In today's episode we discuss the many roles the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) has!

It is associated with many higher cognitive functions such as decision-making, value of choice, inference of patterns and incomplete information. Most interestingly the ACC plays a role in detecting changes in environment and prediction errors. This is explored by Nicholas Cole in behavioural and calcium-imaging read-out experiments. They looked at whether prediction error was happening in the ACC when mice switched tasks and if they were able to adapt to a new task/environment in their paper, "Prediction error signals in anterior cingulate cortex drive task-switching".
