Adopted at birth into a beautiful Tongan family, Ema Tuakoi is of Māori, Tongan and Lebanese descent. She is currently completing her Bachelor of Science in Psychology but envisions herself completing her post-grad back on the whenua that gave her life. She has faced many forms of racism on different levels throughout her life, that has affected her mentally. Ema’s dream is to give back to her people helping the rangatahi who struggle with mental health. In this episode, Ema talks about visiting her marae for the first time, the struggles she has faced and her journey of becoming 100% unapologetically Māori.
