A new study is suggesting early humans and other great apes once shared a sign language.

More than 5000 people were shown videos of chimpanzees doing their most commonly used gestures, and more often than not the participants knew what they meant.

Researchers believe the movements could form part of an early vocab across all ape species including us - and it may have been the starting point for our own language.
