The pinta giant tortoise has the saddest history of any animal we have covered in this episode. First discovered in 1877 they were brought to ecological extinction by the turn of the 20th century. Meaning in 23 years they were wiped out from their natural environments and only the ones captured were left in the world. The last of the Pinta tortoises known as lonesome George died in 2012. This means from start to finish humans completely wiped out the Pinta tortoise in 135 years.
