• While speaking in Somerset, Massachusetts on Wednesday, President Joe Biden called climate change “an existential threat to our nation and to the world.” Biden also promised to use executive powers in the event Congress is unable to pass legislation to combat global warming.
• Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spoke during a House hearing on Tuesday—explaining, “the more pain that we are all experiencing from the high price of gas, the more benefit there is for those who can access electric vehicles.”
• Beginning in 2006 California incentivized homeowners to install solar paneling on their roofs. According to the Los Angeles Times, the life span of those panels is now ending and, due to the incredible cost of recycling them, many people are just throwing them away. Experts believe that improperly discarded panels will pollute groundwater with heavy metals. According to estimates, only 1 in 10 solar panels is currently being disposed of properly.
• On Wednesday, police officers were forced to shoot and kill a giant snake that was strangling a Pennsylvania man in his home.
• The Philadelphia 76ers have proposed a new, $1.3 billion arena near 9th and Market in Center City. The stadium would be privately funded, according to Sixers owner Josh Harris.
• During an address to Parliament, out-going British Prime Minister Boris Johnson implored his successor to “stay close to the Americans…and stick up for freedom and democracy everywhere.” He concluded his speech by quoting Terminator 2: Judgement Day, saying: “Hasta la vista, baby!”
