Given many of the toxic interactions we have in our society today, I thought it might be useful to get a better understanding of what the purpose of government is and what "rights" are. Many of the cultural wars nowadays seem to revolve around those concepts and, it seems to me, much of the heat and angry rhetoric can be attributed to the idea that we're not on the same page with regard to these things.
