China signing a security pact with the Solomon Islands which gives the Chinese mega-military an in to potentially set up a base in the Pacific.

The failure to see the deal coming or prevent it, prompted the Australian Labour Party to  call it “the worst Australian foreign policy blunder in the Pacific since the end of World War Two”.

If that’s the case - New Zealand would share the blame, it was our government’s failing too
