As a writer, some of the hardest words to craft are the ones that start or end a piece of composition. Yet as readers, if we're truly honest, often times we skip the greetings and salutations because we believe they are there simply for perfunctory reasons. When we do that, we can miss really important things. The same can be said when we approach the Epistles (letters) in the New Testament. If we truly believe that all Scripture is breathed out by God and is profitable to us (2 Tim. 3:16-17), then even these seeming "insignificant remarks" can make a transformational impact on our view of the rest of the letter, God, and ourselves. In these two short and simple verses, much can be learned about Paul's view of these fellow believers and what he wishes for them.
