Is speaking in tongues the evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit? Can everyone speak in tongues? In this final session, we will take some time to answer these questions and give a summary of what we have learned in this study.
Christianity does not belong exclusively to the living, but it is the shared faith of all who have confessed Christ through the centuries. In this session, we will learn how the church has viewed the topic of speaking in tongues from 130 A.D. to the present. We'll hear from people like Irenaeus, Origen, St. Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Vincent Ferrer and Charles Parham on how they understood and taught about speaking in tongues.
What are we talking about when we talk about speaking in tongues? It's not as straightforward as one might things. When we read what the Bible says about speaking in tongues, it appears that it could mean three different things, and we'll talk about all three in this session. As well we'll discover that some Biblical texts are simply descriptions of what happened, and others are meant to teach us about Christian doctrine
This session is as straightforward as it sounds. We will read every verse about speaking in tongues in the Bible. Spoiler Alert. There are not as many as you might think.
Speaking in tongues is highlighted in the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost and taught by Paul in 1 Corinthians, and 2000 years later, we still have many questions about this spiritual gift.
