1. St. Louis archdiocese opting out of the school Lunch program

“As with any federal subsidy, schools that participate in these programs are subject to a wide variety of federal mandates, which could ultimately impact decisions concerning admissions, extracurricular activities, facilities, and logistics. In some circumstances, these mandates would impede a school’s ability to faithfully carry out the teachings of the Catholic Church. For this reason, the Archdiocese of St. Louis has decided not to participate in these programs.”

1. Ballwin set to close the books on Olde Towne Plaza TIF. After 23 years, the obligations of the city with respect to the TIF-generated bonds terminate whether or not the principal amount of the bonds, or the interest thereon, has been paid in full. Revenues from sales taxes, pilots and city contributions generated prior to Oct. 10 will continue to be allocated by the TIF District through May 2023.

New laws that went into effect on Sunday – August 28. How do they affect Missourians?

· Privacy Protection Act – OA Closing of state records

o Last Monday, the Office of Administration (OA) removed from its website all state contracts available to the public. Based on “Privacy Protection,” OA states that in order to review state contracts you must now make a formal sunshine request.

o OA website predicts this will be a long turnaround time

· New Missouri law bans ‘sexually explicit’ books from schools –

o Why would there be any controversy over this?

· Voter ID law

o “If you’re register – you can vote on election day”

o First test - Election Day is coming up in St. Louis – September 13 – people are already voting in that election.
