As a kid, I believed there was a straight path ahead of me for my life, and all I had to do was walk down it. I grew up feeling loved by both of my parents. We weren’t rich with money, but our home was rich with books, music, sports, opportunities, and—every summer—vegetables from our back yard garden. I thought everyone had a family like mine, and I believed that's the type of family I would raise one day. Turns out, my life has been nothing but a straight line.
