14:14-17 If Abram had followed God’s 12:1 instructions explicitly (leaving family behind), he wouldn’t have needed to go to war.  (God’s full plan is always better than our “amendments” to it!)

Melchizedek a precursor of Christ: Priest, King, accepts a tithe, “bread and wine” prefigures Eucharist.  See Psalm 110:4 and Hebrews 5:6,10 and 6:10-7:19.

15:6 Abram’s faith credited to him as righteousness. (Yes he had faith, but was also OBEDIENT, he ACTED on his faith.  See James 2:21-2:24 which synthesizes the connection between Abram’s faith and “works.”

15:17 God’s covenant with Abram was unilateral. (Only God, in the form of a flaming torch, passed between the slaughtered animal-halves, not Abram.)

(Message to us:God loves us unconditionally, and keeps his promises.)
