How to get a #technology #career as a non-technology person? Getting into technology companies, such as #amazon, #google, and #SpaceX might seem far-fetched for many non-technology people, however if you’re keen on those places I strongly believe that you can find a great position for you.
Over the years, I’ve seen many people make a transition to and from #tech that you would never expect. Your career identity doesn’t define you.
If you want to tech career, you have to fully immersed yourself in looking for a position. From my perspective, you still have to be a “technology-nerd” so that you will be passionate enough to keep pursuing this option.
There’s three approaches to looking for a job in technology:
Use a precision strike by fully immersing yourself in a technology area. attend technology conferences, go to technology associations, and hang out at bars and restaurants where people in these careers might be. My favorite of mine is to join a club like #Toastmasters in that area.
Apply to every technology job that you can see. This means applying to every position, and every company that you can know of, regardless of geography. At some point somebody will bite, but it might take a very long time.
Be vocal as a proponent about the pros and cons of the particular career, especially online. Document your journey to discovering that particular area online. It’s OK if you look dorky, but if you keep doing it repeatedly, people will notice. Again, this is going to take some time.
From my perspective, the key ingredient is persistent. If you want to get into a technology career you have to want it bad enough to dedicate a lot of time and resources to it.
