James Black started DJing back in 1999 after his love of music began to take part in his social life. He has DJ'd across London (Ministry of Sound / Turnmills / 414 / Union @ Vauxhall / Queen of Hoxton / UCL Socials), Berkshire (House of Bamboo / Back2Love/ Zeus / Mix Bar / Facebar / Dirty Beat Radio), Brighton (Tekbeat / Trickstar Radio / Code South FM / Concorde2/ The Volks/ Divino's Wine Bar/ Bauwow / The Arch/ Hideout / Sticky Mikes Frog Bar), Ibiza (Club Kancela) and Kent (Club Class / River Bar / Cohesion resident / Classic Beats resident) and presents 'Tekbeat' monthly on Brighton based dance station 'Decadance Radio' as well as a periodic Tekbeat podcast s available on Soundcloud, Mixcloud and iTunes.
James' musical love stemmed from mid-90's dance music which lead into the Trance explosion of 1999-2003, since then James has played many styles of music to fit the needs of the venue and his own expression - Funky House, Techno, Trance, Hard House, Psy-Trance and even Heavy Metal, but he has found his home within the realms of Techno and Trance.
James is a resident DJ for London Techno night 'Dark Matter,' which is a night held at Union in Vauxhall, and can be found popping up at events across the country as well as a regular figure in the livestreaming world.
James Black also produces music under 'James Black Presents', with releases on Discover Records, Stick Up Music, Pure Dope Digital, Transportal, D-Day Recordings and D'amor, and has had support from Amber D and Dave Pearce to name a but a few.

The Prodigy - Warriors Dance (James Black 2020 Remix)
My take on the iconic classic 'Warrior's Dance'.. Was lucky to see The Prodigy live a few times, and I feel blessed to have shared that experience. Thankyou <3 Their names are set in stone as absolute pioneers of the UK Rave scene, with a legacy to last a thousand jilted generations.
Redefining a classic is never easy, but is always a thoroughly enjoyable process. The original was far more uplifting, but for this remix, I focused on a minor chord style progression and emphasised string parts, giving it a whole new feel for 2020.

We at Tekbeat have been tragically informed of the closure of Brixton's Club 414. Club 414 was a trance institution, a trance bolthole in south London. It had a loyal following, a close family atmosphere and is responsible for many many clubbers over its 30 year history.
I was lucky enough to DJ at Club 414 frequently for promoters of TranceLucid and Brixton Trance Underground, all I can say is thankyou from the bottom of my heart for the memories, and all the best to the management for all the good memories there.

As you should all know by now, Fatboy Slim is the reason I got into this malarkey - from his production styles & sampling to the entire DJing charisma. He's been the driving force and my benchmark - from the ingenuity of using samples to commanding 250,000 strong crowds.
In 2018, CamelPhat did a remix of 'Right Here, Right Now', and as much as I respect their work, I have beefed it up, given it a little more energy, more percussion - it sits somewhere between tech house and techno. It also drops a few little other samples on the way to make it my own, in a true Fatboy style.
So this is a remix of a remix. A piggy back upon a remix. A revision of a remix.. call it what you will.. I call it the FatterCamel remix - UNOFFICIAL, BOOTLEGGED AND BOTCHED!!

I am incredibly fortunate to hold a residency at London techno night 'Dark Matter' - This set represents prime techno madness, and indeed what I played on 13/10/18 for their birthday event.
Close your eyes, turn up the music and embrace the madness of Dark Matter... MY Dark Matter.
I am a huge fan of the original track; its very sound captivates me to envisage those early morning moments when the world stops and all that exists is immersive sound. The euphoria. The tingle.
I NEED to play this track in my sets, however, the original is about 120bpm, and had no tail in to mix with - so I made this version, half remix, half edit.. but all respect paid to the original without compromising its quality.
Made for non-profit, but to enable a new generation of clubber to experience 'THAT' moment, because 1991 was a long time ago.

Getting things going at any club night is important, you have to set the tone, set the vibe, you need to get people warmed up and prepare them for the main show. Ive been doing warm up slots for most of my career, not because I'm not worthy of the main slot, but because I actively enjoy setting the scene for what could be the best night of your life. The warm up DJ is the one you remember before things become too much of a blur.

I wanted to use Moby's track 'Inside' in a recent mixtape, but I felt the original track isn't structured to be used in a mix, so I created a deep / minimal remix to fit with an early / warm up techno set. No offense or infringement intended, just pleased with the way it turned out and wanted to share it with the world. Hope Moby is cool with that; an interpretation of his own work? NOT FOR PROFIT.
