New Zealand isn’t the first country in the world to consider giving 16 and 17-year-olds the right to vote.

Other countries have already made the change, Austria lowered their voting age to 16 in 2007 and in Scotland 16 year olds were given the right to vote in 2015 for their parliament and local elections.

Former chair of Scotland's youth parliament, Kyle Thornton, spoke to Tova O'Brien on Tuesday morning and said changing the age is a good way of keeping young people engaged in politics.
