Double Up, a capital campaign, in 2017 was the Vision to “Double the Reach/Double the Growth.” We wanted to double the reach by having double the amount of room in River Valley. We did this by building 2 campuses (new River Valley Worship Center & God of Mercy Baptist Church in Leon, Nicaragua). We also wanted to double the growth by doubling the amount of giving and doubling the personal, spiritual growth in the River Valley family.

Relationship is more important than rules. That isn't to say that rules are unimportant or unnecessary. Rules and boundaries are something that we need. Jews would normally insist on avoiding the road to Samaria. But in John 4:1-43, Jesus insisted on traveling through Samaria, on his way to Galilee. James is likely writing to an audience of Jewish believers in James 1:19-27 that had a strong, moral upbringing but struggled to love their neighbors. It was easy for these believers to look down on their Gentile neighbors and point out the sins of the people that were different than them. James challenges these Jewish believers (and us) to look at our own sins instead (sins like anger and pride) and to confront those sins.

The parable of the Good Samaritan is a teaching by Jesus, found in the gospel of Luke 10:25-37. Although Samaritans and Jews despised each other, this Samaritan took time, met the physical needs of the Jewish man, and shared the love of Jesus with him.

Paul is encouraging the Gentiles to remember their past, emphasizing their new identity in Christ, and calling them toward their destiny. He calls them to a life of reconciliation with God and with the Jews. He reminds them (and reminds us all) of our identity in Christ because of who Christ is.
