“In some ways suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning, such as the meaning of a sacrifice.” Viktor Frankl

In today's episode, we'll dive into Post Traumatic Growth, particularly from the viewpoint of growing through grief.

"PTG is a theory that explains this kind of transformation following trauma. It was developed by psychologists Richard Tedeschi, Ph.D., and Lawrence Calhoun, Ph.D., in the mid-1990s, and holds that people who endure mental struggle following adversity can often see positive growth afterward."

During times of stress, crisis, or trauma, individuals often question the benefits that can arise from hardships. 2020 was marked by a pandemic that led to numerous fatalities, job losses, rising divorce rates, and a global economic decline. This has caused many to question their fundamental beliefs, personal identity, and spirituality, as the future remains uncertain.

Traumatic events must be significant enough to force individuals to reassess their representations of themselves and others, their world, and what the future may bring. It has been discovered that negative experiences can bring about positive transformations. However, it may take some time before the benefits of life's challenges become apparent, as growth and development often require effort and perseverance.

Trauma can help forge new relationships and make people more grateful for the ones they already have. Coming through a crisis together is a bonding experience.
