ABOUT THE BOOK - PURELAND

In the fictional story of Dr. Abdus Salam, Nobel prize winning physicist excommunicated by his country of birth who spent his adult life in exile, Salam's achievements in science were eradicated from Pakistan's history. Pureland is the retelling of Salam's story through magical realism. An assassin, accused of heinous acts, narrates. He claims responsibility for the murder of Nobel Prize winner, Salim Agha. He begins by explaining Salim's relationship with his beloved nation, Pureland. Rife with mysticism, Salim's life commences with a spiritual prophecy: Salim is destined for greatness but, born into poverty, the prophecy begins to fade. But General Khan sees something special in Salim who falls in love with Khan’s daughter, Laila, who becomes his muse and his curse. A love so powerful that he vows to do anything to win her heart, Laila becomes the embodiment of everything he is destined for. But things go terribly wrong. Inspired by true events of Pakistan’s only Nobel Prize winning physicist, Pureland is a tour-de-force debut about a nation that has lost its way, its people who suffer from unspeakable tyranny, and a remorseful hero whose legacy has been wiped out by hatred.
