Pope Pius XII instituted the feast of the Holy Face to be on Shrove Tuesday. This is a great devotion to make reparation against the blasphemies and the profanation of Sundays, as well as to oppose the words of humanistic revolutionaries. Pope Pius IX said "This salutary reparation to the Holy Face of Jesus is a divine work, destined to save modern society."
