This week on Radio Clandestino we shine a spotlight on Rooftop Roots + Reggae, celebrating the artists and sounds behind one of Canberra's favourite grassroots music events - happening in Canberra on July 25th.
Featuring music from This Way Orkestra, Kopasetic and Agency Dub Collective, alongside reggae classics, Afrobeat, percussion-led grooves and a selection of local and global roots music, the program explores the musical influences that connect Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. In the Quechuan language, Amaru is the serpent that connects the spiritual and the subterranean world. AMARU TRIBE's deep connection with their roots and mythology is nurtured through their songlines. Amazonic drums, vibrating charangos and powerful vocal harmonies give birth to a new sound, Oceanic Cumbia.
We interviewed the band when they were in town in Canberra and chatted about their inspirations and origins - and about their type of music which they call "Oceanic Cumbia".
