I would say a fair amount of people that come through the door don't have a course yet. And they and this is like a big part of their vision for their business. It's a big part of their client ecosystem, and maybe their coaches and they coach one on one and they want to be able to provide another level of service. Maybe they do workshops, and, you know, maybe they have like an in person business in an office and they want to train their employees. You know, there's so many reasons why people create online course content.

Intro 00:37

Hello, and welcome back to the Course Creators Academy podcast. I'm your host, Pua, and we are here for another episode. Today. I am really excited again. Yes, I know, to talk to you about creating an online course. Oh my gosh, what a shocker. Now, if you are a total pro at online courses you've released, you know, dozens of them, I definitely think that there are going to be nuggets in here that you can still take away and apply to your next course, if you are thinking about creating a course or if you have been working on a course and you feel a little bit stuck, this is going to be a great episode for you. So get ready, take some notes, if you're walking, take a deep breath, enjoy that beautiful sunshine and fresh air. Maybe it's a little bit chilly, because it is now November oh my goodness, where did this year go? Seriously. And let's dive in.

Now this episode is going to be a little bit more casual, I am sharing a little bit of an experiment that I am currently experimenting with. And I'll share with you a little background from where this, this spawned from, and why I am so inspired to talk about it on this podcast, even before I have fully, you know, gone through the experiment and, and tested this. So we work a lot with course creators 95% of our clients are course creators, they are Kajabi users they are, you know, maybe they have a membership, maybe they have multiple courses, I would say a fair amount of people that come through the door, don't have a course yet. And they and this is like a big part of their vision for their business. It's a big part of their client ecosystem, and maybe their coaches and they coach one on one and they want to be able to provide another level of service. Maybe they do workshops. And, you know, maybe they have like an in person business in an office and they want to train their employees. You know, there's so many reasons why people create online course content. Regardless of the reason, regardless of the industry, regardless of the person's experience. Many many, many people, myself included, get stuck in the course creating process somewhere. I'm creating a course right now, and I am stuck. I'm stuck. I am like, I just haven't moved forward. I have my outline, I have my content. I have like 80% of my content, and I need to start recording videos. And I just, I'm just not. And I'm like what is that? If I'm going to be coaching people and guiding people through creating online courses, and they're getting stuck? How do I coach them if I'm unsure about why I'm getting stuck? And so as you can imagine, there's a lot of, you know, the like imposter syndrome and, like, stuff going on in my head. But I really just want to hack this. I want to figure it out for myself and so that I can serve others better. I, I don't know yet. I have not figured that out. That's not the point of this episode. Thankfully. However I did. There was a little bit of a lightbulb moment that I had yesterday, which is guiding me sort of serendipitously to what could potentially be a really, really powerful strategy and tool to flipping the course creation process on its head and potentially offering a solution to the places that we all typically get stuck in this process.

Background. This week I interviewed an incredible woman, her name is Pumehana Palmer, her episode releases next week, you guys are gonna, she's gonna blow your mind. She is just so, so incredible. And I don't want to give too much away. That's why I'm being very vague. But she is a mindset coach among dozens of other things. And she, you know, we've been sort of casually talking, and she's like, I think I want to create a course and I have these workbooks. And would you mind taking a look at them and letting me know if you think that they would be good courses? And I open these workbooks. And I'm just like, how do you not have these in course form yet, like, these are so powerful and impactful? And I can, I can just feel the transformation that would happen if I were to utilize these workbooks as exercises for my own life. And then I thought, wow, what if we all start our courses from workbooks, I mean, you're gonna, you're gonna provide downloads and PDFs, and worksheets and workbooks in your course, eventually, anyway, probably. And if you're not, that's something to consider, because that will really elevate the experience. And then you can choose whether you want to provide them as downloads, or if you want to do like a welcome kit in the mail that includes like a, you know, beautifully bound workbook or notebook, you know, the possibilities, as you know, are endless. But we always, always, always encourage our clients and course creators to provide this sort of supplemental resource of a worksheet or workbook downloadable, well. So if that's what we're doing anyway. And by the way, that usually comes at the end.

Pualena 06:58

Here's, okay, let me backup. This is where this is how we typically will guide people to create courses, create your course, outline, flesh out the outline. So you've got like your modules and your main subjects. And then you've got lessons under each module. And then in that you want to, you know, outline each lesson and what is your content, what is your, you know, script out your videos. And then from that, you'll create your worksheets and your workbooks and your downloads. Usually, that part of this gets sort of like pushed off and delayed. So you can launch your course, if you don't have your downloads yet. They're nice, they're helpful, but they aren't crucial to somebody, internalizing your content and generating results from that. And it's usually like not part of the process. That's super fun for people to be honest. Now, if we start with the worksheets, and the workbook, not only are we actually getting done, the thing that often gets put off, and is not that fun. But when we start by creating a workbook, we are creating something in the energy of the actual experience. A workbook is designed to be an experience, a workbook is designed to create a, it's, it's for practicing to create a result to create a transformation. So we're already in that energy. If we take the workbook and then create the content from that, we are always going to be transformation focused. And this will keep us from laundry listing and babbling on about something that we know deeply. Something that we're passionate about something that we have experience with and knowledge and, you know, it's that's that's sort of the trap of an online course, is we, we tend to sometimes deliver in a way that can be very two dimensional, and we lose sight of the transformational experience that we want to provide.

Pualena 09:11

So, again, this is not something that I have fully tested. However, when, I when this light bulb went off in my head, about starting from a workbook, I took the course that I'm working on, and I stopped trying to force myself to create content for it. And I stopped trying to force myself to like, record a video that I wasn't feeling good about recording. And I opened up a blank document and I started putting together the workbook, and things just started flowing. It's not done. It's not perfect. I don't know, maybe I will still feel, feel blocked when it comes time to record from whatever I'm putting together in this workbook. But at least I'm feeling forward movement with this process, where I had been pretty stagnant for a few weeks. So, this is a short and sweet episode that is just delivering it or introducing an experiment to you and inviting you. If this resonates with you if you want to, you know, do this experiment with me, I invite you to give this a shot. Start with the workbook. Start with the exercises and the experience of actually taking the actions that you're teaching. Start with the road to the transformation through action, and see if that feels like it's going to inspire you and, and trigger something deep down within you to continue to create this content for your students. I would love to hear how this works for you if you're planning on trying it. If you're working on a course. Let me know how I can continue to support you, please reach out and I will talk to you soon. Keep crushing.
