The Wise Why, Joanne Herman talks with Kirsty van den Bulk
The Wise Why, Joanne Herman Marketing & Business Development Manager shares how being a mum changed her life.
Jo is the Marketing & Business Development Manager for The Chartered Institute of Taxation and is also a figure skating coach. She lives in London near Wimbledon with her husband Peter and their five-year-old son, George. J
o has worked alongside entrepreneurs and dot.com boom influencers, such as Errol Damelin of Wonga and since 1999 has been helping a number of business sectors raise their brand awareness. As far as Jo is concerned, it’s not B2B or B2C marketing it is H2H (human to human) marketing. Starting off in sales, Jo discovered her passion for marketing.
At the start of her career, she worked with many small businesses and start-ups, both improving their brand reputation and increasing their brand awareness. Over time they grew, branched into new sectors, attracted new customers, and some integrated with competing businesses. Since then, she has become a chartered marketer, launched five websites, and has worked in partnership marketing roles with Lloyds and Barclays as well as Microsoft and Oracle. This experience helped her secure the role as European Marketing Manager at Samsung where she met me.
Recently Jo has focused her energy and marketing passion by writing blogs based around the power of personal branding and the benefits it can bring to both the individual and business.
For nearly two years she’s been writing articles for the Chartered Institute of Taxation and says, “it’s important more than ever to be different and stand out from the crowd. Embrace your strengths and grow from your weaknesses. I like to base my brand around CAKE. That’s keeping it Creative, Adaptable, Kind and Empathetic.” Jo is happiest when she is helping others, she volunteers in her local church and part of the PTA. She also loves most sport and prefer doing it rather than watching it.
