In what has been one of the more public disputes in recent years firefighters have, in the last 24 hours, agreed to suspend any further strike action.

They will now enter into facilitated mediation for better pay and conditions.

In a joint statement Jan Tinetti, the Minister of Internal Affairs, said she had brought the two parties, Fire and Emergency NZ and the New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union, together to discuss a way forward in the collective bargaining dispute.
