Most of the bad weather has passed for the South Island, but now the clean up has begun for those in Nelson. 

A community meeting was held where desperate residents who had been evacuated, or whose homes had been affected, made pleas to Civil Defence and politicians for help.

Nelson mayor Rachel Reese was there and she joins us now.
