Now, let's get into the Word Of God
In today’s Bible Study, we are going to study:
Nicholas the Deacon
Etymology of the name Nicholas
( victor of the people )
Smith's Bible Dictionary
Nicolas
(Acts 6:5) a native of Antioch and a proselyte to the Jewish faith.
When the church was still confined to Jerusalem, he became a convert and being a man of honest report full of the Holy Ghost and of wisdom, he was chosen by the whole multitude of the disciples to be one of the first seven deacons, and was ordained by the apostles.
Revelation 2:6 (NIV)6 But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.Revelation 2:15 (NIV)15 Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. There is no reason except the simplicity of name for identifying Nicolas with the sect of Nicolaitans which our Lord denounces, for the traditions on the subject are of no value.
Acts 6:1-7 (NIV)
The Choosing of the Seven6 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom.4 We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”5 This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip,Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith. There’s no other credible evidence, as to the ministerial resume of Nicholas, that I could find.
