I’ve talked about cancel culture here in the past. For those unfamiliar with the term, cancel culture refers to the practice of withdrawing support for public figures or companies after they have done something with which the general public takes issue. Not only do they boycott or “cancel” the person or entity, they weaponize shame and condemnation for the wrong thing that was done. Now, let me say, boycotting isn’t wrong, and I’m sure you have heard the phrase, you vote with your dollar. I’m not opposed to that. I practice that in my own life, and I think we all do. Everyone has somewhere they won’t shop, for whatever reason. But, cancel culture doesn’t allow for change. Cancel culture doesn’t offer redemption or second chances, and sadly, the cancel culture reflex is strong in some Christian circles.
