What Is A Well-Regulated Militia?

Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. The Second Amendment protects the right of the American people to keep and bear arms - that means the right to own guns and carry them around because a well-regulated militia is necessary for the security of a free State. So what is a militia? At the time of the Founding, every able-bodied man in every State was automatically considered a member of the State’s militia. Their right to keep and bear arms was protected so that, if necessary, they could quickly form a military force if called on by the magistrates. Because they were all armed, they each brought their own weapons to the parade grounds. And by well-regulated, the Founders meant that these were not self-appointed militias like we have today, but militias trained under the leadership of the civil authorities in their states. The Founders knew what they were doing - these were the Minutemen who gave us our freedom.
