Covid really messed up our plans and we don't talk about that enough! Rachel owned a thriving co-working space pre pandemic in Toronto and she had to pivot massively - which she did and gracefully I may add. Amanda Evans is passionate about supporting children and families to be their happiest and healthiest selves! Her own healing journey taught her so much about the extraordinary healing powers of play, love, and connection. She is dedicated to helping people take their health and happiness into their own hands, believing in their own magic and the power to heal from within.
Her work as a Kindergarten teacher (and recovering perfectionist and people-pleaser) taught her so much about how we need to be able to fill our own cups and feel safe, loved, accepted and connected in order to help children to do the same. She uses her teaching background, her experience supporting children with exceptionalities along with her own personal experience healing from a brain injury to help support others with invisible “disabilities” (or better yet...SUPERPOWERS!).
Her first book - Eat, Play, Love - is out now and can be purchased here

In this solo episode I am digging into the power of the reframe. Walking through the steps of pausing, asking what is the story you are telling yourself, self compassion and then creating a new story in your mind. This powerful excercise takes an impact on what we think, believe, feel and therefore ripples into our actions and results. I share with you REAL examples of how I do this in my everyday life for small and big things.

The 5 Love Languages have been around for a long time and I have read and studied them quite a lot so today I am going to share more on this topic. I am giving an overview of the 5 languages and my thoughts on how understanding them can help you in communication and all relationships in your life. I believe that understanding how you need to receive love is a huge step in discovering yourself and what you want in relationships - from parents and partners. It can point out patterns for how you have felt rejected or unloved and it can also help you understand and build connection with your children and friends too!

I hit record after feeling fired up - in the best possible way - after reading an article from another "Corporate Survivor" about burnout, recovery, comfort zones and rest ... it's a LOT easier to say screw the hustle than it is to actually live in alignment with that and so we struggle and there is resistance. I am talking today about everything from the Great Resignation that is taking place to Hustle Culture, Workplaces and my strategies for shifting my mindset around work, productivity and reshaping my life!
Here is the article that was so juicy and hit home for me - https://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/wellbeing/300427640/what-if-my-panic-zone-is-my-comfort-zone-the-new-burnout-book-thats-here-to-blow-your-mind
This is my riff on a topic of conversation that has come up a LOT recently with women opening up to me - how stressful the holidays can be and how little FUN and PLAY they have in their life. Two things I have definitely experienced a lot of in the past and have many thoughts on.
In the episode I mention Glennon's podcast on how she uncovered she needs more FUN in her life and recommend a follow up listen if this speaks to you - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fun-what-the-hell-is-it-and-why-do-we-need-it/id1564530722?i=1000523736996

This is a very personal share about my divorce. I discuss what I have realized about navigating through this season, where I am at emotionally and how that is impacting my life. I talk about some of the negative language around divorce that just doesn't resonate for me OR help an already hard thing. I also talk about how women struggle in silence rather than opening up about their pain and feeling the freedom that comes with sharing and being heard and seen. I urge you - no matter what your struggle is - to find a trusted person to share with so you can become empowered and stop hiding. Thank you in advance for letting me share this personal news with you. I appreciate your privacy for my family.
Kerry from @HereSheCreates is joining me for an amazing conversation about perseverance, hope, community and more. Kerry had built a very successful corporate career when "the Event" changed a lot and suddenly. She has learned to live with her traumatic brain injury but will always struggle in doing daily tasks most of us don't even think twice about. Her attitude is what I find so inspiring and how far she has come in only 4 years. She's a fun and playful mom, an active and welcoming part of her community and in recent years she has become an amazing artist too. Kerry shares with us an amazing initiative she is working on to make an impact with her art and I hope you will all show your support and purchase some of her wonderful holiday ornaments.
Visit hereshecreates.com and on the shop page you will find all the details and an Etsy link.
Today's conversation with Steph from @RosieLifewithGrey is truly special. Steph shares with us an incredible, scary and hopeful journey she has been on with her CF struggle. Cystic Fibrosis is a rare disease and as such it is not properly supported in Canada. She shares her unbelievable and heroic story of fighting to breath and get her hands on a new medication, not yet in Canada, to help her do that. Now years later she has dramatically improved her lung capacity (however it is still under 50%) and she has become an advocate for other CF families trying to gain access to this lifechanging medication. Steph is a true advocate - she is an amazing voice for families and patients, she knows the facts and she is creative and determined online where she gets her message out. I also love following Steph and her family because she has those down to earth IG bestie vibes and you just know sitting on her pretty fall porch sharing a tea would be the most healing and fun afternoon!

I love the topic of Personal Branding because I love helping people up level their brand using their skills, experiences and values. I bring over 20 years experience in recruitment, marketing and retail/hospitality operations to what I do - I have helped hire a LOT of people and helped attract a lot of talent to large organizations so I know how people stand out and how they get lost in the application processes. Today is an intro to what a personal brand is, what are the key components to identifying your personal brand and some thoughts on how to get to the right people with your message.

To wrap up the first season of Embrace Simplified I have rounded up some highlights from your fave episodes!
For full episodes check out
Episode 1: Backstory, Boldness and Burnout
Episode 2: Self Care Is Hard
Episode 6: Embrace Growth + Find YOU Again!
Episode 3: Simplicity + Surrender with Lynne Newman
This is a special episode as I am welcoming my 8 year old daughter on as my guest! Those close to me often inquire on Stellas emotional maturity - even her teachers have commented - and in reflecting I do think there are some things I have been very intentional about.
Due to family history of mental illness and some early signs of frustration around change or lack of control I was curious how I could support her best. This lead me to the Simplicity Parenting course I took back in 2017 (I discuss that in more detail in Episode 3) and from there I dove into creating moments of connection with her from a young age where I would nurture her Empathic side and be available to listen.
We now have some rituals and tools in her wellness toolbox so we thought it would be fun to share them with you. I believe that loving kids effectively has a very strong impact on the relationship we are creating with our kids but also on the people they grow to be - that doesn't just happen it takes intentional work.

Kate Warren is joining us to chat about branding photography for your business, motherhood, wellness and so much more! For Kate a lot changed when she became a mom and her mental health was impacted like it was for many of us.
Now she is taking what she learned in that struggle and building programs to support children and mothers who want to enjoy parenting and live intentionally. She is going to share with us her most precious place in her home (that no one can mess with) and some rituals and routines that help her simplify.
In this episode I shared my top 5 oils for summer - these are the never leave home without 'em oils for vacations, beach days, road trips, cottage stays and more!

It's real talk with a mom who doesn't feel like she has it all together but totally looks like she does to every other mom... IYKYK ;) In this episode we discuss parenting, new mom life in a pandemic, running a family with 4 boys, what simplified and intentional living looks like for this mom and so much more. Meghan is also a Kindergarten teacher SO I get her to open up on how we can all make sense of some of the feedback we got from teachers about where are kids are at this year... and what we can all be doing this summer that doesn't involve hiring a tutor but will help our kids keep learning year round!
Here is where to follow Meg on IG @mamamegsessentials
Here is the cool SEEK by iNaturalist app that we use when out exploring with our kids
Here are helpful NEW reader books if your little one is struggling to learn or have confidence in reading
Here is a fun online program the Toronto Library is running this summer for all ages
Inspired Action Takeaway - Try taking one of the many examples of rituals for simplifying in this episode and try it for a week ... add smoothies each day for your kids, go for a walk and make learning fun, try practicing sight words and reading daily, meal prep on Sunday... there were so many routines that help make life run smoother that Meghan shared.
Kaitlynn is a very successful woman who shares a TON of great truths on mindset, living intentionally and perseverance through hard things. We talk about her struggles to get pregnant and how difficult it can be to go through hard things while also feeling alone. She shared with us some details on her exciting memoir coming out Fall 2021 and I absolutely LOVED what she shared about realigning her life and priorities.
Inspired Action - Make your list of CURRENT priorities - looking at where your time is going now. Then make a list of how you would like to focus going forward and reprioritize the list. This helps you shake up where your time and energy are going... its not easy but it can be this simple.

Nadine is a down to earth mama with a clear vision for the business she wants to create and the people she wants to serve. She is calm, grounded and I loved recording this episode with her as she has a way of chilling me out! We talk about nutrition, our relationships with food, starting a business, deciding to invest in ourselves, homeschool, kids nutrition and so much more!
Inspired Action - Take note of the times you eat what you think you should eat or avoid things you think you shouldn't eat. Also note any foods that make you feel tired, bloated or uncomfortable after you eat them. Tracking these small details can help a nutritionist find ways to help you. For bonus marks try to eat all meals this week sitting down and chewing mindfully.
Remember to shoot me a dm on IG and tell me who else I should have a guest on the Embrace Simplified Podcast - I want to know who you think would be perfect!

I am so excited for Leisse Wilcox to join us on the Podcast - in this episode she shares with us all her goodness on relationships {not just romantic ones!}, radical self love, healing, surrender and so much more. She talks insightfully about what is missing in a lot of other self help stuff online and what we need to watch out for. I loved the discussion about asking ourselves what we want in a partnership [single or not this is a really great question to ask] and how to start cultivating those feelings and joy from within ourselves in order to feel whole and not seek or rely on getting those feelings from outside ourselves. So. Much. Juicy. Stuff. Please tag me when you listen and let me know what you take away from this episode!
Since recording with Leisse I decided to read her book for a second time and go back through the Tacotivities {aka homework} and I am taking so much away from this because I am in such a different place than the first time I read it. I really recommend the book, you can find it here. leissewilcox.ca/buy-my-book/

There really is nothing simple about self care BUT sometimes there can be small ways to simplify our approach or mindset around it. Today I am sharing my 3 big HARD learnings around self care, why I hate the term self care and a few ways to learn and explore more about this topic so you can start taking bold consistent action.
If you have ever been frustrated by traditional preachy self care messages then this one is for you - I hope that by keeping it real around this topic we can all make more realistic changes to our "self care" practices.
