Dr. Siwan Anderson is a professor at the University of British Columbia's Vancouver School of Economics. She holds a Bachelor of Sciences in mathematics, a Master of Arts in economics and a PhD in economics from the University of British Columbia. Her research focus is development economics, particularly looking at the role of institutions in developing countries, and gender economics, looking at the role of women in the economy. Dr. Anderson is an associate of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, a fellow of the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development, a faculty associate at the Center for Effective Global Action, and an associate at Theoretical Research in Development Economics, or ThReD. She has published over 15 research papers; one of her most recent papers explored women's property rights and marriage transfers and was published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics. Dr. Anderson is an associate editor of the Review of Economics and Statistics and the Journal of Development Economics, and she is on the editorial board of the Journal of Globalization and Development. She has received over 20 grants and awards including the UBC Killiam Research Prize, and she's the first woman ever to receive the John Rae Prize from the Canadian Economics Association.
