It is hard to ignore how well the universe works. Gravitational Force. Electromagnetic force. Nuclear force. Speed of Light. How well the earth supports life. Our location within the Milky Way galaxy. Our position within the solar system. The availability and polarity of water. The presence of Jupiter and Saturn diverts dangerous large comets and asteroids from hitting the earth. The placement of the earth’s moon, with its specific size and rotational properties. Stable plate tectonics on Earth. The list goes on and on. Our universe is stable, our solar system and the planet Earth are finely tuned to support life.

Let’s not pretend that our existence is anything but a miracle. If any one of these variables were even minutely different, life-sustaining earth could not exist. The sun could not hold itself together. Planets could not remain in orbit. Our molecules would be unstable. Any individual variation of the parameters needed for life would mean that we are impossible. Wow! It’s amazing how perfect everything is. All this perfection seems like strong evidence for a Creator. In my mind, the very presence of order is the strongest proof for an organizer. You can trust me on this point. My wife has a tenth-degree black belt in organizing. I have a lot of experience with this phenomenon.

Think of our DNA. Its complexity is so great that a Creator’s fingerprints are literally in every cell of our bodies. Okay, fine. Except for red blood cells, which eject their nuclei at maturity to make room for more hemoglobin and to allow them to be small enough to flow through the smallest capillaries. Anyone who preaches that this complexity could have occurred on its own has to ignore a lot of inconvenient math.

And yet…our culture has elevated the theory of evolution to the level of inerrant scientific dogma. When people use the words “The Science” as definitive proof of something, it is safe to insert the phrase “religious dogma” for science. They are talking about something far different than the scientific process. Their calculations of probabilities take for granted that the evolution from chaos into order is possible and known. The truth is that anything that happened in the past is not observable. It’s not testable. Once you get far enough back in time, let’s say six thousand years, the surviving archeological evidence and artifacts drop off so precipitously that scientists are soon dealing with total extrapolation. Let’s not allow scientists to convince us that their models and theories about the distant past are anything more concrete than conjecture.

Evolution is a pillar of the modern secular faith system. Its advocates say it is built on sound scientific principles, but where the evidence is lacking storytelling and fairy tales have filled in the gaps. This religious dogma is preached by intelligent scientists and school teachers, instead of pastors and priests, but don’t let that fool you. Evolution is a belief system about the unobservable past and cannot be proven. It must be accepted by faith.
