The “Ancient of days” that Daniel sees sits down upon the throne with the books in his hand. I think Daniel is seeing here what John saw in revelation, chapter 4. God on his throne, ready to pour out his eternal purpose on the earth. But no one was found worthy to open the book. Then in chapter 5, the worthy One appears. Don’t weep John, the Lamb of God has appeared! Both Daniel and John are seeing the Ascended Christ as the one who is qualified to open the book that is in the hand of the ancient of days. Daniel, however , did not see what John now reveals. The Messiah would come to earth, live the Christian life for us , take it to the cross, rise from the dead, ascend before the Ancient of Days, take the book out of the Father’s hand and administrate Gods purpose on the earth first through the church. This was a mystery to the Jewish understanding. . Of course this began with the church receiving His life through the dispensing of His Spirit. This initiated the kingdom of Heaven coming on the earth before crushing Gods/ Israels foes. Daniel could not have understood the inclusion of the church, but this is what he sees in his dream. This stone cut out of God (Daniel 2:35) is Christ. But Before He crushes His enemies He was “cut but not with human hands” meaning He came out of Ancient of Days for a purpose. That word “cut” literally means to be determined. God purposed or determined beforehand that this Christ would carry out His will. Not just to crush the enemy at Armageddon, but to do it all! He was “cut out” to administrate Gods kingdom on earth through the church. He ascended before the Ancient of Days and this happened: "And to Him was given dominion, glory, and a kingdom, / That all the peoples, nations, and languages might serve Him. / His dominion is an eternal dominion, which will not pass away; / And His kingdom is one that will not be destroyed." (Daniel 7:14) Jesus did it all, ascended, and was the Worthy One who to this day is administering the kingdom on earth.
