If I have learned anything in my walk with Jesus Christ (and I am still learning!!!) is how important it is to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. It is impossible to fit the work of the Spirit into our little “how to” boxes. “One size fits all” methods of evangelism is not found in Scripture, nor does it work in real life, real time Christian living. Now the gospel message itself never changes, but even a casual look at Scripture clearly shows that God uses different ways to minister to different people at different times. He uses different passages of Scripture to minister to different people.

When the apostles went into the synagogues, they reasoned with the Jews and religious proselytes from the Scriptures, because they knew that they were familiar with the Scriptures. But when they went into pagan areas, they would talk about the Living God and Creator. When they went to Athens, they met with people in the market places, and engaged with them about philosophy and even drew their attention to their altar that was erected to the Unknown God. Now in every different scenario, they would “find a way” to bring the subject of the conversation to the gospel of salvation by the grace of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, but the point that I am making here is how important it is to be sensitive to people where they are at, and begin ministering to them there.

We see this in our study today, and it is a pattern that is consistent throughout the Scriptures. We also see that signs and wonders do not save people. In spite of undeniable miracles, many of the people rejected the gospel and persecuted those who preach it. At times they stayed and witnessed in spite of the opposition. At other times, they were either expelled or went into another area. And the same is true today. Like Paul and Barnabas declared, we are people of like passions. Imperfect people like you and I are called upon to be a witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. And like the apostles, the “success rate” of evangelism percentage wise is not that high.

So do not despair my dear brothers and sisters in Christ. Keep praying. Keep sharing. Keep open to how the Lord may want you to get out of your “one size fits all” way of witnessing. And never get discouraged or “throw in the proverbial towel of sharing Christ” because people just do not want to hear it. “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor 15:58).
