REFLECT: Maybe Christmas is not the most “peaceful” season for you. Perhaps because of current circumstances, painful memories connected to the holidays, or even just the state of the world today, you feel broken and hopeless--like everything is crashing down around you.

In the book of John, Jesus warns His disciples of coming persecution, hatred, and sorrow, yet follows His warning with an encouragement: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Jesus offers us peace; a peace that surpasses understanding and reaches far beyond our season or circumstances.

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, be reminded that Emmanuel, God With Us, has come to bring you peace.

RESPOND: Where do you need peace in your life? Not just a good feeling about something but a peace that surpasses all understanding? Spend time today asking God to grant you His peace in your life this Christmas season.
