The Whaley House and Preston Castle are two of the most haunted locations in California, with a rich history and a reputation for paranormal activity. The Whaley House, located in San Diego, is a historic home turned museum that is believed to be haunted by the spirits of its former residents, while the Preston Castle is a former reform school in Ione that is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of its former inmates. Both locations offer a fascinating glimpse into California's past and the ghosts that are said to linger within their walls.

There’s an old bridge outside of Meridian, Mississippi, that stopped carrying traffic and started creating legends. The most well-known of which being that of Stuckey Dalton of the infamous Dalton Gang. Legend has it that Stuckey used the bridge to lure unsuspecting travelers to their deaths.

There’s just something about bridges, right? I don’t know about you, but I have a fear of bridges. Long bridges, tall bridges, covered bridges, they all seem to be a bit well uncertain to me. Like I wasn’t meant to cross them.

When Loretta Lynn wrote these heartbreaking lyrics in 1963 she was mourning the death of her best friend Patsy Cline. At the time, the coal miner’s daughter had just moved into an actual haunted house called Hurricane Mills Mansion. Apparently the 19th century home is full of ghosts.

Sleep paralysis.
It is a terrifying condition that can happen to anyone.
You are aware of what’s going on around you but unable to move or speak. Which is frightening in itself, but often the person experiencing the paralysis is also dealing with terrifying visual and audible hallucinations in a sense, their nightmare comes to life and they can’t do anything about it.
In the South, sleep paralysis is attributed to one creature who makes their home down in the bayous of Louisiana.

These words were written on a note tucked in a bible belonging to Rhonda Belle Martin. The bible had been taken from her cold dead hands as she sat slumped in the Alabama Electric chair in 1957. Rhonda was being executed for murdering her fourth husband, Claude C. Martin, but the innocent looking 50 something year old lady openly admitted to killing all three of her daughters, two of her husbands, and her mother.

Two Houston police officers got way more than they bargained for when responding to a welfare check call on June 23, 1965. The owners of the home at 1815 Driscoll Street were nowhere to be found as police kicked their door in and searched the house.
One of the officers felt the need to open the refrigerator, and it’s a good thing he did, because that’s where they found the homeowners Fred and Edwina Rogers in a case that has come to be known as the Ice Box Murders.

I just have one episode this week for you because I took full advantage of my holiday weekend.
North Carolina has its fair share of ghost stories, unexplained phenomena, and hauntings. One of the creepiest in my opinion comes from Jamestown, in Guilford County.
Lydia Jone’s prom night came to an abrupt end when her date lost control on a sharp curve and crashed leaving Lydia to pry herself out of the car, her date was killed instantly.
Desperate to find help, Lydia limped down the highway in the pouring rain in her blood soaked prom dress, trying to convince passing motorists to stop. Lydia Jones died soon after the wreck and to this day, legend has it that on a rainy night beneath the full moon, you will see Lydia trying to flag down a ride.

Robert Eugene Otto was just a young boy in the early 1900s. Known simply as Gene to his friends and family, the young boy received a very odd straw-filled doll from the family’s housekeeper.
The doll was about the same size as Gene and quickly became a favorite toy of the boy. He even named it Robert after himself. It didn’t take long though, for those closest to Gene to see the evil that lived within Robert the doll.

Guiding ships along the coast as early as 1874, the St. Augustine lighthouse is considered the oldest brick structure in the historic Florida city. Today thousands of visitors flock to this beautiful beacon, myself included to take in its rich history and amazing views.

The St. James Hotel in Selma Alabama is one of the oldest buildings in the state. Built in 1837, the hotel was first used by soldiers in the Civil war as an outpost.
After the war, the St. James became headquarters for the notorious outlaw, Jesse James and his gang of outlaws.
And legend has it, Mr. James never checked out.

Stepping through the front doors of the Windsor Hotel in the heart of Downtown Americus, makes you feel like you are stepping through time.
The wood floors creak, the victorian chandeliers shine a soft glow on the stylish vintage furniture, and the subjects of the old pictures on the walls stare right back at as you walk the halls to your room.
Several employees and visitors have come and gone since the business opened up in 1892, but guests and staff will tell you there's at least three souls that are there to stay.

In White Bluff, Tennessee locals tell campfire tales about a hulking, terrifying alabaster colored creature called the, "White Screamer." The Legend claims that an elderly couple who lived in the woods of the white bluffs hid their young daughter in the basement due to her physical deformity.
When she grew old enough, the daughter managed to escape, killing her parents and fleeing into the woods. Having never learned to speak, the creature was only able to scream with abandon into the night.

Elmer McCurdy was quite a man. Believed by most in Oklahoma to have been a drunk, outlaw, and a member of a notorioulsy incompetent gang who tried to terroize the area. But by all accounts, Elmer should have been forgotten after he was killed during a shootout in 1911. But Muccurdy became famous due to what happened after his death.

In 1863 one of the bloodiest battles of the civil war took place on the Chickamauga battlefield. This storied piece of land is visited today by thousands of sight seers, but the field is also home to a monster known as Old Green Eyes.
The creature is said to possibly be a Confederate soldier whose head was blown off during the battle. His spectral head floating around the battlefield, searching for his missing body.

All of us have heard the urban legend of the hook man. You know, the one that always starts out with some couple seeking out a dark,secluded spot where they can disregard their virtue.
Then the duwop soundtrack of lovers lane is interrupted by radio static and a frantic announcer proclaiming an escaped mental patient with an appetite for murder and a hook for a hand is loose in the area.
There are a few variations on what happens next, but usually the couple makes it home to find a bloody hook stuck in one of the car doors.
This classic urban legend has been passed down for decades, but it had to start somewhere, right?

A pale pink four story house sits unassumingly on the corner of Orleans and Dauphin Street. This greek revival style home takes up residents in the very heart of the French Quarter with it’s black wrought iron balconies. Vicksburg Mississippis is a city filled with ghosts — metaphorically and some would also say literally.
Kuhn Memorial State Hospital lurks, darkly, in an overgrown area between downtown Vicksburg and the Vicksburg National Military Park.

In the 1920’s the city of Birmingham Alabama was a bit of a lawless place. Miners, gamblers, saloons, and brothels were everywhere and shoot-outs were as common as dirt.
During this period of the magic city's history, a man called Henry the Hacker and his axe syndicate strolled into town. The name aptly described this bloody butcher and his crew who was said to be responsible for several brutal murders between 1919 and 1924.

The Legare’s were a prominent South Carolianian family in the 1800’s. They owned a few homes on the mainland and also on nearby Edisto island.
Their daughter, Julia, got very sick and eventually passed away due to her illness. She was laid to rest in the family’s mausoleum.
But Years later, when another member of the Legare family died. The family opened up the tomb to find that something was amiss.

A radiologist from German descent, who wasn’t even a real count) was known to boast of his nine university degrees, his time as a submarine captain, and of course an accomplished inventor. But the truth was, he was a psychopath who had abandoned his wife and children to work in the United States Marine Hospital in Key West, Florida. Six months into his tour of the us and Canada, British citizen Charles Mckay saw the elegant steamship Eliza Battle moored on a landing along the Tombigbee River near Mobile Alabama. Its size and grandeur made a strong impression on McKay. That's why, just a few days later, he was shocked to learn that the elegant steamer had burned, killing almost all of the passengers and crew in the inferno.

The Grove Park Inn in Asheville North Carolina is a woodsy hotel and a favorite of tourists, especially for its extravagant Christmas decorating and Gingerbread House Competition. The history, however, is anything but cookie-cutter.

In 1587, an English settlement was established on an island off the coast of what is now known as North Carolina. Queen Elizabeth was in the process of attempting to stake a claim in the New World.
But just three years later, the entire colony and its hundred-plus inhabitants disappeared without a trace. The only clue being the word “Croatoan” carved into a single wooden post.

It is said that the spirit of a woman appears over Pikeville, Kentucky and her story has become such a part of the towns history and surrounding Pike County, that students at nearby Pikeville College can tell you a dozen different versions of how this woman who haunts the town died, how she lived and how she makes her presence known in the local graveyard.
Most of these small town stories meant to give locals a fun scare aren’t true. The truth is actually much more frightening.

Built in 1910, the Martin House is a beautiful southern home nestled in the bay of Panama City Florida. Complete with a vast wrap around porch, the postcard worthy home is framed with large oaks covered in spanish moss.
But don’t be fooled by the homes quaint grandeur, this turn of the century farmhouse hides a malevolent haunting stemming from the brutal murder suicide of the entire Martin family.

The Little Witch of Pilot’s Knob is a strange and scary legend about a young girl who was buried in a concrete grave in Marion, Kentucky. Years ago, back in 1916, a woman named Mary Louise Ford and her six year old daughter, Mary Ellen Ford, were living in Pilot’s Knob.
Both mother and daughter were accused of being witches after a few villagers experienced some bad luck and burned them at the stake.

The story of the "Red Lady" of Huntingdon College in Montgomery Alabama has changed somewhat over the decades. What was once a benevolent and beautiful Lady in Red, who politely roamed a quiet residence hall at the old college transformed over the years to become a rather vindictive apparition who evokes fear and apprehension from those she comes in contact with.

They say that there’s a lonely stretch of Nash road in Columbus Mississippi that is home to a sad and terrifying tale.First, she appears at the end of the road.A woman with a decaying leg crudely attached to her body. Then she charges the vehicle, banging loudly on the roof of the car. She haunts the minds of young children and entices teenagers to test their bravery on what locals call Donkey Lady Bridge. In 1816 a mysterious couple appeared in Alexandria, Virginia and quickly isolated themselves in a room at Gadsby’s Tavern without a word to anyone but the tavern innkeeper. Speculation on their identities continues to this day, fueled by the eerie inscription on the woman’s tombstone: “To the memory of the Female Stranger…”

For more than a century, Chapel Hill has been known as the site of a very active ghost light. Many claim that if you stand between the rails facing North, a glowing orb of light appears out of nowhere. According to legend, in 1937, radio personality and inventor Norman G. Baker bought the hotel and repurposed it as a hospital. There, he treated cancer patients with homemade remedies and elixirs.
Unfortunately, Norman G. Baker lacked any training of any kind in the medical field and allegedly he is responsible for hundreds of deaths. The innocent lives lost by Norman Baker’s wicked scheme are now said to haunt the rooms of the 1886 Cresecent Hotel.

The story of Bellamy Bridge is probably one of Florida's most famous ghost stories. It is centered around an old steel frame bridge that spans the Chipola River in the swamps north of Marianna, located in the panhandle. Legend has it that the ghost of Elizabeth Jane Bellamy has been haunting it for over 150 years.
