We know it's been a while. Things have been a bit rough pandemic-wise in the studio. Here's an interview we actually recorded mid-2021 with Jon Varese. Jon is the Senior Director, Documentation, Salesforce.org at Salesforce. He used to be Mark's old boss. Salesforce Winter '20 Release is nearly out! Some orgs have already received the new release on September 20. The majority of customers are getting the new update October 12. This is one big update with over 500 pages of release notes. That's a lot to read, so we read the release notes for you!

Alexander Lovell announces Einstein Search coming to Salesforce in the Winter '20 release! Alexander is the Director of Product Management for Salesforce Search.
Einstein Search brings a lot of new functionality and improvements in global search in Salesforce. Search results are faster, provides more information, and supports "Natural Language." Think searching for "My opportunities this quarter" and getting proper results without creating a list view.
Einstein Search is also the first free Einstein feature released in Salesforce. It is in beta with some restrictions in Winter '20. Alexander shares what those restrictions are and what the expectation is for making Einstein Search generally available.

In 2018, Steve Molis posted an Idea which sparked a loud outcry of agreement from the community. Salesforce simply was not doing a good enough job with the IdeaExchange and communication.
A year later, Jennifer Sacks and Scott Allan from Salesforce have been traveling the world gathering feedback on the start of reimaging the IdeaExchange. To start, you can now prioritize the ideas you want to have Salesforce work on in each release. Better communication, updated technology, and improved internal processes are all part of the reimaging of the IdeaExchange.
Prioritization is open RIGHT NOW from September 9, 2019 thru September 22, 2019. So go and put your 2 cents in!

There are a changes a coming to Salesforce certifications. We get all the details from Tracie Ozug the Trailhead Program/Project Manager for Salesforce Credentials.
First, anyone who has NOT taken their Salesforce Spring '18 or Summer '18 Maintenance exams MUST finish them by December 14, 2018.
What's very important is to complete your Summer '18 exams you MUST link your Webacessor account to your trailhead account first!
Maintenance exams for Salesforce will be managed on Trailhead going forward and will be a combination of questions and demo builds.
There's a really easy way to link your Webaccessor and Trailhead accounts, confirm your accounts are linked, and view any outstanding exams.

As the cold days of November creep upon us and we fall slowly into the dreary days of winter, the WizardCast harkens back to warmer days. Days where the sun was hot, the leaves were green, and we sat down with the great Peter Coffee at MidWest Dreamin'
Peter Coffee is the VP of Strategic Research at salesforce.com. He always has some delightful perspectives and stories that make you stop and think. I always walk away from a discussion with Peter both feeling smarter and dumber. It's a very unique experience.
This is part 3 of our conversation with Peter Coffee. The first episode, The Fellowship of Peter Coffee WizardCast Episode 76 we talked about Salesforce Admins being the Stewards of Change. In our second episode, Experience Design with Peter Coffee WizardCast 78 we talked about experience design. In our third and final episode from our discussion at MidWest Dreamin' we are talking about Silo Busting.
Silo Busting is an interesting - albeit violent - metaphor for breaking down the barriers at an organization. It's about changing our perspective and how we think. Peter uses the example of a bookstore. Don't ask: What should a bookstore do in an age of Amazon? Instead ask: In an age with Amazon, what should a bookstore be?
This changes your perspective and how we look at a problem by redefining the issue. Our jobs as Salesforce Admins and Developers are very much the same. As Peter Coffee says in this episode "Because they're not trying to do it the way you used to do it with a new tool. They're saying with this tool, this is the way to do it." (16:45) Too often do we try to follow an old process using Salesforce instead of determining the best process because we're using Salesforce.

It's the last day of Dreamforce 2018. Mark and Brian managed to get together one last time to walk the Trailhead Zone at Moscone West.
We talk to Andy Golden from Skuid about his terrible sense of humor. We chat to Jen Bowen, an attendee & my community group co-leader. We also had some run ins with Beth Breisnes , Jessica Murphy, Rachel Watson, Nate Lipke, and finally Stephanie Foerst & Rakesh Gupta from Automation Champion about Flow.

We're live at Dreamforce 2018!
We start off with a quick chat before the Salesforce Admins Keynote. It was fantastic celebration of Admins with three success stories and some insights into what's coming next on Salesforce. Plus a new Golden hoodie award!
Then it's off to our annual Main keynote podcast. We got interrupted with out podcast plans and were told to sit down before we could do our normal rounds of discussion. Then the keynote started almost 20 minutes early with the dulcet tones of Peter Coffee reviewing the forward looking statement.
We pick up at one of the many parties at Dreamforce where we asked folks for their Admin Confessions. In Admin Confessions, we share something that we do or have done as Admins despite knowing we shouldn't. It's simply goes to show you that even Admins that have been doing this for years occasionally go to the dark side. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Peter Coffee was nice enough to talk with Brian and Mark on many topics. Here's part two of our conversation with Peter Coffee, VP of Strategic Research at Salesforce, from Midwest Dreamin' 2018.
The topic is Experience Design. What is experience design? Experience design is the practice of designing products, processes, services, events, and environments with a focus placed on the quality of the user experience.
The photo tag is "Don't pave your cow paths." Peter tells us about Boston paving over the cow paths versus designing a car-oriented transportation grid. It's the equivalent of simply taking a paper process and making it digital without taking the time to design the process around the user using the digital process.
Have you ever sat down and watched how your users do their jobs? Putting yourself in the customers/user's shoes gives you insight on how you should design your process/product.
As Peter mentions, most products you can buy today are pretty good compared to what we could get just a couple of decades ago. Using experience design to develop a GOOD experience will make you stand out in the crowd.
Peter users cows, cars, airlines and even tasers as examples of experience design's - or lack there of - impact.

Peter Coffee returns to share his wisdom and experience. Peter is the VP for Strategic Research at Salesforce. He often speaks on the vision of the Salesforce as a platform and company and shares strategy for companies all over the world.
Peter was kind enough to sit down with Mark and Brian at Midwest Dreamin 2018. He's been one of our favorite guests and was our guest in our very first live recording of the Wizardcast - also at Midwest Dreamin.
We start with a story of Peter on a reality TV show in India. Then our topic changes to talk about change. We discuss how change is difficult and how we must change our perspective & put ourselves in the customer’s shoes.

We're live at Midwest Dreamin 2018!
Wednesday, July 11th, was the opening night for Midwest Dreamin. There was a great session by Mike Gerholdt about navigating your career. It was followed by a interesting discussion with Kevin Poorman and Heather Dykstra about removing titles, design review, and how to talk and plan as a team.
Then it was the opening reception. Cheese, grapes, and crackers in the expo hall. It was a good time to walk around the room to see which vendors were there and plan for the next day.
It was also a great networking time. Unfortunately, Mark Ross was stuck on a plane. It just so happened that my Dreamforce Guest Co-host was at Midwest Dreamin and happily joined me. Thanks Benjamin Bolopue!

We started by talking about why we were here at Midwest Dreamin and why it was an important event. It quickly changed into talking about a 4 day roadtrip in an RV from Chicago to Dreamforce. It a great story so I simply had to share it here.

This is a jammed packed full episode with tips, Yo! Wiz!, an interview and a Salesforce Video. So stay awhile and listen.
Salseforce Tip Our tip this episode we talk about a method for managing all those cloned data records that users may create. When you clone a record, all values in all fields get copied over. This includes fields not on the page layout - for example the approval process fields. Mark talks about how you can save yourself the headache of having many cloned records with bad data. We're going to explore some of these options be it working at salesforce.com, a partner, or one of the many other areas that involve Salesforce is some form.
Chris Durate was nice enough to be our first victim, I mean guest for this series. She's the Managing Editor for Trailhead at salesforce.com. She talks about what led her to joining salesforce.com and specifically what she did to become the Managing Editor.
We also talk about what exactly is Trailhead and whether this is really a secret attempt to create an army of Salesforce Scouts.
We end our interview by trying out a new segment: The Salesforce Certification Quiz Show!
