Collaboration and group work continue to be promoted in schools as a goal. We should not do group work for the sake of group work; we need to be clear about the purpose, goal and outcomes. 

Design thinking requires group work because idea generation works well when more minds are on a task. Students also need the opportunity to practice soft skills such as listening skills, accountability, empathy, and peer-learning. The ideal size for a group depends also depends on the task or project goals and outcomes.
