Dr. Jamie McCasland is an assistant professor of economics at the University of British Columbia. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in economics at UCLA in 2004, receiving the UCLA Department of Economics Recognition of Academic Excellence Award, before joining Triage Consulting Group, which serves hospitals and has recovered over $4 billion for over 800 hospital clients. Dr. McCasland spent a year as a Reproductive Health Education US Peace Corps Volunteer in Kenya, followed by two years as a Senior Evaluation Coordinator for Innovations for Poverty Action - Kenya. In 2015, she completed her PhD in economics at UC Berkeley and began teaching at the University of British Columbia's Vancouver School of Economics. Dr. McCasland's work has included field experiments in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, and Ghana, and her current research studies small firm hiring, job training, and technology adoption in low-income countries. She is a referee for several journals including the Journal of the European Economics Association, and she is the recipient of over 15 awards and grants including the Journal of Development Economics Dissertation Award and the World Bank Jobs MDTF Grant.
