It is December 1st. It is the Christmas season. Advent, the time of arrival, is upon us. It is now socially acceptable to blast Christmas music and “deck the halls” to your heart’s content. Each week, I will invite us to linger with one aspect of the story and how it allows us to consider the answers to two questions. The first is what can we discover about God through this story? The second, what do we learn about ourselves, about humanity through this story? Because at its center, the Christmas story is a meeting of these two natures and the discovery that they can be intertwined, indistinguishable from one another, so great is the intimacy between God and us.

Today, I ask us to consider these questions through Elizabeth and her role in the story.
