My biggest regret when it comes to my career? Not asking for help sooner! I was embarrassed - everyone seemed to “get it” but me. The truth? We are all figuring it out as we go! We are ALL (hopefully!) still learning every day. In this episode we dove into all things business from bringing on investors and bootstrapping to how Coffee With Kim began and my thoughts on embracing cringe. I share how I incorporate learning into my life as an entrepreneur and how I outsource to free up time. I even got a bit spicy about my thoughts on AI lately and how to make sure mentors are right for you. This space is all about learning and growing together so if any questions come to mind while you’re listening shoot them over to hello@kimkaupe.com and I will be sure to set some time aside to answer them (yes, even if you think they’re silly)!

This time of year can be a great time to update your LinkedIn profile. But where do you start? In this mini-workshop I’m sharing the secrets to creating a LinkedIn profile that stands out, a few hacks I’ve learned about the algorithm and how to craft your about section in a way people will find and read it! Have you ever been so excited about an upcoming event or project? Maybe it’s Thanksgiving with the family or a new initiative at work. You burst into the room with this game changing idea and… you’re met with a less than enthusiastic team. How do you get everyone on board? How do you make sure you’re reading the room properly before diving right in to pitching your idea? Deirdre’s been helping teams communicate, connect and most importantly engage for 30+ years. She joined the Coffee With Kim crew to share her tried and true FEEL model, how to involve the naysayers (spoiler alert: pushing them out is the WORST idea), and what nonverbals to look for before pitching your big idea. If you’re looking for a way to pep up your team or communicate better with your boss this is the conversation for you.

Your biggest mistake at work? Assuming everyone knows what work you’re doing and how well you’re doing it. Good news? If you’re mediocre at your job, no one knows. Bad news? If you’re REALLY good at your job, chances are no one knows.
If you make it look easy and give credit to the team you might not be standing out to your boss. One of my favorite questions from Tiffany, “If you removed yourself from the project or situation how would it have worked?” A powerful question for anyone at the workplace!
Tiffany divulges some of the biggest mistakes she sees when advocating for yourself at work, tips for building relationships with senior leaders in your organization and how to boost your confidence if you fell short in some way this year. This episode was packed to the brim with scripts to use at work and how to start advocating for yourself in a way that doesn’t feel awkward.

In this episode Stacey breaks down the distinction between bias and discrimination, highlighting the need for awareness and action to combat both. Stacey A. Gordon is a rockstar when it comes to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and encourages organizations to “Rework Work” and move toward inclusive and enjoyable workplaces. Her LinkedIn Learning course Unconscious Bias has been a huge success and her weekly newsletter Lead With Inclusion offers nuggets of wisdom in every article. Stacey emphasizes the importance of finding the right company fit, urging us to clarify our life goals before choosing an employer, and reminding us that financial stability shouldn't be compromised. We all want to work with people we like, but don’t make the mistake of choosing hires solely because you vibe with them. (I’m totally guilty of this!) In this Coffee talk we learned there’s four main parts to successful hiring – systems, metrics, clear communication and time. Tianna Tye is an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist and team dynamics guru who coaches leaders. Say that 3 times fast, ha! In layman’s terms, she uses her knowledge of human behavior to help create awesome work environments. Here she’s sharing details on how to fine tune your methods, build and maintain an ideal work environment, and reach your company goals. Be sure to let me know what you think!

This week's episode I’m bringing back one of my favorite coffee sessions with one of my favorite guests, Amberly Lago. This episode originally aired the end of 2021 but I feel it’s just as relevant (if not more!) as we navigate the final stretch of 2023. If you’re looking for that extra push to achieve your goals this year, this is the episode for you. After surviving a life-altering motorcycle accident, Amberly's story is a testament to resilience, motivation, and driving results to make your dream life a reality. In our conversation, she shares her personal keys to resilience, the importance of wise counsel over mere opinions, and knowing when to persevere versus granting yourself grace to let things go. We delve into celebrating small victories, building a following on social media from scratch, and recognizing the need for grit and grace in entrepreneurship and in life. This episode was filled with insights and actionable tips to help navigate both business and life’s inevitable challenges.

The truth is no one is an “expert” when it comes to AI. At least not yet. But some people, like Martin Waxman, have dove head first into the deep end of Artificial Intelligence and they’re learning as fast as they can so we can copy their homework. In this discussion Martin shared with us the steps he takes to implement new tools in digital marketing, what big mistakes to avoid and we got creative about what we think the future of AI might look like. (it has something to do with cookbooks and magic!) He shared TONS of resources that we’ll link here. Resilience requires self-advocacy. In this episode our guest Tatiana Kolovou, teaches us how to be our own advocates, master the art of “learned optimism” and how to practice rejection. (because that’s key to being resilient!) She shared tips for us to identify our own strengths and how to say no when opportunities don’t align. As our resilience is constantly being tested these reminders were just what I needed! Be sure to step outside your comfort zone this week and remember rejection is just part of the process.

One of the best things I did for my career was defining what mentors I need, want and have. From this came my “4 Mentor Method” that’s been featured in Forbes, Inc Magazine and of course on LinkedIn. In this mini-workshop, I break down what a mentor actually is, how to find mentors for each category, and most importantly how to utilize their knowledge and your relationship as you learn and grow in your career. I share the biggest mistake I see when it comes to mentorship (hint: what’s the difference between a mentor and an advocate?) and share a handy dandy list to help you brainstorm names for each of the 4 types. You can see all written notes here on my website if you’re more of a visual person like me. Whether you’re a new graduate, a leader looking to level up or a fresh face in your industry, this session is for you!

Does saying “no” make your heart race? Does receiving a “no” after a big ask feel like a gut punch? Darrah shared her story about receiving a rejection from Brene Brown and how it completely shifted her relationship with the word “no.” Having started four businesses Darrah Brustein knows firsthand what it means to align and realign your goals and values. She joined the Coffee With Kim crew live late last year but the conversation was so good I thought we could use a few of her reminders as we head into Q3. My favorite advice she shared? Three questions to ask yourself before saying yes to an opportunity. I’ve used it so many times since! If you’re struggling to say “yes” wholeheartedly or “no” when it’s necessary, this episode is for you. Shoot me a message on Instagram or LinkedIn if it shifts your world the way it did mine!

As a leader the balance between being liked and being respected is blurred? Do I get down in the trenches with my team (so they will like me) or do I forge a path for us solo (potentially alienating others). In this conversation with former green beret Jan Rutherford we discussed the importance of trust, communication, and creating a culture of accountability within a team. Jan highlighted the significance of self-awareness, adaptability, and taking calculated risks as a leader. Hint: It means forgoing your eager to be well liked with taking the harder road of leading solo for your team. This discussion is full of actionable tips for becoming a more effective leader and helping your team thrive. Take a listen and let me know what you think!

Have you had an experience where a company’s values (ex. friendly, fast customer service) don’t match your experience (slow, unhelpful customer service agent)? Simply having a value (ex. great customer service) doesn’t mean that’s what happens every day at an organization. Great organizations succeed based on what they think, do and say. From the receptionist at the front desk to the CEO, how do you make sure your team is living out your company’s values? Ron Tite and I sat down to discuss how to build trust in a world that’s full of uncertainty and broken promises.
