Teachers want kids engaged in project work. A hook activity to start the project provides an insightful kick off that drives the whole project cycle. A hook activity gives a scenario kids can relate to easily. Kids do the task in the usual way. We flip the task and try again. Then kids need to reflect on the problem and how to solve it. This usually creates the motivation to finish the project.
