams of one day being rich and famous enough to purchase a Swarovski crystal hi-vis vest. No doubt he will achieve this dream. TO JOHN! This was one of the first 'interviews' I did in 2013 with brilliant comedian Eleanor Tiernan. Eleanor is one of the stars and writers of Irish Pictorial Weekly on RTE which you should go and look for on You Tube. She loved doing this podcast with me and told me it was only a matter of time before Angelina Jolie would get in touch and want to adopt me for being such a legend. In this episode, we talk about writing, de comedy and I say 'yeah, yeah, yeah' a lot. (not true).Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-80-with-esther-omoore-donohoe.
