Today we are talking about why most diets fail. The reason why most diets fail. When we talk about the effectiveness of a diet, we need to think about the time, right? The time frame in which diets are effective is important and relevant to us. Okay, so now you can go on. If you find these diets like keto, intermittent fasting, one meal a day, they all have their benefits that they're more lifestyle-related. And in terms of losing weight or losing fat, you have to be in a calorie deficit. It's energy balance. It's a basic law of thermodynamics it's the law of conservation of energy that its energy in versus energy out.
Basically, what that means is whatever energy that you eat, if you don't burn it, you're going to store it as fat. And if you're eating less energy than you burn, then you're going to burn fat. The energy has to come from somewhere. So all these diet fads, have to leverage off the basic concept of being in a calorie deficit. Okay. So the reason why most diets don't work is that it's very restrictive. It doesn't matter what program or what diet plan that you're on. It has to be something that you can be able to sustain, definitely for the rest of your life, essentially, because when you have free reign on what to do, you end up being comfortable. And that's why you're in the position you are in in the first place, because as society develops, we become much like overall, say, Australia and America. The rate of obesity and the rate of people who are overweight increasing, which means society as a whole is leaning more towards eating more food rather than exercising more. So in terms of balance, the exercise versus food, we're eating more food. We're learning to overindulge more than all these creature comforts. Everything is becoming more convenient, with more technology, allowing us to preserve more energy. For example, with the lights that we have, we can actually just use our voice rather than just switching on and off all the energy that you burn in the day it adds up. And if you're not moving around, you're much more sedentary working desk jobs and you're eating a lot more food, then obviously you're going to gain weight.
So with these diets become really restrictive, and it's such a drastic and stark difference to your regular lifestyle. It's not something that you can feasibly maintain for the rest of your life. So it doesn't matter what program or what diet plan you go on. It really doesn't matter as long as you're in the calorie deficit. But if it's so much so drastically different from your current lifestyle, you can't maintain that. So my clients, we actually incorporate all the foods that they love and enjoy into the program. It doesn't matter what it is. Pizzas, burgers, brownies tacos, cheesecake sandwiches. Nothing is off-limits.
