Maybe we can burn all the boats.
Soundcloud song
Lyrics:
No I’m not going back
Cause I’ve burned all the boats
No I’m not going back
To the coast
I came over the waves
People said I was brave
But I’m not going back
There again
You said build me an army
You said bring me the gold
You said we’re chosen aren’t we
I have learned that’s not so
Just so you know
You can never send hernando de Soto
de Léon, cortes, or Coronado
You can never send Pizarro among us
Cause I burned all my boats back to you
I’m bizarro Columbus
So I’m moving ahead
You have left me for dead
Saying I have gone native
In my head
But I don’t really mind
All I’m leaving behind
Cause those voices were yours
Never mine
You said build me an army
You said bring me the gold
You said we’re chosen aren’t we
I have learned that’s not so
Just so you know
You can never send hernando de Soto
de Léon, cortes, or Coronado
You can never send Pizarro among us
Cause I burned all my boats back to you
I’m bizarro Columbus
You tried to send your best
But he sailed over the ledge
I came into the west
And all I found was the edge of your world
I will block all your hernando de Sotos
de Léons, cortes, or Coronados
You will never send Pizarro among us
Cause I burned all my boats back to you
I’m bizarro Columbus
Maybe my chaos is order.

Lyrics:
Oh I’ve always been a hurricane
Who is living on tranquility lane
Every single day I smile and wave
But every once in a while I completely destroy everything
My order is chaos
It taunts and dismays us
It builds me a city
It makes me look pretty
Then kills us and flays us
My chaos is order
I sit in the corner
I cry myself silly
I hate it but really
It’s moving me forward
I can always feel your pain
Deep inside my own my parietal brain
Every day I smile and say
“How are you?” but sometimes my shame blows us away
My order is chaos
It taunts and dismays us
It builds me a city
It makes me look pretty
Then kills us and flays us
My chaos is order
I sit in the corner
I cry myself silly
I hate it but really
It’s moving me forward
How are you out on the Gulf of Mexico?
While I’m stuck inside afraid of letting go
How do you have space to change the world we know?
While I’m still afraid to show
My order is chaos
It taunts and dismays us
It builds me a city
It makes me look pretty
Then kills us and flays us
My chaos is order
I sit in the corner
I cry myself silly
I hate it but really
It’s moving me forward

Maybe I’ve always been me.
Lyrics:
I never knew myself at all
I only knew the imperfections
I only knew the trip and fall
I only knew the wrong direction
I couldn’t feel the way I felt
I couldn’t handle my emotions
The only thing that I knew well
Was how to go through all the motions
But I’ve always been me
And I’ve always been free
I didn’t know it I didn’t know it
The eyes I saw through didn’t show it
But I’ve always been me
And I’ve always been free
Like a star who’s always searching for the light
For the light for the light
I was searching for the light
For the light for the light for the light
I always knew just who I was
I always had my intuition
I always questioned myself but
My deepest heart came to fruition
Despite my overwhelming fear
Despite my insecure existence
My truest self was always here
So Bravely leading the resistance
Cause I’ve always been me
And I’ve always been free
Now I know it Now i know it
And every moment seems to show it
Cause I’ve always been me
And I’ve always been free
Like a star who’s only searching for delight
For delight for delight
I’m just searching for delight
For delight for delight for delight
Maybe life is more forgiving than we think. Maybe most of our choices are less right vs wrong, and more just choices. Maybe we are the cat with 1000 lives.
Tonight is a night for crying.
Song Lyrics:
Tonight is a night for crying
So stop the distractions of my mind
Tonight is a night for dying inside
As my heart gently says, “it’s time”
All the heroes that I’ll never turn into
All my advice that they’d all want to know
All the praises from without and within too
I don’t want them, but I weep as they go
Tonight I am tired of being happy
Tonight I am tired of smiles on my face
Tonight I am tired of compartmentalizing
Tonight is a night to be in this place
Tonight is a night for crying
All the comfortable places are gone
Tonight is a night for dying inside
The pretending doesn’t have to go on
All the money that just isn’t coming
All the old mes that have died as I grow
All the times I have stood strong in the storming
All the times I’ve had to tell those kids
The night that I almost lost you
Those memories I almost can’t help but replay
The time we lost our almost baby
The time our son almost floated away
Tonight is a night for crying
Tonight is a night to cry
Tonight is a night for dying inside
Tonight is night to die
Maybe the best thing about when you’re gone is the feeling of wanting you.
Song Lyrics:
The only good thing when you’re gone is the feeling of wanting you
The only redemption when we’re apart is the desire that I feel for you
So when you say you have to leave I like to watch you walk away
And I like the sound of the longing voice in my head begging you to stay
Give me five more minutes
Give me ten more minutes
Fifteen or twenty minutes more
Five more minutes
Ten more minutes
Fifteen or twenty five to life
I love it so much when you’re fake mad and you call me all kinds of names
I love your teasing sideways looks and your tantalizing games
I want this moment to last so long oh never let it fade away
I want to keep on wanting you from now until my dying day
Give me five more minutes
Give me ten more minutes
Fifteen or twenty minutes more
Five more minutes
Ten more minutes
Fifteen or twenty five to life
Before we met life was fine
Life with you now is amazing
But even when you’re not here
At least I get to experience wanting you
Maybe the only thing we have to fear is the fear of fear.
Lyrics to today’s song “The Fear is Silent”:
I thought I saw some humans but I missed em
Cause fear just kept them covered in the system
I thought I saw some lips and so I kissed em
But fear spat propaganda for the system
Fear said to me that the only way to be a member’s
If the only fun times are the fun times that I don’t remember
And fear said if I want to be the salt the light the leaven
Then I mostly need more squinty eyes with hands held up to heaven
And the fear said that to join the club that’s driving round the Bentley
Means a capitalistic life spent at work is life well spently
And the fear certainly never left a single shred of doubt
That a person’s value’s based upon how well their kids turned out
The fear is in the storm and in the quiet
It’s there when you are poor or flush to buy it
And it makes sure that your staying well in line, it
Fills the system with the systemites inside it
When it comes don’t push it down or try to hide it
Let it be just what it is don’t try to style it
When you love the part that fears and don’t defile it
The fear is silent
Tell me all your fears, why don’t you list em
And I’ll tell you why your trapped within the system
ask me all your questions, don’t resist em
Cause questions shake the pillars of the system
Pillar one is if you have some inkling for belonging
Then accept their definition of the righting and the wronging
Pillar two says they are fine with failing or succeeding
Yeah as long as those don’t compromise this system that they’re needing
Pillar three’s if you can’t be some version of the same
Then shame upon shame upon shame upon shame
Pillar four is they want more from you than you can give
Cause the system should seem valid every moment that you live
The fear is in the storm and in the quiet
It’s there when you are poor or flush to buy it
And it makes sure that your staying well in line, it
Fills the system with the systemites inside it
When it comes don’t push it down or try to hide it
Let it be just what it is don’t try to style it
When you love the part that fears and don’t defile it
The fear is silent
Your anger is the wall that hurts the ones who are outside
Your fear is just the voice that wants the wall there to survive
Your pain is what you’re feeling everyday that you’re alive
And your courage tells you that this is the time to take the dive
Into the pain will kill you but from those dark ashes you will rise
And your anger all will melt away as you will see the lie
Your fear’ll no longer push a system keeping you in line
It will be silent
So ask me all your questions don’t resist em
And tell me all your fears go on and list em
And love the parts that fear and once you’ve kissed em
Then let their silence free you from the system
Maybe all different feelings, like ores in the ground, can be mined for their own unique purposes. And maybe we are not the builders, deciding what is used for what, maybe we are the miners.
What if we let go?
Show notes:
Several folks have asked me to post lyrics to the songs so I will try to be better about that from now on:
LET GO
He closes the panel after fixing the life-support system
The space suit makes most people clumsy, but he is the best
His breath in and out keeps a peaceful and comforting rhythm
Till he faces away and his heart skips a beat in his chest
The stars are innumerably peppering the deafening silence
The vast empty spaces are crushing the scope of his mind
The beauty is terribly grasping and holding his focus
He can’t turn away to go back to the safety he’d find
Ooh, what if he let go?
Ooh, what if he let go?
He thinks back on all of the pride in the eyes of his neighbors
He thinks back on all of the late nights for all of the grades
He feels all the mountains of pressure, and the compassion craters
He remembers the night that he left her, but he should have stayed
“And never forget to ensure that you’ve fastened your harness
And never let anyone down who is counting on you
And you are the hope of the future of human existence”
He knows all these guidelines by heart, but man what a view
Ooh, what if he let go?
Ooh, what if he let go?
He lets every finger release from the handle beside him
And slowly drifts farther and farther away from his ship
The terror he feels is matched only by the exultant freedom
Till the tether snaps tight and the line holds him fast in its grip
And his anger explodes at the structures that refuse to release him
And his anger explodes at the grip that they have on his life
Then his eyes find the place of the tether’s release mechanism
And the terror and freedom again cut his heart like a knife
Ooh, what if he let go?
Ooh, what if he let go?
As the focus of all of his life’s work becomes just a pinpoint
As the rule that the entangled people exerted is done
He turns and observes all the universe for his enjoyment
And marvels at all of the treasure that he has just won
And his suit begins beeping that his oxygen is at a low point
And his radio angrily crackles with petulant noise
And his eyes find the button that releases the seal of his suit’s joint
And he finally let’s the world hear his genuine voice
Ooh, what if we let go?
Ooh, what if we let go?
Even though your kite string holds you to the ground, it might be keeping you from flying.

Maybe everything you are accused of being is a lie. Literally everything. You are not an idiot. You are not an addict. You are not a mom. You are not an accountant. You are not a spaz. You are not a genius. You are not a Christian. You are not gay. You are not white. You are not nice. The only thing you ARE is you. YOU. And the divine cosmic laughter bubbling through your soul assures you that is enough.

Maybe Satan is simply the spirit of Accusation. Maybe we view God as constantly accusing. Maybe that means the Being that we are worshiping is closer to Satan than God.
