Romans 2:21-23 You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that one shall not steal, do you steal? You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? You who boast in the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonor God?Do we always do what is right? Unfortunately, we do not. We are all sinners. We are not sinners because we sin. We sin because we are sinners. We may know that God is love, but do we always love? Again, unfortunately, we all too often fall short of His glory and bring dishonor to God. We should be able to relate to the Jews in Rome to whom Paul wrote. There is an encouragement to be found here. The fact that even though we know what is right, we still are sinners, should convince us that God doesn’t want or intend for us to live for Him. The gospel isn’t about what we can do for God. The gospel is about what He does for us. We need Him to live for us, to live through us, to satisfy the righteous demands of the Law for us. God gave Jesus to us for the purpose of glorifying or honoring God in and through us. His life becomes our life. His love is our love. His righteousness is our righteousness. Our message isn’t to call others to keep God’s Law and do what pleases Him so He will accept you. Rather, our message is that God gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place so that for all who believe in Him, their sins may be forgiven and removed. Then we may be united with Him so He can live His life of love in and through us for the glory of God. That’s why we live to love with Jesus.
