Armed with good form and a relaxed attitude, Hamish Kerr soared away through his final yesterday to become the first Kiwi male high jumper to win Commonwealth Games gold.

The Christchurch-based Kerr ended up in a head-to-head battle with Australian Brandon Starc, the 2018 gold medal winner - and when he finally clinched the win he said he was ‘stoked’.
