Moderation or abstinence is the question posed by 4mics 13teeth 1anklemonitor today. Being in addiction recovery is hard enough. Gary and Amanda cover this today. In addiction recovery, the debate between moderation and abstinence is a topic that often sparks intense discussions and personal reflections. The choice between these two approaches ultimately depends on individual circumstances and preferences.Abstinence, for many, is seen as the safest and most straightforward path to recovery. It entails completely avoiding the substance or behavior that led to addiction. This approach is rooted in the belief that once an individual is addicted, attempting to moderate use can be risky, as it may trigger a relapse. Many support groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, advocate for abstinence as a way to maintain sobriety. The idea behind this approach is that by eliminating the source of addiction, individuals can focus on healing, rebuilding their lives, and developing healthier coping mechanisms. On the other hand, moderation is an approach that some find more appealing, especially for those with less severe addictions or specific circumstances. It involves setting limits and boundaries on substance use, striving for controlled consumption without complete avoidance. Proponents argue that this approach allows individuals to enjoy some aspects of their previous lifestyles while managing their addictive tendencies. However, moderation requires significant discipline and self-awareness, as it can be a fine line between responsible use and relapse.Ultimately, the decision between moderation and abstinence is a deeply personal one. It's essential for individuals in addiction recovery to carefully assess their own triggers, strengths, and weaknesses when considering these approaches. Seeking guidance from professionals, therapists, or support groups can provide invaluable insights and support in making this choice. In the end, both moderation and abstinence can be effective tools for maintaining sobriety, and the key is finding the right path that aligns with one's recovery journey. On today's podcast of 4mics 13teeth 1anklemonitor Gary and Bill talk about gratitude. We have covered this subject before, but it is something that is so powerful that were back at it. Wanting what someone else has or just not happy with what you have can lead to relapse. Thinking that i deserve more that I need more can be a mindset that is hard to overcome. So, if I just slow down and close my eyes and take a breath things start and remember that at one time, I wanted what I have now. Always remember that someone is praying for what you have. It may be one day clean, it may be that beat up car you're driving, it may be that can of beans you're fixing to eat.

Why should you get involved in anything when you are starting to get sober? Short answer: because it helps. Sitting around for months trying to figure out the new you is hard. You have something that you enjoy doing' maybe it's bicycles, fishing, dogs or cats, maybe a thousand other things but you enjoy something. Maybe you don't know what you like so may we suggest something, anything to fill your void. We are not trained professionals (wish we were) but if we were to tell you the people, we have seen over the last decade that didn't get involved and end back in their addictions you would be amazed. We are not telling you what to get involved in, but we are highly suggesting that you get involved in something. For Gary and Amanda, they have chosen to get involved in their church and the Celebrate Recovery ministry. Listen in as they talk passionately about their lives in recovery

Making friends at first when you have just given up whatever addiction you had is hard. Today on 4mics 13teeth 1anklemonitor Gary and Amanda talk about this. For them it has been even harder because they are married to each other and have three small children. Everyone tells you to get rid of old people, places and things. This is easy to tell someone and the right thing to tell them but for the one that has to do it it's very hard especially since you are telling me that i have to get rid of my friends (all my friends were in addiction also). So now I don't have anyone to hang out with or to talk to. This is the one area that we in addiction struggle with and I really wish I could use the right word for it because it is very hard. This is the 2nd step I had to make and until I heard my pastor say, " I went out to find a friend and I found any (none), I went out to be a friend and I found many". Gary and Amanda talk openly about their struggles with this. We hope this helps you if you are in the same situation.

On this interview with Hillary, we did not go live we just recorded it. We are giving you this backstory because we want you to be inspired even more by her story. Hillary backed out of the interview the day it was to happen and just before Sheree was getting ready to come and do whatever it was, we were going to substitute it with, she decided to face her fear and go through with it. We helped her out by not going live with the interview and only recording it while telling Hillary that we could stop and start back recording if we needed to. Deciding that I want to be sober and then not letting things get in the way. Deciding that i am going to start saving money and then doing it. Of course you wouldn't, there would be disease and a huge risk of death. Now consider drinking from a fast flowing stream in the mountains I bet you can envision and taste the water right now. In our recovery staying stagnant can lead to all kinds of problems. We talk about issues that we have faced and how we deal with them. We are a bunch of ex-addicts who have found freedom in our recovery.

On this episode of 4mics 13teeth 1anklemonitor Gary and Sheree talk about self-rejection. How many times have you sabotaged your own recovery? The feeling of self-worth overcomes you, so you end up rejecting yourself and that is on top of the rejection we feel from others. We cannot control others, but we can control our own rejection. Knowing that others have felt these same feelings can be the beginning of understanding that we are not who we use to be that we are moving forward acknowledging our past and moving forward at the same time. We hope this episode will help you as Gary and Sheree talk openly about their struggles and how they deal with them.

What in the world are Gary and Sheree talking about this week on 4mics 13teeth 1anklemonitor? One of the biggest hurdles in recovery is staying consistent in our structure. For someone first coming clean we (i) had huge problems being consistent in my daily life. While i was in addiction i pretty much did things when, how or whenever i wanted. So now trying to change my life i have found out that being consistent even in the small things like picking up my daughter every day from school, showing up to work every day or just being consistent in telling the truth when asked something these things paid huge dividends to myself worth. Now by stepping it up in such a way that even when something happens or gets in the way, or it seems to be a real struggle trying to be consistent then i am persistent about it. Things have come trying to knock me back down into addiction either by my own making or by circumstances that i cannot control however i am going to stay consistent in my persistence. At 4mics 13teeth 1anklemonitor we are not professional counselors (not hating just being honest). We are a group of people who have come out of addiction and are very vocal about telling others that there is hope.

On today's episode of 4mics 13teeth 1anklemonitor Gary and Greg talk about the importance of finding a mentor for three specific areas in our lives. The three areas being God, finances and family. I know personally how much this would have helped me early on in my recovery. Maybe you disagree and believe it should happen later in recovery. Maybe you disagree with the three areas that we picked out. However, we believe you will agree that all of us would benefit from finding someone who is successful in a certain area and learning from them. At 4mics 13teeth 1anklemonitor we are not trained counselors, in fact we have no degrees (not hating, just facts). We don't even have a mail in certificate. What we do have is uncontainable joy in our recovery and we will not be silent. We have found out that there is life after addiction and this life is more than we could ever imagine. If you are struggling,. please reach out to someone

There is a life after addiction! This life will amaze you at the difference that comes with sobriety.

Dealing with anger can be one of the biggest hurdles in our recovery. For men I personally know that anger has been one of the things that I deal with. We love to hold onto anger because it makes us feel good about ourselves. Alcohol and drugs use to be the cover where I looked like I was a calm nothing bothered me type guy. Underneath all that cool hand Luke exterior was a raging volcano ready to explode. Dealing with anger has helped me become a better person by taking my eyes off of everyone else and realizing that anger gets me nowhere. Join 4mics 13teeth and 1anklemonitor as Gary and Greg talk about the anger in their lives. We are not professionals with degrees or even an online certificate; were not hating we wish we had them, what we are is a group of ex-addicts that have are in recovery and are vocal about it. We hope you enjoy this episode.

You need to go to a meeting with me. I have got to go to a meeting today. Meetings will help you. Anyone in recovery has heard one or all of these sayings. In reality though why should you attend a meeting? Most of us will agree that a meeting will help but help you with what? Meetings can help with social skills, give you hope, encourage you, convict you, it can take you further than you can go on your own. Yes, we know that some can recover on their own without ever going to a meeting and we also know that some need to go to a rehab and we know that some can become addicted to meetings. We also know that meetings can help. At 4mics 13teeth 1anklemonitor we are a group of non-professional ex-addicts who are willing to talk about our struggles. Join Sheree and Greg as they talk about the positive and negative of meetings.

There comes a time in our lives when we honestly believe there is no hope either for us or the situation that we are facing. It may be finances, relationships, work, or a multitude of other things. The pain and depression become so real that we will try anything to numb ourselves. One of the big questions in early recovery is what do I or where do i place my hope? Join Gary and our pastor, Greg Morriss as they talk about their lives and where they placed their hope.

In this episode of 4mics 13teeth 1anklemonitor Gary, Dillon and our pastor, Greg Morris, talk about recognizing that we are powerless over not just our addictions but over many areas of our lives. The first step in recovery is admitting that we are powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become unmanageable. Powerless is not a word that many of us want to identify with, we see this as weakness. Admitting we are powerless takes us out of the fantasy life that many of us lived in and puts us into reality. Now we are ready to begin our new life

In this episode of 4mics 13teeth 1 anklemonitor Gary, Sheere and Dillon go deeper into denial. Alot of people including us thought that once we admitted to the fact that our addiction had consumed us that life would be ok. What we didn't know is that it was just the first step. This is where alot of people coming into recovery make their first mistake. Now we have done away with a part of our life that was a secret. Now not only working on addiction but working on our family life becomes crucial. Because if we will not work on our family life we will end back in addiction. Gary, Sheere and Dillon talk candidly about their life experiences and share some of the things that helped them

On this episode we start off with the basic need to come out of denial. Denying that we have a problem with drugs or any other substances. This is a huge issue for the majority of people caught up in addiction and that is coming to grips with the fact that we are totally addicted and our lives have become a wreck. This simple step of realizing the severity of the problem and wanting to seek help is the beginning.
